Hey, Dr, we say nouns,verbs,adjectives and so on are lexical words and prepositions,conjunctions, articles are functional words, but here you claim that word semantics is equal lexical semantics, is it meant that word=lexical? If it’s so, there is a problem which is functional words are equivalent of functional lexicons. Logically, it’s confused to me. How can I process this problem of definition of words and the difference between lexical words and functional words. I read some definitions about word which is the smallest meaningful language unit that can be used independently but the prepositions can not be used lonely but why we still name them words? I have been confused about this for a long long time, and I am dying to receive your response! Thanks.

Very informative. But how can the sense of a thing be stable. Let's take "dog" for example. I am only familiar with Terriers, which are dogs, forming the "sense" of what a dog is like. But then i see a Chihuahua for the first time, which is also a dog. This necessitates a change of the sense of what a dog is to accommodate the new information. Am I missing or misunderstanding something?

Sir how "sense" is stable? If reference gets change then automatically sense also gets change and thus is unstable!! Sir...Please explain

Love your explanation thank you. Can you please tell me what is the difference between an equative sentence and a generic sentence?
@khalid-salah-salem
@khalid-salah-salem 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, generic sentences are usually said as if (general) opinion or widely known fact. Sometimes using present simple to show a fact, yet can be highly manipulative. Most proverbs are generic sentences. Equative sentences assert that two or more references have the same referant. God knows best though
