Locksmith Job 259 Electric Strike & Door Closer

Looking at a foyer door with an old electric strike that is no longer working, replacing the electric strike on the double foyer door entry and also installing a door closer as the old one has lost all its oil and was shutting too quickly. Agreed! I've watched 4 videos on VOIP Phones, and IP doorbells as I plan implementing a system where I can have delivery drivers ring the door bell, then I can answer the call over the internet and unlock the door so they can leave the parcel inside even if I'm away. None of the videos actually explained or showed how the actual srike lock worked!

question: was the door that had the electric strike being installed in it able to be opened and closed? if yes, how were the wires ran through the door to allow for it to be opened and closed?

so you reolaced the door closer... how about a latch guard/astragal so that the latch can't be "loid'ed"... !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Didn't like this one.... Here's why... 1) You correctly identified that the electric strike wasn't working... BUT you failed to even open the strike to see what was wrong with it! If that was a lock, would you do the same? Wouldn't you even bother to examine it to see what's wrong with it? 2) You then correctly identified the most likely cause of the failure of the strike.... the door closer slamming the hell out of it for so long. And STILL didn't bother to examine the damage in the strike. It was most likely just a spring lever in the strike, knocked out of place on that fail secure. 3) Anyone who sees that strike would instantly notice its shallow depth... Didn't like the way you ground down the latch of the lock... but i get it... its the best option after already fitting the strike. Thanks for your uploads I do enjoy them.... to me (an ex security engineer who specialised in access control).... that looked pure 100% cowboy. Sorry to say it.

Very few locksmith will ever try an fix an electric strike. Once stuff like this fails. Let’s say we were able to fix a spring. Then it fails shortly after. The customer will expect us to fix it at our expense when it fails. Just better to replace the part with a new one in this situation. Everyone is happy in the end

Cheaper and like 2815Juan said, the customer will expect you to fix or replace it when it stops working again.. Sometimes its cheaper to just repalce it instead of trying to fix it.

What is that tool you use to file or mortice the door to modify it for the strike?

Hi, it's the DEWALT DCS551B or 18v version, 6mm shaft bur cutter, 20,000 RPM "Danger Danger will Roberson " must use safety , I use a full face mask and ear muffs,, but It's one of my best tools, can't live without it
