Wow Mike what a great video full of information on all the kit you need for drop shot fishing 🎣 I did catch a lovely 3.5 lb Perch on the Grand Union Canal at Berkhamstead but this was a waggler float 3 foot depth on a size 16 hook on red maggot ✅👍🏻 Good luck with your fishing in the future mate 🇬🇧👍🏻

Comprehensive! Great video to get a fantastic overview from. This video really helped me out at Bowscale tarn. I thought I’d get serious with the drop shot due to the depth. It worked! I did okay with a real worm on also!

It isn't that the fish can't see a red hook, it is the colour that they don't see. Below a few feet it will just look like a dark hook. Love your channel, Graeme and mike.

Hi MikeHave just started lure fishing/drop shoting for perch. I went the other day, it was quite cold, small acre large pond supplied by small stream. The foliage was quite sparse at the moment. I blanked after two hours between 2pm and dusk/dark. Using small HTo lures and 1.5" shades. Can it ever be too cold? Any tips appreciated I do find your videos very useful and entertaining. Your old man is a bit of a comedian!! Royal variety show I think but still very informative; both of you.Cheers Dave

the flex in the rod doesn't just make it feel more fun, flex in the rod is the "spring" that provides the travel distance to help keep tension on the hook whilst playing the fish!

Thanks Mike. This is a very timely video for me as I'm about to give this a try. Just need to refresh myself with your dropshot diaries videos. I have a couple of questions however. Are lead weights illegal in rivers? Also do you ever use those worm hooks, the ones with a cranked stem. We were using them in the states and they swear by them because they're weedless when put in right. Many thanks....
@TAFishing9 жыл бұрын
I don't use lead weights in rivers, Only tungsten. There are laws about using lead weights in rivers, it might be to do with the size of the weight you are using but best to ask local tackle shop. As for the hooks, the worm hooks will probably still work fine, I just generally favour a dropshot hook but like I saw, you can use most types of hook really.
@davidharvey56729 жыл бұрын
+TAFishing Thankyou, I expect I'll try it, with the cod not showing up around here due I suspect to the very warm weather I think they'll be off after the sprat shoals soon and pass us bye so better to look to other ways.

Hi Mike l have a Grays Prowla GS Lure 5-15gr and 213cm long also a very,very small DAM Quick Contrast 405 FD reel with 6lb line ( mono ) do you think l can use for dropshoting or is it maybe to light ? thanks for your great vidios .barrie
@TAFishing9 жыл бұрын
Hi Barrie, the rod and reel is fine for dropshotting, you might want to up your line strength to something stronger perhaps 10-12lb in case you hook a Pike. Hope that helps - Mike

Dear Mike Can the water be too cold for perch to turn on to lures when jigging/drop shoting? Because in this weather I tend to blank on one to two hour sessions, should i be looking for warmer times?
@TAFishing8 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't believe so. But I do think that if the water is really cold the fish won't move much, so it is worth moving your lure very slowly, be it on drop shot or jig. In the winter it's all about the time that you fish. The Perch will feed best at the crack of dawn and at dusk just as it starts to get dark. It is worth fishing those times. - Mike

Would say a baitcatser multiplier reel is ok for dropshotting?

Yes if you have one it will work fine. The Perch won't care weather you are using a baitcaster or spinning reel, it all comes down to personal preference :)

If fish can't see red, why do red maggots work so well? Especially for Perch?!
@TAFishing4 жыл бұрын
Red is last colour to go in the light spectrum at depth I believe,probably why red is good..Worth a Google but I think I am right. I reckon it just stands out better...How come we don't have black maggots.They must work otherwise why do we catch fish on maggots in total darkness ??
