As a 911 owner I can say that the 944, in whatever variant you prefer (personally I like the later 944 Turbos), is one the best sportscars I have driven in terms of smiles for miles. Great chassis, good torque and a nice gearshift, but it still requires you as the driver to have significant input and while not as tricky as a 911 at the limit it still has some bite and the driver needs to concentrate in order to access all the cars performance. Combine this with great practicality of a decent boot and the back seats you can get a decent amount of luggage in and the 'Porsche Tax' is a little bit less than the 911. Personally I don't think the 944 is in anyway lesser than the 911, it shares many traits namely strong build quality, driver focus, excellent vision out the front and really rewarding gear change. I would not feel disappointed owning a 944 as it delivers a different driving experience but is still a real drivers car and a real Porsche.

Thank you for the video, I own a 87 944 base, 87 944 turbo, 1990 944 S2 and a 1992 964 Turbo. I love them all, but I drive my 944 Turbo the most, My 964 Turbo is such a special Porsche. Drive them and enjoy!

What makes the S2 a S2, how is it different from the base or turbo models?
@333pg3334 ай бұрын
@@MMBeing Basically the base n/a had a 2.5lt 8v motor. The S2 which was released some years later had a 3ltr 16v n/a motor. About 155bhp vs 210bhp. The turbo started with 220bhp and finished with 250bhp. They all had different transmissions too.

Drove an '88 944 for 13 years and 273000 miles. Still ran great when I sold it. Drove from VA to AZ and back 4 times- most comfortable long distance car I've ever owned! Thinking about snagging a 951 in the next couple years!

As great as this particular car is, if it has only 37k it means someone did not drive and get the joy it offers. That’s about 1,000 miles a year! It was meant to put the smile on the driver’s face, not the garage decor.

The 944 S2 was one of the most beautiful affordable super cars of modern times. I drove a red coloured S2 like the one in this video across France and Spain in the 1990s. Very comfortable, very reliable, very easy to drive - I was able to drive it carefully up a dirt track in the Pyrenees with no problems - and also very fast. If I remember correctly, its power steering was programmed to disengage after 25 miles.

The 944 S2 is my favourite car of all time. I owned a 911 - 993, then a 944S2, 92 compliance, then a Boxster when it came out. By far the 944 S2 is the one I wish i had never sold. Best looking roadster style, best seating position, awesome engine, and loved the manual. The rear seat and boot is a plus. If only Porsche would wake up and create it again. The Boxster was awesome, but cramped, and impractical. THE 994 was also way better looking than the 968 which lost the masculine look. And I agree with the pop-up headlights, they look awesome on this cool car.

944 or 911 from the same era? Let me think about that for a nano second....911 every time. But 944 or a modern 911, that's a different story, the more recent 911s are so sterile now they've lost their fun. Back in the day you had to concentrate to get the best from your 911 which made them entertaining and interesting, the newer ones have so much gizmo on them they don't need driving anymore. So in that case I'd take the 944 and at least have something more unusual on the road.

And the dials ‘view thru the steering wheel’ are fundamentally different …. 944 is a nice set up but 911 is a 5 dial arrangement with rev counter at the centre - so quite different in every aspect except font!

@@EBMproductions1 Firstly, I don't consider drag racing a European sports car built for handling the correct or suitable form of measurement. Secondly, if you insist doing so, then yeah, 14secs is very slow. Thirdly, I own and/or have driven plenty of 944s to know what I'm talking about here. Do you know the difference between the 924S, 944 na, 944S, 944 turbo and finally the S2? Not to mention the 968. Oh and lastly, I own a 944 turbo race car that would do the 1/4 in substantially less time than 14seconds. I have no idea what that time would be as I have no interest in drag racing. But as it weighs 1150kgs and has approx 750bhp then I'm guessing under 10 seconds. ;-)
@EBMproductions14 ай бұрын
@@333pg333 Lol can't believe your saying a NA 944 is slow if you claim you owned one...14sec is just behind a mk7 Golf Gti that is not slow for stock cars and much less a car from the 80s, tracking these cars is worse then Drag racing them it breaks greatly more parts that is why i don't track much but i do go for long drives with other cars trying their luck on a rolling race...I own a 944 S1 and im going to go test drive your 944 Turbo friday yours is not STOCK so of course it will be faster but the stock cars are not slow especially not after testdriving quite a few cars after i bought the 944. Opinions differ if the cars slow for you then its cool but objectively the cars not.
