Dr. McDougall is an MD with integrity. See all the 'famous' doctors who flip their opinions whenever a fad diet comes and goes. They jump on the bandwagon, make millions, jump to another do the same while Dr. McDougall never bent what he believes in through thick and thin for 40+ years. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

I dissagree! It is hard to hold to a conclusion - when it goes against the profits of large industries like meat, dairy, pharmacutical. They defend profit - remember the cigarette industry? McDougall had heart problems at an early age, and with research discovered the dietry connection.

I could not walk, the pain was too great which has been a problem for over 50 years... NOT NOW! I found this info and quit animal products. NOW I CAN walk, and exist without swelling in my joints and in my brain. THANK YOU! I will eat brown rice and beans forever, and never feel sick and tired again! :)

Eat fruit and leaves and feel even better. Starch is a cheap/poormans version. Beans are downright hard to digest and cause a feast for intestinal bacteria producing gas. Which in turn produces endotoxin and raises inflation.

Amazing video! I love how you tell people not to get into the weeds. I get emails about BPA, GMO, organic, gluten, acid/alkaline - so many distractions when people just need to stick to a low fat starch-based diet. Plus it's so tasty - mashed potatoes, tacos, baked fries, rice and beans with salsa and baked corn tortillas.

I was one of those intelligent people who got duped by Wheat Belly, then something clicked. I remember reading on the Wheat Belly page that some people were not shedding the weight, and Dr. Davis said, if you find that your weight isn't going down, cut the dairy out of your diet too. (What the???) I came across Medical Medium, Forks Over Knives, and other plant-based diets, and suddenly realised it was all wrong. How could I have been so stupid - why would eating high fat, restricting fruits and vegetables, heal your body? It all makes sense now. I am so glad I found Dr. McDougall.
@markdotcomau
@markdotcomau 7 жыл бұрын
Not stupid at all, you're learning like the rest of us. I've just started on a plant based diet myself and also wonder why I didn't know about this before as it's so simple, but like most people I was hooked on meat and dairy and believed what the various industries told me...We all live and learn and will now hopefully live a longer and happier life :)
@JCKay
@JCKay 7 жыл бұрын
markdotcomau well guess what? All those years and years of trying to be low carb and essentially high fat to control my blood sugars and weight did nothing for me (I always had elevated liver functions, even though I do not drink alcohol, so basically it was fatty liver. I also had insulin resistance and was on diabetic medication for it and PCOS). So, yesterday I got my new blood test results back, and after being plant based now for a year, my insulin resistance is GONE, I'm not on any meds, and for the first time in over 15 years, my liver functions are perfect!! The doctor was so pleased and proud, and he said it was my plant based diet that did this and reversed my fatty liver disease! Even when I lost a lot of weight in my 20s on a low carb diet, my liver functions were still elevated! I'm no where near my ideal weight now, but the blood tests show better health! Incredible.

I almost went keto. I checked out a keto cookbook from the library to see if it was something I could do. A bunch of the recipes called to bread chicken strips in pork rinds. That was what killed it for me. There's no way on earth pork rinds are healthier than while what bread or an apple. I found Dr. McDougall soon after, thank goodness!

This whole confusion about low carb or high carb gets resolved for me by looking at the age of the people advocating these various positions. In 2 days I will be 56, I don’t look to some younger whipper snappers like Daniel Vitalis or David Wolfe to tell me how to achieve longevity and health. I look to studies and I look for people older than me who appear to be functioning well. Caldwell Esselstyn is near 80 and has the studies to show that what he is advocating works. McDougall is 67 and for his age looks very good as well and is pretty much advocating the same thing. I work at a place, The Omega Institute, where I see zillions of young healthy people eating any number of different ways all the way up to their late 40’s. Once one hits 50 or so problems start to rear their heads unless one has incredible genetics. I want to see Perlmutter and Grain Belly doctors with all the people they put on their plan who 5 and 10 and 20 years later are free of cardiovascular disease.Show me their studies and research. Ain’t gonna happen

dr mcdougall is a lovely man and has made such a positive impact on the world with his ideas and his nice simple diet. While I've realized after 2 plus years on the McD plan that perhaps his diet is not the highest level of nutritional excellence, its a GREAT way to get started on vegan diet. Now I aim to consume a lot more greens, beans, raw, make green smoothies and even a few supplements and I feel even better, but if not for McD, I never would have gone plant based so I am always indebted to McDougall for his simple, clear message

Had to comment since you had the same experience that I did. Even the timing is in sync. His diet certainly removes all the bad stuff - meat, dairy, sugar and heavily processed foods. Not quite sure why he hasn't emphasized the high antioxidant food. One thought I have had is that He wants people to eat food that is higher calorie content in order to feed a growing world population.

John had a great and rich life with a great family and friends, even if he as a young adult suffered some injuries. He was able to turn things around and prolonged his life a lot due to healthy foods. It’s not how many years you live, it’s the life quality and health during the years that you get that is the only thing that counts. Here John is a winner. Living another 10 or 20 years with poor health is not an option

I too believe Dr McDougall is not at his best (worn out) in this video. He is pushing himself too hard in his fight against the meat, dairy, and pharmacutical industries. I am on board and would really appreciate having subtitles for non-English speaking folks outside of the US. Attaching email response sent re: this video: One suggestion: I just played the video through KZbin and was able to generate English subtitles. I don't need them, but here in Brazil where I spend most of the year I have spoken to a lot of people here and they are in need of these videos with subtitles for greater understanding of plant-based diets. Veganism is increasing here, but plant-based diets are 99.99% unknown. For many, the English subtitles will not help them, but having subtitles available in Spanish will facilitate understanding for most Brazilians who can easily read and understand Spanish, a first cousin of Portuguese. As mentioned, the great majority of people here are unaware of the benefits of plant-based nutrition and I for one would be thankful and as a means of sharing the knowledge. Thank you for your consideration,

I was a tired child all my life, no energy even to make friends, but I had no real illness. I did the Candida diet which eliminates all grains. At the age of 27 for the first the clouds parted. I could think for the first time, my mind just got clear, I didn't need to nap every day and my personality started to shine. But I went back to grains after about 2 weeks and the clouds came back. I had no discipline to eat the way I needed to eat. Then about 10 years later I did the raw food diet at age 37 which was even more incredible. Again the clouds parted, a very bad back injury became painfree, all my body limbered up, I had the sharp mind and personality strong again and an interest in people and energy to connect with them. I showed others the raw food diet and saw miracles of healing, well-being and many good things. Grain-Brain and Wheat Belly are two of my favorite books. Maybe the problem is the hybridization. I also crash from rice.

Thank you Dr. McDougall for a very fine explanation about what is right in the current health battles. I hope most people are not criticizing you as I see in the comments on youtube. You look wonderful for your age and show the peak of health in that you can spend more than an hour discussing what works and doesn't work when it comes to diet. Obesity and heart disease killed my father, his father, his father's sister and his brother. I wish I could of helped them change from a high protein plus high sugar diet. Thank you that I do not have to fear what I saw them go through.

I no longer have high blood pressure (a normal pressure for me was 220/115). I suffered terribly from severe edema and type II diabetes. My swelling is gone, I no longer take high blood pressure medication and had to stop taking my diabetes medication because I went into diabetic shock. I could only walk for a few minutes before I was out of breath and had angina. I wish I had learned of this diet years ago; it would have vastly improved the quality of my life which at the time was filled with excruciating pain.
