I had the same problem with the DME on my 84 944. Went through the full engine and checked everything but the car didnt want to cold start. Come to find out the DME was bad even though every test we did on it checked out as within spec. Easy fix though and it helped me eliminate a number of other problems with the car as well as prevent some future problems. Huge thanks to you for all your videos because they were a really useful resource during the process

@@NC944er Definitely, I had it happen with a 924S I have as well but didn't connect that it was the computer until after I had gone through a bunch of other stuff and basically eliminated any other possible cause. +1 on everything you listed, we’ve done a lot of similar things on our cars and I noticed the same exact gain after installing the new DME from F9. I was dumb and broke my initial MAF eeprom so even driving around with the stock AFM I noticed a giant improvement in acceleration and idle and also no more weird random ignition loss around 4k rpm on a hard pull. Absolutely worth every penny on that one. It’s been wonderful the amount of aftermarket support that’s popped up for these cars over the last 10 years. I wonder if anyone can come up with a timing chain conversion to change all the pulleys to accept a chain instead of a belt. I’d buy that so fast 😂😂😂

@@TakeFlightGarage It’s pretty wild, my DME circuit board looked good to the naked eye, hard to see micro-fractures in the individual solder joints. I hate to recommend every new 944 owner drop $500 on a new computer, but it really does eliminate a number of issues that are otherwise difficult to test for.

@NC944er 6 ай бұрын
@@cartersmith5823 The late speedo is driven by a sensor on the transaxle, it’s a round black device protruding from above the left axle flange. I’d first check that it’s not damaged and that it’s connected properly, no severed wires, broken connectors, etc. They can also get fouled up with CV axle grease, so maybe unplug it and clean out the contacts as well. It could be something in the gauge cluster as well, an individual electrical component failure, but it’s easier to start at the sensor and work back.

@@spencer2.032 Yeah, that model year featured the embedded antenna from the factory. You don’t necessarily need to install a glass with that antenna design, you could come up with an alternate antenna for the radio, or skip it altogether, but you would need a later glass, as the design is different from the early version.
