@RyanHolliday2114 жыл бұрын
These one direction loops are unfortunately not very efficient. Many people will opt not to use it because the stop they want to go to is more than halfway around the loop, sometimes almost all the way back to where they departed. It's quicker to walk in that case and that discourages people from using the system. Detroit in the US has a similar elevated train downtown that does a single loop in one direction and it has the same problem with ridership. I'm surprised it's still in operation.

This monorail was fabulous and it went around the central Sydney CBD brilliantly - there were also plenty of people using it the times I rode on it (from 9am to 8pm). However the biggest mistake was the route did no go to the central bus hub OR the central railway station - either of those would have allowed easy interconnection. It was a useless one directional loop that went from nowhere to nowhere and burned effectively money until they finally ripped it up. *muuhh so backwards* The key difference between the new light rail and your former monorail is that the light rail actually transports tons of people according to their demand and is not some tourist bullshit. Why should roadspace only be dedicated for cars and not also for transit vehicles anyway? I love how the main argumment of monorail defenders is simply muuhhh it takes up no road space, so it justifies to keep dumping money on it despite providing basically nothing but tourist service lol. monorail costs a lot to build and maintain, second, the capacity is super low. compared that to a light rail, it offers much smaller costs with higher capacity. in short, monorail failed because of simple economics principle. my suggestion? build a light rail(with fully segregated track) if the city is not really dense, and build a heavy rail if the city is reallly dense, sure, it probably cost more than monorails, but the capacity is really high.
