Been surfing most of my life but always felt the drop knee stance is the best and most stylish looking stance in all wave riding.

Feast is a absolute ripper. Seen him do the biggest floater at Boodji I’ve seen handled on a boog. Then was pretty nonchalant about it when I mentioned it to him on the beach.

I shattered my knee 4 years ago hitting the reef very hard. I had to learn how to walk again on crutches for 2 months. Now I am 100 percent. Never should not be in your vocabulary. Believe in yourself and you can focus and achieve.

What a fab and wonderfully informal conversational video. I have never tried DK but the value of this video for me was the simple statement of preparing mentally for getting smashed and training on shore. This resonated so much for a relative beginner. It's the difference between a bad day and never going back in to parking the set back and getting right back on the horse..with enough energy and strength to keep going.

Glad you enjoyed the video and that you took something away from it. Keep on charging those waves Tara!

I had all those bodyboarding pages on my bedroom walls as a poster in the 90s. Fu Manchu was and still is my all time favorite dk video.

I work with a local shaper in Hawaii Blake Arakawa. Dude makes the sickest boards. My next board will be a big wave DK board. I want to add these weighted stringers to the board. Am thinking single stringer down the center. Where do you get these weighted stringers? Where do you place them? I found some 1' long lead rods on amazon. They come in different diameters. No info on the weight of these but I assume each rod is around 1 lb So adding 2 rods would increase the weight of the board by 2 lbs.

Very cool! I'm sure Blake you shaper will be able to help you with you find some weighted stringers. ✌- Alex

Experiment with wider stringer placement so the stringer runs underneath your knee placement. It'll mean the stringer will angle inwards slightly to the nose to fit in the board but having it directly under the knee prevents too much bending. Gives the board a straighter faster rail line. So many of my early boards died after developing too much flex at the knee position.

Your knee shouldn’t be on the nose? Have you tried switching stance?

Grab some nice short fins. I ride with a MS VIPER on the front foot with the point cut off and a long fin on the back foot (YUCCA) for traction in the wave face. Best combo I've found

Keep on trying, muscle memory has a lot to do with it. If you are persistent you will get it 😉

get your board in the living room or anywhere on land and practice getting into position over and over again. do it without flippers to start, then add the flippers. once you are in position, do some visualising as if you are on a wave riding, the idea is to get comfortable in the position. It will help massively when you try and do it in the ocean whilst moving.
