Here in SW Phoenix you can count on ambient temps being above 105 degrees F or higher daily all summer. This summer has been warmer for sure, we are enjoying temps of 110-122. I fly in the desert often, so I keep a frozen cooler pack in my drone hard case, to keep the batteries cool and to help the cool down after I'm done. One thing I do is the day before I fly I start drinking electrolyte drinks that night. I also drink them on the day I fly and I have noticed I function better and I don't feel wrecked afterwards from dehydration. I follow the rule I learned in the military and force myself to drink 12-16 oz. of fluid every hour (Min). There are a couple of signs you can look for to prevent heat exhaustion/heat stroke. If you stop urinating and or your urine is cloudy or dark can be good indications you are becoming dehydrated.

@@stephensteger374 I have a Mini 3, and normally will fly in the mornings, late afternoon, or after dark when it's not too bad. The heat for sure affects the flight time, but I have not had any issues with swelling batteries or any flight issues. I try to keep the drone moving to provide some airflow but it still gets pretty warm upon return. I also keep a freezer pack in the bottom of my hard case to help cool things down after a flight. I don't let things get too cool as I fear there could be condensation from breaking out a cold battery into the intense heat. I normally blow out the drone body and motors with compressed air to clear any dust etc.

I believe you have missed an important safety aspect concerning density altitude.Heat and humidity are the nain drivers in this condition.Higher density altitude affects not only winged aircraft , but drones as well.More power required at higher altitude. Altitude of my area is aprox.3000 ft (900m) above sea level.Density altitude has been at 6000 ft.plus on some days.As responsible pilots I believe we need to acknowledge ALL environmental effects on our aircraft.

I'm out flying every day here in South Central Texas for work. I mostly fly 7am-1pm. But I sit in the passenger side of my SUV while my wife drives power pole to power pole, keeping my drone within VLOS. I also like the Portable fans

As aways, great job explaining the overheating issues and the smoke & fog related issues. I have gotten suprised by fog and quickly moving cloud but I have never had it attempt to land. It did however report low vision when the sneaky cloud blew in, As soon as I saw the flow coming into my lens, I swooped my Mavic 3 Cine into sports mode and shot like a rocket to get back to my home point. I love the idea of that personal cooling unit. Living and droning in Florida or just working around home can take a lot of the fun out of flying and enjoying your yard.. I checked out your store and some of my favorite products which I also ended up purchasing are the Firehouse Lights which I found were the brightest on the market with most reliability as well as my number one most favorite is the DJI Mic 2. The noise cancelation is amazing. I use it both professionally for video productions as well as for doing live drone streaming and just to capture some of my testing.

I fly on hot days and don't seem to have a problem but the sun can play tricks on your eyes also and heat exhaustion is a very real thing and it can ruin your day and your weekend. Russ. I live in SE Florida and we are having a very hot summer. I make it a habit to check my battery temp at least once every flight after about 5 minutes. I know my Air3 normal battery temps and will either fly around if I been hovering in one spot for a while or actually return to home to be cautious. During days with exessive heat index, I also will let the drone motors cool off before popping in a new battery. I have purchase the Air3, Freewell ND filter, Firehouse Strobe and the Power 500 on your recommendations. Now looking at the Coolify for my wife being she runs daily in the heat. Russ, thanks for sharing the Coolix personal ac. Although my wife grew up here in Florida, she hates the double-whammy of heat and humidity. Thus getting her to fly drones with me is often challenging. I was unaware of even the existence of this gadget. As to your store, I find the target Tee the most attractive. Perhaps you can add this gizmo to your offerings. I love flying my drones, and I love doing things with my wife and best friend for almost 50 years, and being able to combine these in our nearly always hot days of late, would be wonderful. I bail out of the extreme hot conditions long before it is hot enough to have any negative impact on my Air 3. Just too old to torture myself in the 100 degree temps with the humidity in the 50-60% range as well. Definitely a fair weather flyer!

I love the Symik drone landing pad. One thing to keep in mind about the heat is that most temperature readings are taken in the shade. So if you're in the Phoenix area on a July day and it's 114°, the real temp in the sun will be much higher. It will get to you fast no matter what shape you're in!

The charging docking station looks like a must - have. I can only fly at sunrise because of the extreme heat in the Imperial Valley El Centro CA . Personal air conditioning could be a game changer out here in the 150 feet below sea level desert .

I fly for my local electric provider in the Mohave Valley region in Arizona. Our normal average summer temp is about 114*F daily. Evening temps do not drop below 90 degrees May - August. Rule #1 of desert living: Never go anywhere without some form of hydration even if it is for 15 minutes. Though it is possible to fly UAVs in this heat, I do not recommend it. There are too many potential issues that can arise just from extreme temperatures. I have had even the best of DJI UAVs fall out of the sky due to overheating. From a business standpoint, it is not worth the liability/risk.

In addition to flying VLOS and just as important is NOT flying, if you don't have 3 statute miles of visibility. In most of the situations you described, you wouldn't leave the ground because of this. Great Video as always Russ. 👍🏽
