@John Tremblay You do not have to be retired to work less hours. I can use my dad as an example. I barely saw him when I was younger since he was always traveling and working, however, now that he sold his sugar factories worth almost 1 billion dollars, I see him everyday. After he sold his company he still did not retire, he started hotels, pharmacies and car rentals. He goes to work 4 days a week and takes 3 days free (of course he has to take calls in his free time once in a while but he doesn't work like crazy). So my point is money does buy freedom.

That's not always true. Like he said, money amplifies the kind of person you are and how you give back to the world (whether it is treasure or trash). He wasn't arrogant, conceited, boastful, or dismissive of anyone. The gentleman has high emotional intelligence and is very wise. They can afford therapy and other wellness services, and they have the time (if they choose to use it) to better themselves outside of their work. I work delivering pizzas for a living in a very conservative upper-middle to upper-class area, and one thing that I've learned is that you can (usually) almost immediately tell how well someone is going to tip by the size and elaborateness of their house. Many of the neighborhoods are fairly exclusive in what income level is able to live there based on location, scenery and the size/style of the properties. There's one family that I deliver to quite regularly consisting of 2 adults and 5 children. They live in a large but simple house on a decent-sized lot, and I don't think I've ever received a tip under $7 from them despite their order usually being around $30 including tax and delivery fee. On the other hand, there was one gentleman that I delivered to who lived in a very elaborate home situated on the side of a mountain with a view of the river, with Romanesque pillars along the front and a driveway that wrapped around a large fountain in the front yard. This gentleman wrote in a tip for 47 cents on a nearly $50 order. Now, I bring this up not because I expect people to tip well just because they're wealthy, but to emphasize the point that wealth just amplifies who you are as a person. I'm very appreciative of the family who tips well and orders often, because I know that they understand that not everyone has been as fortunate financially and they seem to be very kind people (their daughter hugged me and thanked me for bringing them pizza the first time I delivered to them), where the gentleman who wrote in a 47 cent tip folded the receipt in half and tucked it under the clip of my pen before handing it back to me with a smile, almost as though he got a kick out of doing something that he knew was insulting. I chose not to take his tip when cashing out at the end of the night.

LTiCicle I live in a “fair wage” state, meaning employers cannot pay tipped workers below minimum wage. Tipping is still customary because someone is providing a service that you could be doing yourself (I.e. bring your food to you rather than you going to get it), and so for waiters/waitresses they’re assumed to receive a 10% tip at most places, which they need to pay taxes on, and so they lose part of their wages if the person doesn’t tip. In the case of delivery drivers, they have to use their own personal vehicles to make the deliveries and are only compensated for gas, so tips help for maintenance, higher insurance rates and to make up for the exacerbated depreciation of the vehicle. That’s not to say that I agree with this system, I’m just explaining how it works.

Mike is the personal brand type (charisma, negotiation, persuasion) whereas the guy that craves more and more strikes me as a tycoon type (infinite ambition, workaholic, satisfaction from achievement and building). I don't want to knock the guy but he strikes me as someone that worked hard and got lucky. Luck (as in opportunities for success rather than making success happen) plays such a large role in success as well. He probably spends and saves very wisely and rules his small business(es) with an iron fist. The other guys stand out to me because they have the pieces you need for mega-wealth. That's just my opinion, of course.

S D To be honest, some of us don't see the "reason" as to why we would want to be rich in the first place. Making it to middle class? Yes. But rich? I don't know. I can see that it would make things significantly easier in a lot of ways, but there is an inner element that doesn't quite add up sometimes. Its kind of an existential thing. What would I even do with my money if I was super rich? I don't know. As a kid, I was raised "poor" by American standards. We literally lived in a kitchen at one point and almost ended up on the street. I couldn't keep up with my schoolmates in regards to toys, videogames etc...because we couldn't afford that stuff. It kinda sucked. But I don't look back at my childhood like it was a horrible time because of that. I was more concerned with making friends and not being lonely than anything else. People in my family feel deep regret because they didn't provide for us as much as they thought they should have. But I wish they wouldn't feel bad about it. I honestly feel like I would have been a bad kid if I was raised with money. I make some money now, and I save the shit out of it. But I often ask "what am I saving for?"

Say you want to get into college for a degree in legal studies so you can go to law school so you can become an immigration lawyer. You’re not afraid of the difficulty or how much stress you’ll be under because you know you can endure because you want that goal. Only problem is you’re flat broke. So you look for the cheapest possible colleges. Not even enough money to attend for a year, let alone money for food and transportation. So you look for a job, you’ve been looking for an entire year since you’ve graduated high school and you haven’t found anything stable yet. And the little that you do get doesn’t even make a scratch on the surface of your savings pile. You look tirelessly day and night but since you live in the ass end of nowhere, there is nothing for miles. And the jobs you do find aren’t even enough for gas. You have no friends that are willing to help and you’re family is just as broke as you. Not that it matters anyway since you never ask for help and want to do this on your own. You’ve already given up on one dream. But I guess that isn’t true since you still train every morning like you have been doing for the past 3 years. Not like it matters anyway. There’s no boxing clubs or gyms around here anyway. You’ve been making due with your own equipment that’s been given as a gift or passed down. All you want is the chance, you feel ready, but you’re not. You don’t even have a trainer. You want to ask your father but he’s struggling with too many things already so you don’t want to be a hinderance. But you don’t have any money so you can’t afford a trainer. Doesn’t matter since there aren’t any around here anyway so your dad is your only hope. Luckily you wouldn’t want anyone else since the old man was a sight to behold back in the day. When he stepped into the ring, you knew you were in for a show. It wasn’t a big arena and he was never on tv but he brought home trophies and you’d ask him about them growing up. It’s in your blood, you know you can go big. But you have no money. So you want to be an immigration lawyer but you also want to be what you’ve wanted to be since you were a kid. A professional boxer. Too bad you don’t have money or you’d already be down one of these roads. Instead you just look for any opportunity to make any kind of money and watch as time passes you by.

Let me share my mother's story: My mom lived in poverty that her family just eat one time a day or twice. She had nine siblings and her mother was selling foods on the street while her father was an electrician. My mom was forced to get an early job because she was the eldest. She always dreamed to be a doctor but she didn't had enough money to pay fees. So she became a teacher instead. After tears were shed and sleeps that were sacrificed. She worked hard, that she even rarely see us. Few year came and she became an oustanding principle and now she had cars, houses, loving husband and me and my brother. She was a fighter and very ambitious, that made her go far. I'm proud of her, she went to 100 from 0. Now, she's getting a doctoral degree. I will not inherited her money. It was hers not mine. I will make my own. My dad has the same story with her but my dad was not an ambitious person, so he never came far. He was satisfied for where he was.

Working hard doesn't equal rich. You can work hard earning money and still be poor. I did not mean challenge them as a person simply for having wealth. I meant challenging the stereotypes of being rich. It seemed like the rich discussed those problems with the other rich. With the exception of 4:40 where the rich had to bring the poor into the discussion with a question. She looked scared to talk her truth. I just thought the confidence between the two sides was an interesting contrast. And I simply wish the poor spoke up more on their point of view. Moses King Being able to work hard is a privilege in itself. As a disabled person I'm unable to work a traditional job. I do work hard but it won't be enough to ever be able to live on - simply because I spend much of the day stuck in bed or in agonising pain. The rich can't help that, but they often put it down to purely working hard instead of all the other factors. Going to the right school, having parents who were able to provide a stable loving home, meeting the right people, having a good education, having good health etc. That doesn't mean all those factors are always there, but it certainly helps.

@@jonathanarroyo6319 I don't think you understand how complex billion dollar empires are structured. It's not some bank account that you have. Most billionaires would have 10million in disposable cash but the rest would be tired to assets that aren't as liquid as you would think. Tho to say it's a disadvantage is a complete lie. But there cam be some good things from being born into poverty as for the people who have made it out, there story and journey is so much not interesting and for filling compared to someone who was born into wealth.
