"Suspicious" is a matter of perspective and you're entitled to your opinions but you are NOT entitled to ask questions of someone who has NOT committed any crime. Get over yourself. You are Law Enforcement and have NO RIGHT to confront anyone who hasn't broken a law.
@mikebergman18175 жыл бұрын
Galan Fink fair enough. I wrote that right after finding out that laws have been passed that prevent me from doing what I love to do, which is fly model aircraft. Watching people act childish after flying like an asshole makes me wonder how many of these people are actually hobbyists, or if they acquired a drone and feel like they can push buttons because “it’s not me doing it, it’s the flying robot man.” It’s these non-hobbyists who disrespected and pissed people off to the point that now us guys who have been in the hobby for 25+ years are heavily restricted to the point where 90% of our aircraft are now grounded. I care about the rights we have as Americans, (even the right to remain silent) but now that we’re limited to small toy sized aircraft, all these guys who just HAD to push the boundaries and push buttons for a laugh are now happily on to the next thing to stifle their boredom..unaffected by the consequences. It’s always some asshole who is after a cheap thrill, not thinking of anyone else but themselves, who ends up ruining a good thing for the rest of us. He wasn’t breaking any laws in the video, but due to that shit, if he tried the same thing today, he’d be breaking laws. So, back then he didn’t have to give his name for what he was doing. Today he’d have to give his name, and it would be grounds for prosecution. I’d say he didn’t choose his battle wisely, but he’s probably happy hanging that phantom from his garage rafters and playing video games instead.

I am a recreational flyer and I live in a rural area in NW Pa. 95% of my flights are out of my yard. An incident occurred on September 3, 2023 and the PA State police now have my Air 2S. I was filming a hyper lapse video of the sunset when I received a critical battery error (my own stupidity) and the drone made an emergency landing about 400 meters from home. I could see that it had landed on a neighbors property and waited until the next morning to go there and ask permission to search. When I did they told me that they had found it and called the police who came and took the drone. I was happy to hear that it was found and figured that all I needed to do was call, explain what happened, and go retrieve it from them. I made that call on September 4 and was told that the officer involved would have to call me back. I waited a few days without hearing a word then he finally contacted me. He informed me that I wouldn't be getting the drone back soon if at all because there had been other complaints, about drone flyers in my neighborhood. I explained that I could easily prove that there was no malicious intent on my part by showing him the flight logs. I also told him that everything I filmed would be on the memory card in the drone and, if he removed the battery, he would find a sticker with my name, address and phone number on it. He didn't want to hear that though and was very arrogant and downright rude when he told me that he was gathering everyone in the area who had complained and they were taking me to court. When I inquired about a timeline he said that he couldn't even start the 'investigation' until he gets off of 3rd shift. Its been a month and he still has not started the investigation. Since then I've done some research and found that civil forfeiture laws exist that allow them to keep property indefinitely even if there is never an arrest. UPDATE I received a call from Trooper Lewis of the PSP today (12/10/23) and he informed me that he would be filing 'unlawful use of an unmanned aircraft ' and also 'disorderly conduct ' charges against me. The disorderly conduct charge really blows my mind. When I asked him about it he said it was because 2 other officers had visited me with warnings. Those officers never issued any warning either written or verbal. Unfortunately with my wife battling breast cancer and heart problems and with both of us being retired on a fixed income the money won't be there to hire a lawyer and fight this and my income will keep me from getting legal assistance.

I hope everything works out for you and your wife. This story made me very sad😢.
@skidrose60679 ай бұрын
@@sonofadog8691 ... thank you, my wife is doing well after suffering a heart attack the day after Christmas. She had a quadruple bypass on Jan 2 but has been recovering nicely since. I was officially charged with 4 counts of 'unlawful use of a 'MANNED' aircraft (yes I said manned) to conduct surveillance and 1 count of disorderly conduct/physical. I had a pre-lim on Jan 29 but the judge issued a continuance because one of the so called victims has covid and also they forgot to subpoena the second cop. I remain frustrated because I still can not get anyone to consider my flight records. This would have proved my innocence and stopped this waste of time and taxpayers dollars from the start.

Maybe but the satellites do it from space? What's the real difference. If a private citizen with money launched there own satellites and basically had a 24 hour life feed of that parking lot from space how would that be different beside the obvious cost difference. It is because they know it's happening? Or that it can be done by anyone? What's the real issue? What if he walked across the street and films from the top of a building? Are they say the light reflecting off there restricted access space is owned by them?? Are birds in violation when they fly over? Obviously these are extreme arguments but still just because someone can see over a dense doesn't mean they are breaking the law
@beninua5 жыл бұрын
Doesn't that right cover private citizens right to privacy. Police Officers have a job with no expectancy of privacy - they are PUBLIC servants. They can and should not expect privacy. The people's eyes are what keeps them from committing more crimes than they do.

People, PLEASE, when a cop approaches you respectfully and kindly, it is so important that we return that respect and kindness. It IS possible to exercise your rights and even practice peaceful protest and decline to show ID or provide your name (if you are not suspect of a crime) while remaining kind and respectful to the officer. And if one cop should happen to defend and protect your rights, or stop another cop from harassing you, it is in your best interest to say “Thank you”. These moments are rare, so they must be handled properly. It is in these moments that we have an opportunity to acknowledge and foster the human connection. When people are kind to each other it establishes a bond. If you act like a dick, or self righteous when a cop is being compassionate, you fuck it up for everyone else by not welcoming and seeding that bond. To all cops and to all public citizens: please be kind to each other and welcome and appreciate that kindness when it is presented to you. Of course, some cops will not always be so kind, and will likely try to intimidate and exercise their assumed control over you, especially if you are acting superior, and often even if you are not. It is natural to be defensive in this situation. But it is more important to be 100% confident, direct and professional. The only way to do that effectively is to educate yourself, and decide for yourself ahead of time how much your freedom means to you. Freedom does not mean being free. It means being free to consider the consequences of your actions and choose which path you will take from the options available to you. If you choose to stand your ground because you have the right to do so, you must be prepared to be arrested (even if it is unlawful) for resisting, or non compliance, or preventing an officer to do their job or whatever they want to claim. If you resist, then in your mind accept that you have chosen to endure the consequences. Keep calm. And dont say anything. But be proactive before you get in that situation, by educating yourself now. Be the change.
@galanfink40285 жыл бұрын
When a 'cop' (respect?) approaches you, they do not have authority to interrupt you as a pilot. By doing so, they are violating Federal Law in that they are interfering with a pilot during a flight. Tell them NOT to disrupt you while flying and wait until you land if they have any questions. The FAA has severe penalties for ANYONE who intentionally interferes with the operation of aircraft (manned or unmanned).

Some of it is cringeworthy, but there is a point to be learned from this. Police routinely ask for more information than they are entitled to as a matter of policy. Secondly, they routinely lie to citizens about what the laws are. We all just sheepishly do whatever they say or go along with everything they set up thinking we have to. I have no interest in messing with them proactively, but it is interesting to see how often they BS us and how much they demand that they have no basis in the law to demand.

If anything, the pilot is a provocateur attempting to force regulatory action at a time when FAA had not quite caught up with DJI.

Totally wrong flying in towns and park's with people near by and trying to confront the police only makes it worse for everyone else .

@ConnorEtch8 жыл бұрын
Quite a lot of places just search for it in your local area. I know certain parks around my area of areas where rc places will be around, mostly because it's an unused area anyways. Been flying for years there. Most lakes are also unused in my local area is rc boating is fine. Rc cars we just go to beaches and other unused places. e.g parks.

Those would be nice, probably be arrested for pedophilia if you fly one at the park. Cops are, and should be record-able figures 24-7.

on the note cops don't have to be rude, really civilians don't have to be so sensitive and winey. understand officer have alot to handle daily, take risk regular people avoid, and never know if someone is gonna turn on them or be polite. remember that 90% of them just want address the problem, and leave. being short with you isn't a reason to be jerks. and also no one like to be micro managed by people who don't actually understand their job. so before you "hold them accountable" consider who you are to do so and who's holding you accountable.

+TheBo0mer yeah and it's real easy to say the cop was wrong when the video only shows half the story. sure they're are bad cops. but if we can spout noallmuslims then it stand to reason, more so, notallcops. again, who are you to decide whether they are in the wrong or not when you don't know anything about them. again, useing a cops short demeanor as reason to be hateful is an excuse. calling a legitimate reason for being brief and excuse is blatantly ignorant. how about turning the other cheek and killing them with kindness. if your so easily provoked how can you expect an officer not meet you with contemt
@charmcaster328 жыл бұрын
+TheBo0mer well first of all, you don't seem to understand speak generally or hypothetically. however you are driving home the overly sensitive part. frankly "retort" is a cop-out and no pun intended. it just a tedious form of saying "whatever, you're not worth my time, or I'm better than this"

Also it goes without saying I think to most anyway, you don't keep cops 'accountable' when you don't even know the law as well as they do. How would you like if THEY were at your job keeping you accountable with cameras flying over you - or hell just some group of people you don't know? Don't give me the 'public servant' crap. It doesn't make them your slaves.

As what would be the result if some nut job plans a attack upon the filming of PDs n daily use there of. Come on guys, please respect people regardless if they have a badge. As this specific gentleman n his actions are what has brought a unfavorable impact upon all rc n drone flyers alike. Freedom of use should come with common sense folks. Ty
