In this video, we visit the amazing Drop Redoubt at Western Heights in Dover. This is one of England's Hidden Forts, and in this exclusive video we take you inside. We were fortunate enough to be invited inside the Drop Redoubt by the volunteers who were working, to be given a tour whilst the fort was empty and dark. In this video, we tell you the history behind this amazing Victorian building, delve into its incredible role in World War 2, and also show you around in a detailed tour. Good video. Brings back loads of memories. I used to leave near Dover fort as a child (near the Clarendon area) in the 80s and 90s and used to play in the fort all the time, clambering all over the wonky bridges, climbing the walls to get in the windows and playing on the roof area. We also used to play in the grand staircase and traverse the bridge nearby to get in the Drop (we did this by climbing over the side of the bridge and shimmying towards the wall of the drop and then scrambling up over the barbed wire - I often wonder how we didn’t slip and die lol). Sometimes we’d camp out over night inside. It was so much fun. It would be interesting to go back and see it again as an adult. I’m glad it’s being preserved.

No, it's not. Look up your history of Dover. The fortifications on both eastern and western heights of Dover (excluding the castle) were built to counter the perceived threat of an invasion in Napoleonic times.
