Regarding the high beam cancel distance, I don't think anyone out there driving is measuring distances in their heads. It's best to just bring them down the moment you see the headlights of oncoming traffic. I've found that when I do, 9 times outta 10 the other driver will go ahead and cancel theirs as well. Less blind time for everybody XD
@michaelhoward142
@michaelhoward142 5 ай бұрын
I think laws using distances are very unrealistic and pointless. Who thinks in terms of precise distances while driving? Example: turn signals. I activate my signals as I approach the turn as early as possible WITHOUT causing confusion. If there's another side street or road before I get to my turn, I wait until I pass it and THEN signal, so no one thinks I'm turning there. I just try to use common sense no matter what the "legal" distance is.

Singapore is crazy expensive to own a car - and I think you have to put your name on a wait list just in order to hope to buy a car and pay that crazy fee! @@stephen3164 The driving exams aren't that strict. I mean there's a catalogue of questions you have to study and you have to be able to parallel park somewhat competently. But I've never heard of anyone failing the exam unless they didn't study at all. A friend of mine back in the day got his license but after a couple of months he stopped driving because all his friends told him they wouldn't drive with him anymore. The reason for the specific number on the fine for hooning in Australia is because fines are defined by penalty units, which also define a certain amount of time in jail. Also on repeat offenses of the hooning laws, the car you get caught in gets impounded and destroyed (unless it's stolen).

not the worst idea tbf... but given how vehicles are being locked down by OEMs, the odds of you needing to pop the hood to fix something becomes less and less likely. I am from Germany and the only thing they might ask you in the test is where you can refill the windshield washer fluid XD. But we had some basic mechanics in the lessons for the theoretical test. One reason why the driving license is so expensive in Germany is btw. because we don’t make our theoretical test and afterwards our parents teach us the practical part. In Germany after you passed your theoretical test you are only allowed to drive on the road with a driving teacher sitting next to you. You need a minimum of for example 5h highway driving, 5h country roads, 3h night drive and 6h driving in the city and afterwards the practical test. But once you have passed you practical test you can drive just like anyone else. You don’t have restrictions like “only driving at daylight” or “only with one other person in the car”. The only exception is when you get the driving license when you are 17. Then for example one of your parents need to sit next to you but otherwise there is no restriction at all compared to driving with 18.
@LegendStormcrow
@LegendStormcrow 6 ай бұрын
Our restrictions like the ones you noted are generally for under age drivers. You do have us beat on number of hours driven before you get a license though, and the mechanical end of the tests. We only have to check the mechanical part for Commercial Drivers Licenses. Those hours you drive beforehand is comparable to a long way trip thru Texas.

This was in Texas, not California, but on one rural road in the 1970s, I came up behind a long line of cars doing about 50. So I pulled out and started passing. About five or six cars into the pass, I saw that the lead car was a state trooper. So I kept passing and after passing continued along while nervously looking in my mirror to see if he was going to pull me over for making an illegal pass. (Is it legal to pass ten or twelve cars at one time?) What I actually saw was incredible. When the cars behind the state trooper saw that he wasn't going to pull me over, they all pulled over at the same time and passed the state trooper. It was beautiful.

On another occasion, years later, I had a police radar unit in my car from an R&D project. I was driving at the speed limit to another city about 100 miles from where I lived that Saturday morning when I noticed that in the motor home behind me, a passenger was staring at me very intently. I then noticed in the side mirror that there were a lot of cars behind me. We were on a divided highway with two lanes in each direction and so there was no reason for them not to pass me, but nobody was. That puzzled me for at first but then I remembered the police radar. Sure enough, I had left it on. Within a minute after I reached over and turned it off, car after car was passing me -- every car but that motor home. They stayed right behind me until we came to a fork in the road when they took the road going west while I stayed on the road going north.

There were two or three cars stopped behind him and a clear lane to his right. As I was approaching in that right lane, he waved a woman facing him, attempting a left across our lanes, to go just as I was passing them. We contacted her front bumper and were spun around. Major damage to my wife's car and the car attempting to turn. The wrecker operator drove away, leaving the other driver solely responsible for the collision.

Fun fact. In Brazil our driver’s license takes 40 hours of classes including a theoretical course of 20 hours and a practical course of also 20 (that is if you are getting your license for cars only) as well as two tests, one for each course. Some other curious or different things are that in the theoretical course we are taught first aid principles, maintenance principles, some things not to modify in our cars, and hierarchy of roads in the road network, as for the practical course we take it all in manual transmission cars (except when you have a hard to get waiver only given to disabled people that usually involves an obligation to later modify your personal car to fit your disability). Also our licenses from the day they are emitted they grant you full permission to drive wherever whenever without any supervision. It costs around R$2000,00 (in São Paulo) which is the equivalent of roughly usd 400,00 not including the quasi institution that is the “quebra” basically a bribe that in some test sites is mandatory for you to get approved, that ranges from BRL 500,00 to BRL 1000,00 (USD 100,00 - 200,00).

You need to do a series where winning gives you a budget for part of your car build. Kind of like high car, low car but the value of the parts your team gets is how you do on the questions. One round a team might get a higher budget for brake parts cause they did good on the quiz but the next round they might lose and get a cheaper suspension budget. Each round is a different part of the car just like high car, low car.

I have never had a speeding ticket in oklahoma anywhere near $20. The 2 I have had were $150+ each. However the dumbest ticket I ever got was in like 2011 I was taking someone to the DHS office where they literally had a parking lot full of handicap spots near the front of the building. I was in the back corner of the EMPTY lot with my car in neutral waiting on the guy I gave a ride to come out. From this spot I could see both doors and the normal parking lot was completely full. Eventually the "cop" that ran the metal detector came out, got in his car and pulled up next to me and asked what I was doing. I explained and put my car back in drive. He told me to put it in park and get in his car. Which was weird but it was technically entrapment since I wasn't parked before. So I get a $350 ticket. I dont argue, I am relatively nice but inside I am angry. The first thing I do when I get home is call a family friend who is an attorney who tells me what the cop did was entrapment but since I have no evidence its not worth fighting, but I should look at ADA (americans with disabilities act) rules and see if the spots were properly marked as handicap spots. Fun fact: Handicap spots dont have to have the painted thing on the ground but they have to have a sign that is posted 5-6 feet in the air, but they do have to have a 3 foot cross hatched painted spot between 2 spots so people can open their doors and what not, they also can't have manhole covers or cracks, they also can't be sloped more than 3 degrees. This parking lot had 0 signs in the air, it had a 10 degree slope, the spot I was "parked" (standing) in had a manhole cover and cracks all over. So I take photos of this and print out the ADA (americans with disabilities act) rules and head to the ADA (assistant district attorney) office, confusing since they are both ADA, Once I get to the guy with my ticket and all my paper work he is confused and slightly agitated. He says "I can't just drop this ticket" I tell him my attorney is on the way if he wants to wait (I thought this was a total lie on my part) he then says "what I can do is you take a defensive driving test but not for the state, take it for insurance but show us you took it and everything is dropped." I agree and leave the building. As I am walking out my attorney crosses the road. I could have had it completely dropped but I took the $60 class and got cheaper insurance. I also met a girl there I later dated. And thats a whole other can of worms. But in the end turned out she was married. A couple weeks after the court stuff I had to go back to the DHS office so my friend could get their food stamps or whatever it was they were doing. This time I decided to go in, the same cop was there running the metal detector and was staring hard as I waited in line. As I went through the metal detector I asked if he heard the news about his parking lot. Brother said nothing just kept on staring. Turns out my actions got A LOT of tickets dropped, eventually the parking lot was redone, and then a couple years later they moved out of that building. TL;DR Cops sucks, check your laws/rights before paying tickets. Oh also to be clear here I am not normally a person who parks in handicap spots. But this was a lot with like 40 spots and maybe 3 cars in it and I was ready to move if anything happened and that spot was suddenly needed.

Private roads aren't state or federal roads and don't have state/federally enforceable speed limits. It's like driving on a race track... You exceed the speed limit they can trespass you, you could get reckless endangerment charges, or some other variant but not a speeding ticket. There are also many areas with 'end of speed zone' limited by state law rather than a posted speed limit, much easier than posting new speed limits every time the laws adjust.

The thing about that speed limit being so low isn't anything special. Japanese highways are often 100 kmh only. It's mostly due to kei cars being both slow and only typically having like 155 tires. Kei cars with 660 cc engines also rev high and more or less are enclosed motorcycles. Also Japanese population is old AF and they have reactions of mummies.

I'm from Germany and I'm not surprised that our country has the most expensive driver's license fees. Aquiring the most common license for cars usually takes between 3-5 months depending on your progression. Costs depend mainly on how many hours of theoretical and practical lessons you need. For the theoretical part, at least 12 lessons of 2 hours each are required (24 in total) with an exam at the end which grants you the ability to take actual driving lessons. These consist of 5x 45 minutes on land or federal roads, 4x 45 minutes on the Autobahn, 3x 45 minutes in the dark plus however many hours your driving teacher might think you need on top of that, depending on how far advanced your are as a driving student. Costs for lessons vary between the different driving schools, with the big ones that you'll mostly find in cities usually being the most expensive. When your teacher thinks that you're ready, you can take the practical exam where your teacher and an inspector from the Association for Technical Inspection (TÜV) will test your driving skills on the road in bright daylight. Pass this and you'll get your license. If you fail (wether theor. or prac.), you have 2 more attempts until you have to start from the beginning. Oh and the exams can also cost somewhere between 90-300 € iirc. Funny enough, this license is only for normal cars that weigh up to 3,5 tons. There are separate licenses for bikes, bigger vehicles up to 7,5 tons, trucks, busses and agricultural vehicles. Most of these are also split into different groups of their own, while the ability to tow trailers up from a certain weight demand other licenses appendixes as well. I think the most expensive license right now would be "CE" which is for trucks with max. 40 tons in total mass +trailers, these licenses can cost up to 8,000 € and more. Yes, these licenses are really expensive, but there are reasons for that. You'll learn everything important about road laws, technical backgrounds of your vehicle, road safety & accident prevention and much much more. But you'll be rewarded with a license that is valid in the whole EU plus non-EU european countries like Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It's also valid in most countries outside of the EU as long as you carry an international license alongside which you can acquire for 15-20 €.

I once got pulled over for doing 80 on a stretch of Louisiana highway that was technically limited to 50 - The law is that anything 25 over the posted limit is reckless driving, potentially a felony but probably a misdemeanor in my case. Cop wrote me at 74 and told me that he didn't want me to have it on my record, because he knew the limit signage was bad and that the speed fluctuates unfairly.

Additionally, always show up to court for your speeding ticket(s). Most judges will reduce the fine and you can also ask to take a driving course instead. If you opt for the driving course a lot of judges will drop the infraction completely. This avoids the ding on your driving record and will keep your insurance rate from going up. Just showing up and asking if they can reduce the ticket has saved me nearly 50% on all my speeding tickets. A lot of courts allow the clerk to do it so you can just plead guilty and avoid having to talk to a judge.

Attorney here! I know why it's legal to shoot a whale from your car! The actual law simply makes it illegal to hunt wild game of any sort from a moving vehicle of any kind (boat, train, car, helicopter, etc.), but whaling cannot possibly be done from a stationary vessel, so it's granted an explicit exception to that rule, meaning it IS lawful to engage in whaling (assuming the whaling itself is done lawfully) from a moving vehicle of any kind. Also, the reason why Australian fines are such specific numbers is because they are indexed to inflation by default. So when the law was first passed, it might have being 5,000 AU$, but now it's some oddly specific number that's higher than that.

That isn't correct. First, as a long haul trucker, you should know that trucks have always been limited to 65 mph in Montana, even before the national speed limit was enacted in 1974. For passenger vehicles, after the 55 mph national speed limit was rescinded, Montana did go back to having no posted speed limit on some roads and highways during daylight hours, however, they ended this practice four years later, in 1999. Anywhere that purports to have no speed limit in Montana is breaking state law that set rural speed limits at 65 mph.

The morbid joke goes, what do you buy a kid on his last birthday? a motorcycle... The government has tried countless approaches to improve this, including the morgue community service mentioned in this video, but it barely makes a dent. Since a few years there's zero-tolerance on blood alcohol levels, with a ~US$500 fine to pay on the spot and loss of license. But still, nothing changes... Here's one from Washington (the Evergreen State, not the Dark Carnival): a red right _arrow_ signal (as opposed to a red circle) is an implicit no-turn-on-red sign. You cannot turn right on a red arrow, without exception. And apparently _literally nobody, not even the cops nor the WSDOT employees putting up road signage,_ seem to know this. I've been honked at (including by a cop who did not have their flashing lights on so not an emergency, but likely entrapment to try to trick me into breaking the law) for refusing to right-on-red-arrow quite a few times, and there's a sign at an intersection in Bellevue saying you "can" right-on-red-arrow after a full stop (road signs do not overrule state law).

If anyone else is annoyed by his harassment, I urge you to dislike his comment and go to his channel and dislike his videos as well. Maybe if he suffers the same type of harassment he'll stop. Maybe.

10:38 Australia has some really expensive fines for a lot of things in general, in QLD at least, even not wearing your seatbelt correctly is a $1161 AUD fine. Also, another thing I’ve heard of, but not sure how common it is, is that if you’re a repeat ‘hoon’ your car can/will be taken by law enforcement/ government (I’m not sure which) and be crushed.

Crushing the car sounds a little wasteful, here if the state seizes a car they just sell it at auction.
