CineChopper Drone University I'm sure that took guts to post! How much did it cost to rebuild? Are you still using big custom rigs or are the cheaper DJI rigs sufficient these days?

Cost $1500 in parts and $500 to fix the Canon 16-35mm. I use the ALTA and DJI rigs these days.

That's not too terrible. Can't image what you felt as it was tumbling. Gotta love DJI :)

How close that rig got to completely wiping out the belayer was so intense. If he would have gotten taken out and the climber would have slipped it looks like people could have gotten seriously hurt. Glad that it turned out ok for everyone involved. Great footage for everyone to learn big lessons from.

That's nuts, man! I always worry about this and my drone costs only a fraction of what you crashed here...I would have been balling if I had crashed a $15K drone lol.

Thanks for sharing this, I think you have inspired me to share my worst crash in the near future... 👍 I also made a really poor choice that lead to a new copter, lol.

Always keep your batteries in a pocket or pouch next to your body when working in cold weather. This is good practice for any photographer and batteries. The batteries don't need any special amount of heating, they just need to be kept "warm". But dang. Tough lesson learned.

this makes me so nervous because I just flew My p3 in -8 and it kept giving me warnings about cold batteries but I kinda ignored it. I'm really lucky to have not crashed I guess!

Yikes! Way to keep it together after that fall Chris. Many people might have had a bit of a meltdown after an expensive accident like that.

A lot of the new software and hardware don't allow your engines to start when your drone batteries are below a certain temperature… I'm so sorry this happened…

Living here in the Canadian Rockies haven't even tried in my almost 4 years flying in cold weather. I'll let you do the cold weather stuff ;)

Can looks and seen silly but next time to avoid colder batteries just use a cooler bag with some pre-heated water bottles and transport/hike the batteries warm until the location, maybe you know that... but I'm just remembering a good way to fight the cold weather.

If your teeth can scream. I feel your pain man. I crashed my cheap toy Drone and broke it showing off to my dad on is first flight and it stung. I imagine seeing your family lively good going down the drain in that crash. I suggest hand warmers for batteries. Lol. Hope to join your CineChopper School soon.
