at 48:00 that's definitely Frankford high. Graduated there class of 94. Grew up in Frankford, and was hoping you would've went down my old street. You came close early on. Grew up on Ditman between Gillingham and Orthodox. That empty lot on Tackawanna has been there for over 30 years. Used to be an abandoned warehouse. I remember watching them tear it down from my house.

Thank you for this. I was born and raised in the area and my Mom would not move even though her block was really bad. I am so sad to see how the neighborhood went so downhill. I go back to the fifties when it was great. Drugs are the problem. Your work is much appreciated.

The first 35 mins are what we would consider “east” frankford or white hall. Home of the frankford chargers. This is probably only 1/3 or maybe 1/4 of the whole frankford neighborhood. The rougher area of fkd. Thrift way was name of super market at bridge/Pratt (33:45) .....frankford boys club (legendary youth football teams) playground at like 36:00 min...first suspect in frankford slasher case worked at local fish market right on frankford ave. Im pretty sure the killer was never caught. Not sure if eventually the tour shows it, but A real tour of frankford definitely needs a drive on Oxford ave, which goes From Margaret and orthodox all the way to out in the far northeast. Actually at 41 mins u are on Oxford ave at fkd h.s. Home of the pioneers. If u are from here or lived here, even If U mute this video U can still hear the “el” roll through the background as he turns down the side streets. Who remembers “birds birds birds” pet store? Leandros pizza? Z clothing store?...Olympia and Joseph’s shoes? The bag lady with the pigeons that used to be outside thrift way when it was opened? The jolly post at Margaret n orthodox? How bout “collectors connection” on bridge and Oakland?? Come on mayne?? My roots are too deep. Ur talkin to a real one. I am frankford. A native. Frankford finest....., born, raised, and still grindin in fkd since ‘83. Grew up on penn and arrott. Pratt and Saul (pronounced “saw” street) 4600 Naples 1100 foulkrod..shout out to jonesys, ducky’s and Jimmy’s (old corner stores) . 5000 Oxford 5000 Akron. Thanks for taking the time to show my hood. 💯👊🏻

This is my neighborhood I live on the first street you drove past, my parents used to live here in the 70s-2000s we managed to moved out but when 2008 hit we had to move back in with my mom mom and have been here ever since. It’s crazy down here.

Thanks for bringing back,MANY memories I know you went through South Philly.Many parts were ALL ITALIAN when I was growing up.I remember walking to the park,we called,"The Lakes",20th and Pattison avenue.There was a golf course connected to it.There was an Olympic size public swimming pool there.Right across Broad Street was the original Spectrum and Veterans Stadium,which we'd walk,to see our Eagles,Phillies,Flyers and,76'ers play.Straight up Broad st.Was the Philadelphia Navy Base.The community I grew up in had stores,a doctor's office,(and you could usually find the Dr.Drunk in one of our,speakeasy's)...Community center,where I began learning,karate Wilfredo,a close family friend.And basketball court,with a baseball field,where my neighborhood team won a trophy for being the best in South Philly.The community was originally built to house the workers who were employed at the Navy Base during WW2.But later,sold to the Philadelphia Housing Authority.Please.Look it up young bro'-.Treasure-trove of history there,since I see you OBVIOUSLY love history and our town...And I thank you Very much for what you're doing.Peace and Blessings-

Back in the 60's would spend hours shopping Frakford Ave. Walked from Bridge St to almost Church St. Was safe & clean back then. Shppped at Ruals & Edcos for clothes. Would stop at Ginos for a cheap meal. Also went to the boys club. Don't even like driving there even during the day.

I checked on Google. There's a pool behind the fence. Which means, I was right. 😏 I told my dad we could fit a pool in the basement.😁🤣🤣🤣

@TOON2153 жыл бұрын
Born and Raised in North Philly. Born at Episcopal hospital on front and Lehigh borderline Kensington/border line Fairhill badlands. Haha that’s priceless never heard that I have a accent. If anything I heard I speak clear. Or I pronounce words well. I get (are you white/are you mixed) just because I speak clearly and choose not to use slang in certain videos. But yea bro. Philly is still where I reside to this day. John welsh elementary school on 4th and York (k-6th) Julia De Burgos Middle school (7th-8th) on 8th and Lehigh Edison high school on front and Luzerne (9th-12th) Community college of Philadelphia 1 1/2 years dropped classes 17th and spring garden Art institute of Philadelphia on 17th and Chestnut for 4 years (graduated with degree) I love my hometown 😎❤️💯✊🏽 Thanks for stopping by have a great day

Yes, he has an accent like we all do. Kind of reminds me of a guy I knew from Newark, NJ.... We get our accents mostly from our parents but also from our neighborhood. In Philly there are different accents. Folks in South Philly talk differently than West Philly. North Philly has several accents. Depending on what part of the city you are from you might say words like "jawn", "yo", "youse", "yall", "yah-meen". I was all the way up in Newark NJ and a guy heard me say "Jawn". I didn't even realize that I used the word. He then correctly guessed that I was from Philly! LOL ..
