As a complete and total Land Cruiser nerd I've come to the final conclusion on what is a "Land Cruiser" in my mind: Does Toyota call it a Land Cruiser? It is. If they don't. Its not. Looking at you FJ Cruiser. There have been different duty levels of Land Cruisers for decades now and we need to get used to the fact that a light duty Land Cruiser and a heavy duty Land Cruiser are both Land Cruisers. If you [general "you"] want to get into the weeds on chassis codes and even into what makes one model more heavy duty than another on a similar chassis, thats all fine and well so long as you are doing so to address specific weak points for a build and not to shame randoms on the internet. Yes, the 250 is lighter duty than the 300, but its still a very robust machine.

@@PatrickRich so if Toyota introduces an “eco” branch of the Land Cruiser family in the form of a unibody EV will that still be worthy of wearing the Land Cruiser name? The 250 hybrid is the biggest departure from the heavy duty LC, which gave the LC its credibility, that it’s a complete joke. Worse yet, is the fan boys who jump on the bandwagon further confusing the average consumer who thinks this hybrid is no different than a Troopy in its capability and reliability. Toyota calling this a Land Cruiser is an insult to their past. Call it a Prado LC and stop pretending those who own it are driving the legendary LC.

Stop using 4 high!!! 4 high is for flat paved roads with snow or gravel. You should be using 4 low for all these vehicle tests. 4 low keeps your transmission and engine cool. It applies / multiplies the torque from your engine to your wheels. Plus gives you more control to climb and descend hills. Use 4 low 1st gear to descend steep hills. Most importantly in most vehicles like Toyota, Jeep, and Ford 4 low disables your traction control allowing you to spin your tires.

8:10 "Don't stop on ice" - it would seem logical advice. But in real winter conditions, when there is snow and it doesn't melt for several weeks in a row, ice forms automatically at all intersections and traffic lights. First, the snow is compacted under the pressure of the weight and tires of the car. Then it is polished and finally turns into ice under the influence of the sun during the day and the deep minus at night. Therefore, tires, like in the video, no matter how many peaks were drawn on the side, are still not winter tires, because they simply lack the tread lamella checkers... That is, you are stuck not on ice, but on snow, and it is precisely because of these tires. This is very funny, by the way, because just before that you are being shown an advertisement for tires...

I might be in the minority here, but I prefer the Ford Ranger of the two vehicles. The Toyota seems very tech laiden, with lots of buttons, switches, options, and potential glitches - yes, I'm aware the Ford did glitch severely. However, the Ford just feels easier to use and a tad more mechanical; a truck vs. a 4-wheel Atari games system.

Another great video👍Other than a snowmobile, I don’t think there’s too many machines that would’ve made it up the top. I’m very impressed with the At 4s on the Land Cruiser.

Great video! I do want to add a risk you left out about driving aired down tires on the pavement. Airing down you tires means the tire can flex more, increasing it's contact patch with the ground. Have you ever taken a paper clip and bent, aka flexed, it back and forth until it broke? If you have and you touched where it broke immediately after you would be surprised how hot it got and lucky if you didn't get a very small minor burn. The bending the paperclip back and forth heats it up. The tires flexing more adds heat too, but at low speeds the heat doesn't build up faster than it can dissipate. However, at highway speeds the heat will accumulate faster than it can dissipate and at a certain point the different layers of the tires construction will delaminate and very quickly thereafter the tire will blow out. This is what was happening with the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire rollovers back in the 1990s. Ford used the same tire on the Explorer that they had spec'd for the lighter Ford Ranger. Then Ford spec'd a tire pressure for the Explorer that was biased towards comfort for the passengers. The spec'd tire pressure was absolutely fine. The problem arose when the tires eventually lost several psi of air pressure. Combine that loss of air pressure with a family of 4 or 5 loading up for the family vacation that they drove to on the interstate and it became a recipe for disaster. This problem is exactly what led to the federal government mandating that all new cars be equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS for short).

I liked the video, but I hope you didn't get rid of the 4Runner for the LC.
@drivingsports18 сағат бұрын
Got rid of the 4Runner after it was damaged (with TFL) and due to parts availability it would have taken 6 months to fix. Traded it for a Ford Ranger Tremor which we traded for the Raptor.

Why not install a designated winter tire and not an off road tire with winter designation? Doesn’t matter what’s your rigs set up, with no traction you’re going nowhere!

Ryan should do a competition for the cheapest new vehicle that can get up this hill under snow conditions. $80k is a lot of money and even then couldn't get up the hill, not even close. I wonder how close regular SUVs could get using the same tires. Stuff like Mazda CX-50, Subaru Outback, Ford Explorer, etc.

New Land Cruiser First Edition starts at ~$75k and slightly over $80k OTD. Wondering how many owners are brave (or crazy) enough to drive a $80k SUV in this kind harsh roads. Well, since they're already crazy enough pay $80k for a SUV with Civic engine, I guess it won't be a problem...
