Apart from sleep disorders (e.g. apnoea) or substance abuse, hypersomnia/insomnia can be caused by having too much stress in our 'stress bucket' (Hippocampi). I have found can't miss for sleeping. Cold therapy!! I accidentally came upon this as I consistently read about how cold showers or cold water immersion will replace weak and old mitochondria. I was experimenting with when I noticed a heavy tiredness, but a peaceful tiredness, came over me after a cold shower in the evening. But, cold immersion is the most amazing sleep aid. Consistently!!! I am blessed to live beside a very cold stream of water coming from the mountains. I plunge in to my neck as late as possible every night. There are many other benefits but the sleep was the first hugh benefit I discovered, accidentally!!!

There was a lot of very important information, about lifestyle and nutrition, and how those affect our sleep pattern, so thank you for that. But I think, there is missing link, which is essential. And it’s about trauma and chronic stress, especially in early childhood - they are the major factors and “promotors” for sleep problems later in life. It would be even more informative if this fact was included in the topic.
@lesleymiles49464 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I know that my sleep issues go back probably to the very first weeks and months of my life...my mother wasn't able to bond with me. To re-create that essential sense of safety later is hard. I simply don't feel safe in going to sleep. There is hypervigilance. From this very basic lack will develop anxiety about going to sleep...which builds on itself.

Don't take any food or fluids after that. 3. @ 9.30 pm eat 10g or 20g butter. Eat it directly taken from refrigerator [no need to add any milk or any liquid] 4. I've done a lot of umpiring last year (206 games) and this year (170 games). I rarely get any sleep and it caught up with me. Was not eating right and on a regular schedule which is bad because I have type 2 diabetes. I also was not getting excercise which I get from golfing, not using a car which screws any benefit of golfing. So all three of those things were going on and this went on for months until it caught up to me and I had to stop umpiring. I decided to quit in early October and give myself time to recuperate. It helped a great deal after the first three weeks. I figure I was at 70% and now maybe 80% of normal roughly. Plan to start golfing again next week. This idea that the world record is 11 days of not sleeping is total bull f'ing crap.

Hello I never had trouble sleeping when I was working. for 30 plus years I got up around 4 am every day. I only need 4/5 hours so people more it depends on you. The stress from work/kids /traffic ETC by time I got home I was ready for bed. I retire 4 years ago the past 2 years I notice my sleeping has changed, having a hard time falling asleep sometimes I don't fall asleep till 2am I'm 64 years old I been hearing age might have something to do with it Don't know not a Dr I don't want to take melatonin. I try to take supplements at night to calm my mind done. so, it's been a challenge for me the past 2 years. I try hot bath couple hours before I sleep. so, programs like this it helps understand why people have a hard time sleeping. I hope there be videos of people my age to help them sleep better thanks.

@@patriciamasterson4721 I tried to do that but it didn't last more than a few days. It's so inconvenient. I'll have to make a remote control switch, that's the only way it could happen.

I was thinking a roll of "Chicken'wire" netting might work. Make a "tent" over the bed - then find a way of getting in and out ! 😂 I have a "Bivouac" of sticks and spare blankets, clothes, cats etc over mine which makes beating the cold Very cheap where it would be Very expensive. A 75watt fan heater will handle the coldest night out there.

That 8 hours of non-stop beauty sleep is the normal is a myth created and maintained by some quarters, like all Indians are vegetarians. Allergy, noise, fumes and smoke "gently" brought in to the bedroom environment from outside, room temperature, life situations ( tending to babies, the sick or elderly, or ones own health conditions etc) are some or many of the reasons. As someone mentioned very intelligently during Covid era, after doing some history search from 200 years or before, people taking a break from night time sleep was very normal before the advent (lol) of electricity.

I think you sleep until your ready to get up. If you feel pretty good when you wake you had a good night. 6 hours of good sleep is my sweet spot.

I believe it is harmful to their health to make kids start school at 7.30 or even to be at school by 7.30 for an 8 am start. Never mind the poor teachers.This means waking kids at 5.30 to ensure time for a proper breakfast and a shower and dressing and travel in traffic to the campus . Little brains need enough sleep to work well.

They're not interested in children learning. The correct term is indoctrination, and lack of sleep helps cement this process.

A huge reason is sleep apnea! Anyone complaining about feeling tired or lack of sleep should be tested for sleep apnea. You don't always have to snore to have this. Plus, single people may not be aware they have it, too!

I have lucid dreams for a year and a half. Tried using no electronics, no eating before sleeping, sleeping pills, and Xanax AND I STILL HAVE LUCID DREAMS! I’m tired!
@Arrasel4 жыл бұрын
Do you happen to use LDN (low dose naltrexone) ? I know that gives vivid dreams, in the first weeks of usage, at least. I took xanax for months and it doesn't provide a restful sleep. Benzos doesn't allow you to enter REM sleep. I only slept 2-3 hours with it. But I had to take due to anxiety.
@rubywarda68714 жыл бұрын
Arrasel What is LDN? I used to smoke weed and stopped overnight a year and a half ago. I used to sleep like a baby with weed but now, I dream, wake up and go back to sleep and continue the same dream. The cycle goes on all night. I know that I’m dreaming when I’m dreaming.
@Arrasel4 жыл бұрын
Well, your dreams may be the side effects of smoking that weed. Do you have them since you stopped smoking? LDN is an immune modulator used to treat autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto. Sometimes when I'm in a dream I know it's not real, too. But it must be tiring to dream all night long.
@rubywarda68714 жыл бұрын
Arrasel The lucid dreams started when I stopped smoking weed. Yes, I’m tired!!! I’m celibate for 2 years too. My vices (sex and weed ) we’re controlling me. Since quitting them, now my dreams control me. Thank God, now, I’m more peaceful with myself.
@Arrasel4 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm glad you gave up drugs and sexual immorality. I'd rather have dreams than that. You made a mistake by smoking that thing. Maybe try a detoxifying technique. Try to change your diet and try some supplements for the cognitive function. Maybe some L-Tryptophan or something else to help you sleep more peacefully.

Does tea affects sleep the same way as coffee?
@alexforce93 жыл бұрын
Well it depends of the kind of the tea. Black tea, green tea - those can mess with your sleep. Herbal tea - not so much (unless you drink a lot of it and need to get up to pee hehe). Fruit teas have a lot of vit C in them and vit C id good but it have waking effect on the body. ( so better to leave those for the mornings)
