I ve not done a lot of drop shot, but what I have done has been great fun. While I have a small selection of soft plastics similar to what's been shown on the video, I have had more success with smallish garden worms..What i love about drop shot fishing is how little you need to carry....it's also great for kids as they are constantly doing something so don't get bored....

Good video. Your findings are pretty much the same as mine. Having started out with stupidly large hooks I now use curved sedge/buzzer hooks as you do, although my favourites are barbless Czech nymph in size 12 and 14. I've also reduced my fluorocarbon from 8 to 5lb, got cheapie drop shot weights (50 for a tenner) off eBay and loads of soft Lures from China direct at really cheap prices. It's a lovely way to fish, and so versatile for lots of species. Thanks for posting.

good to see a no nonsense vid about drop shotting ..simple and effective ...too many think expensive lures are a must ..im getting most of mine from allen at agm and also china ..make my own drop leads .bought a mould about 3 years back and its defo payed for itself several times over

Great stuff Peter, thanks for sharing. I do the same as you and use shot instead of the purpose made dropshot weights (depth/flow allowing). One thing I have noticed though (when fishing in clear water), is that perch will sometimes home in on the weight /shot if there's any shine or glint to them (generally this happens after the cast as the weight is dropping through the water). I've also had decent perch attacking the weight while playing a fish to the net!

Daniel Smith. Thanks Daniel, when the perch are feeding hard they seem to go for anything the moves 🤔. Have you tried using a permanent marker to camouflage the shot ?

Hi Pete I think your approach is pretty much on point, no pun intended. Keeping it simple definitely works , I do believe that some anglers like to involve themselves with technicalities that sometimes involves stripping a bit more cash from their wallets. I have been guilty of that in the past! However, it’s not necessary to spend a lot to catch lovely little fish. Keep up the good work. Tight lines. Dave

Really liked this video. I've only just started dropshot and jig fishing and was getting a bit overwhelmed with all the gear in the tackle shop and how expensive all the things I thought I needed were adding up to. No problem, try taking along some real worms and fish those on a 14 hook, you should get a mix of fish and maybe find where the perch are hiding . P

Thanks Peter. Just received some size 14 Kamasan B420 hooks from eBay. So much cheaper than when I bought dropshot hooks from AGM. I have currently 10lb braid with 10lb fluorocarbon leader. Do you think that will be ok or should I get lighter flouro ?

Hi John, yes it works for all sorts of species including trout. I have tried it on the any method Hanningfield fishery in Essex with flies and soft plastic baits. Its good fun as you stay mobile and do not have as much kit to carry. P
