The motorways are mostly private, with road tolls. We don't use them for local travel, and many transport companies don't use them at all. Consequently many villages have huge trucks pounding through them

EV's are not the future and the list of drawbacks ; 1) They are too expensive to buy. 2) Depreciate quicker than a sink draining. £30,000pa in the case of a Porsche Taycan 3) Spare parts are hard to get. 4) Spare parts are too expensive. 5) Insurance is high or difficult to get. 6) Tyres wear out faster cos of cars weight. 7) Road tax will go up because the weight of the car cause damage to road surfaces. 8) Services (inspections really) are a Rip off. £750 to look under the car & report the your tyres are wearing down. 9) Software takes control, out of owners hands. 10) Difficulties in cold weather, heating reduces range, batteries won't charge or if they do it can damage them. 11) New battery costs more than cars value. 12) Charging eats your time on longer journeys and they are not always on your route so extra distance is added to trips. 13) Charging costs are increasing road side. 14) Finding a charge point (or one that works) away from home is almost impossible. 15) When you do find a charger there will nearly always be a queue. 16) Charge points to require an app & mobile phone data connection, a signal etc., 17) No resale value, cos batteries only last 3-4yrs. ‌18) Mechanics can't or won't work on them. ‌19) Domestic smart meters control what time of day you can charge up & what cost that will be. ‌20) The price of electricity is going to out strip the cost of other fuels per trip, especially during the day. ‌21) If there is more than one car in a family accessing the home charger has to be rationed ‌22) Having to buy a home charger in the first place. Domestic chargers break down, costly to repair or replace ‌23) The spontaneously burst into a ball flames that can't be extinguished until all the energy is dissipated ‌24) If you live in a block of flats you won't be able to charge at home unless you have a carpark with a charger, but will have to share. ‌25) If you live in a terraced house or a house without a drive, you can't always park close to you house, even if you could there's the problem of electric cables over public footpaths

This is only true if you charge up to 100% each time like Lee does. If you only charge up to 80-90% or what you need to get to your destination you spend a lot less time stopped. Pattern for me on long Euro trips is: 2 hours, 15 min stop (wee), 2 hours, 30 min stop (lunch/wee), 2 hours, 15 min stop (wee), 2 hours end. That'll get you 500-600 miles in 9 hours with an hour stopped.

What really boils my p#ss is the big well known charities that have shops on pretty much every high street,. These shops are manned and run by volunteers who give up their own time free of charge whilst the "upper management" cream off a fat salary from the volunteers hard work. The charities persistently beg for donations from those of us who go out to work to support our families and again cream off a large chunk of that donated money to cover "administration costs" etc. Ok a large charity needs an accountant, why can't an accountant volunteer some time to do the charities books, why can't so called management donate their time unpaid? Charities imo are nothing more than cash cows for the greedy rather than the nedy.

If your vehicle had broken down, that would have been very Serious, You would have needed a tow truck what would had to pick up your vehicle with it's Crane facility, then the Transportation back to your home in Mansfield, it would cost an absolute Fortune. You needed more rests, because I could see that you were Suffering from Driving Fatigue, You starting to go into what we call, Tunnel Vision. I should know, it has happened to me a long time ago, it is very Frightening. When doing a Long Distance, it does get very Boring and makes you feel very sleepy. You must have plenty of Breaks and Good Rest. Have a Coffee and something to eat. When, You are ready, carry on with your journey. I am really Glad that you made it Safely and back home in one piece, and Not another Road Traffic Collision with another vehicle, that is what can happen Lee. Roadworks in the UK are to ensure you don't get to where you want to be at a decent time. There are places where the holes in the roads have been there for over 5 years and there is no chance of it being fixed. There is a road that you would have passed as you used the M2 where there are 23 surface water drains and every one is blocked. After rain the kerb disappears. I think if you put up a road works sign the guys should be there 24 7 to get that fix done asap. If not then don't put the cones in. Anyway we have millions of asylum seekers who should be fixing our roads to pay for their freebies. We could have great roads but our governments won't do what is right as they are dim and stupid.

Britain has 18 road cones for every man woman and child. We use British roads to store them to save hiring 437 air craft hangers to put them in. Free storage. 40 million raised from speeding fines and 100k for contractors to move them down the road once a week. 😮 It's so cunning you could cut your teeth with it.

It tells me they're using the pretext of roadworks to restrict traffic flow. There is a village near me which has a bypass. In the centre of the village there is a 40 foot section of road which is closed for roadworks. It's been this way for 6 months. I simply moved the barriers and drove through then replaced the barriers. They actually want to close some of the roads and reduce the lanes and speed limits but they have to be sly about it.

Why should it matter when the car is hooked up to the charger? Seriously, why? Stupid design, non-standard charging equipment, never get the cost of the charge on the spot, this is why you don't let fanboy nerds design the charging network. The UK For Roadworks is a joke - Lee, follow the money is all i'll say. The Traffic Management firms who put these roadworks in place are all private companies. Rent out cones, signage, and signalling. Paid per day for the hire. The longer the works are in place more money is paid to them. (The 2022 rate was 1.25 GBP per cone, 4.50 GBP per sign) If hard markers (studs in road) then 1.90GBP per marker). So you can see the longevity of why these stay in place. Even when local authority is cutting the siddings/grass litter picking they'll use Traffic Management. FOLLOW THE MONEY.

And whats more I had the unfortunate task of triallng them too replace the $x4s and Ambos we used. ALL evs failed within a week..

"There are over 12 million ‘red line runners’ across the UK, reveals new research from breakdown provider Green Flag. These ‘red line runners’ are drivers who let their fuel tank get as close to empty as possible before filling up, with 31 per cent of drivers more likely to do this due to the current cost-of-living crisis. Young drivers are the most likely to risk running out of fuel, with half (51 per cent) of ‘red line runners’ aged under 35. Drivers need to be careful, as running fuel gauges down can be a risky business. Nearly three in 10 drivers (28 per cent), some 11 million people, admit their vehicle has run out of fuel before, rising to over half (55 per cent) of 18-34-year-olds. " Source Direct Line. 11 million!😮 Just saying.

Most experienced EV drivers in a Taycan would have just set off with the 65% showing and driven 100 miles to the Applegreen hub of 16 Rapids at Potters Bar on the M25. Then fill a classic 20% to 80% in 20 minutes to get to Mansfield with a good margin.

@@bryanfairfax703 He only had about 135 miles range at Dover ( 65%) and NP is 130 miles so he would have been doing his usual antics for the last half hour. Better to stop at 20% to give options in case of charger issues.

@@Hitstirrer I agree, but it is all just for click bait, views and entertainment for his channel. It is just that people actually take his enternainment for reality with electric vehicles and base thier buying choices on this. His Porsche would only nees to to go from 65% to 80% at MFG Dover for an extra 10 mins at most to make NP with ease or as you say stop sooner. But that would not make a drama?

I agree with diesel being the best answer for the trip. But buying a diesel is a huge risk now as we know the Government is going to absolutely nail them in road fund shortly. I can also see fuel duty going up as they blindly pursue this net zero fantasy.

You can't easily buy a new diesel car now either, lots of car makers have stopped selling diesel models, that means that in the life-span of a typical diesel car there will be very few left on the roads. Governments may also offer much better scrappage incentives on diesel cars too. When the bribe gets good enough even the most die-hard diesel fan will get rid. What does all this mean? Like LPG only being available at some filling sites and less with each passing year the same thing will happen with diesel, supermarkets will stop selling diesel and owners may have to drive to bigger BP, Shell and Esso sites. This will happen quicker on the continent and particularly France where "gazole" powered cars have never been as popular as in the UK. Thanks for reading this far, nobody! 🙂
