Thank you Dr Joe. I’m in the hospital because of my diabetes and you were more helpful and informative than the hospital nutritionist. You are not in the States. The meat industry here has a very powerful, political and dangerous lobby. So powerful that no doctor I’ve seen has the nerve to call out red meat as the danger it represents. Hence, in America diabetes and obesity in not only on the rise. It’s out of control. Thank you for this video. I’ve subscribed turned on notifications AND have shared this particular video with all my family. Please send out the video on walnuts. One of my favorite nuts.

@@michaell3711 If that figure of HDL you quoted is correct, I wouldn't be dancing with it. It's too high. Very high HDL is bad. I know people get excited about high HDL, but there is a sweet spot. Too high HDL is not a good thing. Just saying...
@michaell3711 Жыл бұрын
@@drjoetvMD ,,, HDL cholesterol normal range is up to 2.5 ,so mine is within range. I do have a lot of avocados, which is the main character of my HDL. Doctors have different views on cholesterol levels. I got to understand that it is the RATIO that matters. Cholesterol ratio is calculated by dividing total cholesterol by HDL. The truth is I am an healthy eater who exercises almost daily. All my other lipids except for hemoglobin levels (12) are great. My A1C is 4.8 and liver profile, creatinine BUN etc are all good. I am 54 with a BMI of 24 . I won't be alarmed about a HDL which is within reach.
@drjoetvMD Жыл бұрын
@@michaell3711 HDL and its usefulness has been overblown. New data tells us HDL is not as protective as we once thought which casts question marks over the ratio you talked about. The data you shared about yourself is pretty good. I'm not trying to scare you. Not at all. It's just that there is research evidence to suggest that too high HDL is not actually a good thing. Sorry to be a pain in the bum

Thank you very much. I thought the consensus now is eggs do not increase your bad cholesterol if you eat them in moderation (say 1 egg a day)!
@drjoetvMD3 жыл бұрын
1 egg a day (boiled) probably won't do you too much harm if your cholesterol is high. The problem though is that human beings are greedy. Who eats one egg a day for instance. Even those who do will have it preferably greasy. Not helpful. Also context is important. Having your eggs in cakes, buns & pastries with refined flour just makes the cholesterol problem worse. The mindset will be, well they say I can have eggs even though my cholesterol is high. Not helpful. I will prefer those with cholesterol issues to stick to egg whites. That's a safer bet in my opinion

Thank you so much for the information. The controversies surrounding eggs is becoming one too many, some researchers have shown the yolk of eggs are good cholesterol and not bad cholesterol. Please clarify on this for us.
@drjoetvMD5 ай бұрын
The yolk of an egg has the most nutrients and that includes cholesterol. Your guess is as good as mine if a food that has cholesterol in it can influence blood cholesterol. There are these industry-sponsored studies whose findings are laughable and of course they use those results to propel a formidable lobby

Moji, if you have succeeded in lowering your cholesterol levels to the normal range, then there is nothing wrong in having meat every now and again. However if you are still struggling to get those numbers down, then it is best to avoid it. And No, air frying doesn't get rid of the saturated fat in meat is the answer to your 2nd question
