This is one of the most useful videos I've seen on the interwebs in a long time. I just picked up an old design Yuneec 920+, which are being dumped on the market right now. It's a little fiddley, especially in the battery area, but with one of their cameras, it looks like it would be perfect for part of this.

Currently a telecom site foreman. Interested in getting my own drone license as I’ve used drones on my own to inspect towers I don’t want/need to climb. They offer great photos that are sometimes unavailable without a drone. Great video!

Nice work as always Aaron. Technically you’d only need the H20 camera for LOS work, given that the thermal (H20T) version is an extra $9000.

Many years ago I used to have to manually plot path profiles using a stack of topographical maps and graph paper, how times have changed. Do you find that the drones have difficulties trying to operate in the radiation hot zone when circling cell towers? Great video by the way.
@UAVISUALS

Wow! How times have changed. Not much interference using an RTK system and a new drone like the M300 but there are times if you get in the direct path of the dishes it does interfere a little!

Cool, but don`t they use radio planning SW with a help of digital maps? when you have a digital map you can define the LOS for microwave link? Other things like actually 4G and 5G do not require LOS. Of course the minimum height can save lots of money as the lower the tower - the cheaper it is.

Are the height measurements from drone apps accurate enough to complete LoS work? The drone apps are sometimes out by 1-3 meters.
@northernmonkeyx4889
@northernmonkeyx4889 2 жыл бұрын
Hey tim, im sure you know this answer by now but using the M300 with H20 you use the laser range finder to confim height from ground, accurate to 100mm.

@@kizzjd9578 That’s why it’s preferable to invest with your own budget. Then practice a lot as possible to master your tool (drone). Regarding clientele, working for more cheaper will help you to get more experience meanwhile you’ll be building a more attractive portfolio which will keep interested bigger firms in the field. With time and experience you’ve earned with projects you’ve realized, you can easily increase the price your facture to your customers. One thing to add, telecom is not the only field in the drone industry and u don’t absolutely need a $30,000 to get started in the game. That’s why we have cheaper and smaller drone. Coz don’t forget that u have to make profits!

Great content as ever! I have a couple of questions. Is there any research on the proportions of in-house drone teams as opposed to independent operators within the sector and how that is broken down by size of telecom organisation. So is there an entry cutoff point depending on the size of the company?
@UAVISUALS
@UAVISUALS 2 жыл бұрын
We have noticed a few more businesses doing it in-house now but they don't tend to last long as: a) pilots are usually thrown in the role, b) staff turnover is high c) contracting a specialised drone operator yields better results usually... 😉

This is an old video 😁 best solution for lights for LOS would be a 3rd party hunting torch strapped to the drone or the z15 or dji spotlight attachments. Happy hunting!

Interesting, great informative videos, but, these Telcom and power companies have deep pockets and virtually unlimited resources. The question is : When they can buy all their own equipment, and the best equipment, train their own people, why would they contract an outside company to do these inspections. Could they not do it cheaper by having their own department that does the inspections, especially when they can pay employees doing inspections $12 - $20/hour? In the U.S. it's all about cheaping out. This is what keeps me from investing big and getting into inspections and the areas your company does in Australia. Let's see if they bother to answer my question.
@the_black_eagle1642
@the_black_eagle1642 2 жыл бұрын
It’s always depends on how you do things personally as the business owner... How you negotiate contracts. But one thing sure: They will be always companies which will need outside companies for special and deep inspections. They will be always a market share for you in your area. It’s all about entrepreneurial skills and networking.
