Roller testing would show the intended AWD capability, but of course still dependent on clutch strength, it seems some vehicles get really good on rollers then overheat in heavy testing anyways, but it tells us it will do it's wonders on wet and snow just not for rough climbs were something like A-Trac with better clutches would do better
@elkofcanada5003
@elkofcanada5003 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure A-TRAC just aggressively clamps down on the spinning wheels which is why it does so much better (not overheating) vs clutch based AWD. Also helps A-TRAC vehicles are all either 4WD with a always on centre diff lock or mechanical locking centre diff.

@@elkofcanada5003 i see what you mean...braking wheels have nothing to do with any clutches, what overheats is clutch in center because it's not true locker like sr5 4 runner has

This XRT trim on the Palisade and Tucson are for looks only. If you want a more capable Palisade and Tucson for moderate off-roading, I suggest you wait for the next-generation models which will be similar to the Santa Fe. Also, Hyundai need to do a XRT trim for the Venue and Kona.

It’s a nice looking vehicle for sure, but for the price and utility I’d had to go with the Subaru Ascent. Great video and presentation as usual! I have to say that I really enjoyed the roughed in section because it’s realistic to what many owners will experience…no private courses, etc (nothing wrong with that!) but uncut trails with a lot of vegetation and other ‘raw’ types of trails

Its getting a bit annoying with all these badge only trims that try to give the impression of some sort of sporty or offroad capabilty only to be black badges and grill. Whooptee doo. Lol Seems the Honda Pilot is the only "reliable but sorta bland crossover from Asia" that has a badge and actual off road changes. Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, and Kia are fakin it. Even US brands dont have much except like the Z74 on Tahoes. Otherwise: solid crossover! Always liked the look of these and they have some pretty good details and features. If I needed a 3 row family SUV I'd look at this as a major contender for sure.

I will admit, the wheel/chassy set means that it can't handle crazy offroad. But dirt and even mud roads. There is a lot that you can do with a new set of tires. I'm buying one and there are some changes you can do to get a better offroad profile. But yeah it's extra.

It would be awesome if manufacturers can make a combined clutch and mechanical locking system. So Full auto AWD is clutch based on/off,. At the moment one selects 4H 4L, or manually engages a locker (center, rear, front), it's switches from the clutch pack to fully mechanically locked.

I've been a fan of the new Palisades for about a year now. I actually like the styling of the regular version of the Palisade more than this XRT version. That being said, I think it's ridiculous when car companies make a car look off road capable when it's not. If it doesn't bring the goods, don't make it look like it does.There's no point to that!

So, basically, Hyundai is deceiving the consumers. It's claims it's off-road but has no off-road capabilities??? Hmmm, so what is it if it's not off-road capable??? It's a beautiful SUV. Why not just stick to AWD. It's more truthful than saying it's off-road capable when it doesn't have off-road capabilities. 🤭

I work nights and I'm rather Partial to the idea of getting home after work. Grocery getter? Well I do like to eat no matter the weather. @@RRr-yl8zrit’s an 8 seater SUV that has 20” wheels and 50 series tires. It is NOT an Off-road vehicle! Not designed to be, not marketed to be, not sold as one. Not ALL SUVs are built with off-road terrain in mind. Most that LOOK like they are, only have appearance packages, nothing special that adds to their off-road capability. It’s not a Ford Bronco or a Jeep Wrangler…it’s a family SUV that can handle most any place you need to take a family in a normal day. Sure, any vehicle can handle a few dirt roads, my Honda Civic can if I drive carefully, probably do just fine in most cases as well.

If you ever owned a true off-road vehicle you wouldn’t even ask the question. Drive a Jeep for a few years and then drive a Palisade. See how far you get..lol. I have and I’ve tested the 2023 Palisade off-road many times. It’ll get you where you need to go in most any conditions…it’s still a grocery getting, family SUV though.
@michaelhefford6420
@michaelhefford6420 Жыл бұрын
Just because it’s in the SUV category doesn’t mean it is suitable for any sort of serious off-roading. The fact that this model completed the course in this video with the stock, crappy, all season tires is actually impressive. But on a woods trail isn’t where this vehicle is at home and isn’t where it shines. Take it on a long highway drive and you’ll know why I say that. From Wiki: “Only about 15% of SUV owners ever go off-road. According to Jeep Wrangler brand manager Kevin Metz, 60% of Jeep Wrangler owners go off-road while around 80% of Rubicon owners do.” Jeeps are overpriced, but the very high resale makes up for that fact. As for reliability, I’d probably pick a Jeep over a Hyundai, but I currently own a Hyundai because I was so impressed with the features and comfort for the price.
