What to eat for health has been a historically divisive topic, but it really shouldn’t be. If you want optimal health, you need to do just one thing: eat the foods that heal you and avoid the ones that harm you. The foundation of health and longevity is diet.
In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I discuss what to eat for longevity and how to focus on food as medicine. What I’ve discovered has blown my mind and changed the way I approach my own health and the health of my patients. I’ve compiled it all into a new book called Young Forever, which comes out on February 21, 2023. Learn more and preorder the book at youngforeverbook.com.
This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens and InsideTracker.

I agree with doc about eating grass fed grass finished or pasture raised animal foods, not everyone can afford them. If lower income families can afford grass fed grain finished meat or farm raised salmon, I'd rather see them eat that than packaged cerial or pizza. It's not a perfect substitute but in general people's health would improve greatly.

@@soledadmcnally so, I don't think I can go to a Dr with a list of things to test for, right? That's what I would love to do.. but doctors are in a hurry and want to know specifically what your problem is. Then maybe they order a blood test for that. I would dearly love to see a functional Dr. But I need to win the lottery first. Cause we all know that insurance would rather pay for big medical issues instead of paying less to avoid them.

I’m not knocking you when I say this Mark so hope it makes sense……life isn’t really about survival although being alive is needed to have human experiences yes….I’m more concerned with living and serving my purpose in Gods creation than just try to stick around too long……and it flat out says in Genesis that God created man to be vegan not eat animals in any way. That’s why people back thousands of years ago lived healthier and longer but they weren’t after long life, they were just abiding with Mother Nature the way God intended and long life is or can be a result of that natural harmony. The ego does it’s best to distract us from what really matters.

I, In general, personalize my diet per ingredients and taste. Knowing the details of a food, how was it processed, was it sprayed or transported to far. Fiber vs carb ratio Sugar per serving size Bread is sprouted but I cheat only after I CHK what the poor choice leads to. Rye and dence loafs pumpernickel for Lil cream cheese an lox an onion.. Eggs from a person's farm. I realize I eat to much per meal bc I've fasted twice for nutrition purposes and don't get hungry like when I fastedfor religion reasons.. Buddhist an Judaism I'm confused on Steele oats and brown rice...

Hi all. I want to compare the mono unsaturated fat quality or effectiveness of the foods containing it. Most nuts (except walnuts) have predominantly mono unsaturated fats. Olive oil and avocados too have mono unsaturated fats. Are the mono unsaturated fats in these foods of same effectiveness or quality or is mono unsaturated fat in one food better than the other? I am interested in MUFA only here. Not discussing about any other nutrients. Pl help with this

@jasontaylor500
@jasontaylor500 Жыл бұрын
Just cause you feel better doesn't mean that the carnivore diet is good. Most Americans eat a diet that is about a 1 or 2/10. The Carnivore diet is about a 4/10. Therefore you would see a big improvement. However, a whole food plant-based diet is like 8/10. So yes, you might feel better on a Carnivore diet but there are still much better alternatives out there.

@@jasontaylor500 i tried doing the vegetable thing and didn't get anything out of it. Since going mostly carnivore over a year ago, no more back pain. About twice a year I'd throw my back out and I'd be walking around crooked and in severe pain for weeks. Even when I wasn't in severe pain, I'd have to be careful what I did not to throw my back out. Even when not in severe pain, I I could only sleep in one position. Now, no more pain at all. My knees no longer hurt going up and down stairs. After workouts or reffing, my recovery time of being sore has greatly reduced. I used to have patches of dandruff.....no more. I even used to have bad ear wax. I can't remember the last I had to clean out my ears. My energy is more consistent. I don't have the lowes anymore. I had a CT test done on my heart a month ago and I scored a 0. And I eat until I'm full. Eating vegetables, I was always hungry. I'm done with vegetables at least being a significant part of my diet.

Dr Hyman...I've seen many of your talks, and I can't help but notice that you often need to belch during your talks. You might want to look into reasons for that. Conditions that may cause belching include: gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastroparesis, gastritis, peptic ulcers, lactose intolerance, fructose or sorbitol malabsorption, H. pylori to name a few. Belching as a single symptom isn’t usually cause for concern unless it’s frequent or excessive. I've seen it a lot in you. Just saying :)

I'm confused about the veggies. Dr. Gundry states that we shouldn't be eating foods that are out of season. Which clearly means that a lot of veggies cannot be eaten on a consistent basis year round. As an example, that means no broccoli from basically April to October. So, plenty of veggies that are in season?
@MoonPhantom
@MoonPhantom Жыл бұрын
It's actually a little amusing to me because... This is an example of how different races of humans actually are... different. Asians have developed in a land where there are always veggies around, so they always had a very veggie-heavy diet and don't need a lot of protein. Me, however. I'm a Dane, I live in Denmark. We don't have veggies for half the year, so we have developed to sustain ourselves on very protein-rich diets... AND on consuming dairy which is very calorie dense... Dairy is also a thing most Asians are intolerant too... But here in the north, it was a necessity back in the day. And there were no vegetarian Vikings, while Buddhist monks would indeed be vegetarian on principle. So.... I think that veggie concept applies mostly to people from warmer places on the globe.

There is a lot of seemingly contradictory evidence. And hence all the different school of thoughts point in different directions. But one thing that seems fairly safe to do is Mediterranean keto or low carb: a bit of fish every day, an egg, some nuts, avocado, olives (or the oils made out of them), lots of low carb vegetables like broccoli, selery, lettuce, radices… you can’t go wrong with that.
