In this 4-part series, I will show you how I build a round drop-leaf table. The table is mid-century inspired with a beveled top and tapered legs. The first two videos show how I build the top and the last two videos focus on the base.
Part 1 is gluing together boards and cutting a circle table top.

The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.

If you don't have enough claps you can make some temporary ones using some lengths of 2×4" and some scraps. Screw a square of 2×4" to one end of each "clamp". Place the wood to be clamped onto the 2×4" clamps and slide it all up to the block that's screwed to the ends. Leaving a gap of an inch or 2, screw another block yo the long 2×4"s. Make 2 wedges gor each "clamp". These will be placed, with an overlap, in the gap between the 2nd block and the boards to be glued. Cover the clamps with anything that will stop your clamps from being glues to your project. Add glue, drop the wedges in the gap and hammer them towards each other. This will actually create a surprising amount of force and can also be tailored to any project size. Remember to put clamps on both sides of your project if it starts bowing in the middle due to clamping pressure. I hope this helps in the future 🙂

the leg is well-designed, not particularly difficult to make but looks great

Hi Nancy, I love your design for the leg assembly. Just a question about the joints. Why not carve the area where there are curves? Wouldn't it look better with no transition lines that later you filled in with wood filler? By leaving one end of the leg where the curve is, you could have carved it into the shape you want, then using either cabinet makers planes, (they are also called finger planes) or curved cabinet scrapers you get a nice smooth finish that keeps sanding to a minimum. It just seemed that you were being impatient with that area -by the looks of the finish piece you glued onto the legs. One thing you have to practice is patience when woodworking or you will make more mistakes than necessary and an end product looking pretty inferior. Your talented and creative, you just need to take your time. I look forward to further videos.~Dolly

Joint broke apart because it was a starved glue joint. Apply glue to both sides, all of the edges, your glue joint was the worst I ever seem. I'm being serious, glue joints should be stronger than the wood. If you don't have a jointer, after running one side through the table saw, flip it around and get the other. Your hand planning technique needs some work. GOOD LUCK, PS, You shouldn't have to put a ton of clamp pressure on any glue joint for it to close. 👍👍. Vinny 🇺🇸
