In this video, we drive two of our 2024 Toyota Tacomas from Colorado to California and then back to Colorado. Our long bed 2024 Tacoma is on 35-inch tires, while our short bed 2024 Tacoma is on 37-inch tires. We put over fifteen hundred miles in a few days and experienced zero overheating issues with our Tacoma.

Dude, I have 2024 SR5, long bed, stock. For Labor Day, I drove from LA to Oregon to visit my brother. I had NO issues and it gave me 26 miles per gallon. I have no complaints.

@@hiluxmax2709 That's because the 4th gen isn't gutless and isn't improperly geared like the 3rd gen, as well as the 8 speed transmission but with 37's one would think regear.

that is way too much tire for that light duty drivetrain. also, i believe you are putting to much load on the engine and turbo.

That is horrendous highway mileage for a 4cyl engine. It must be mostly down to you running such large tires still on stock final gear ratios. Get it regard ASAP!

Thank you for showing the proper math for real world MPG for modified 4th gen. So many people simply go by what the dash says even with larger tires. But hmmm, I was hoping for more especially we have smaller tanks now. So in the end we have similar range per tank as the 3rd gen.

My 3rd gen gets way better gas milage. It sits on 37s has a AT habitat on it and full armor and a supercharger. Its over 1000 pounds heavier than this truck. It sucks to hear that a 4 banger with a turbo can't get better gas milage than my 6 banger with a turbo carrying actual overlanding weight.

Owned a Stock trd off road gen 3 and now own a stock trd off road gen 4, both with manual transmissions. The gen 3 got worse mpg by a decent margin. I’m hitting roughly the same mileage per tank and the gen 4 has a smaller tank (I can usually get between 300-350 miles per tank). I also drive fairly reserved normally. Throw a bunch of gear and giant tires on them and you’re going to lose efficiency very quickly. The trucks in this video might as well have parachutes hanging off the back and they’re driving way too fast to be efficient if they’re going over 80 miles an hour. I liked my gen 3 a lot, but I’m loving this new one so far. No regrets whatsoever

The overheating issue is possibly due to their bumper covering the lower half of the radiators. That’s why we designed our bumper to have air inlets for the lower portions of the radiator. Apparently the 24 taco transmission fluid is cooled by engine coolant. Oil to water cooling. 🧐

The white Tacoma also has a long bed so it’s a tiny bit heavier with more frame, bed, driveshaft, etc so that also effects the mpg.

I don't own a 4th Gen. I'm not cool or rich enough for one of those. Just a 3rd gen peasant here. However, I have just enough braincells to educate on your fancy new taco gauges. The gear temp is your transmission temperature not the differential. Just above that is your engine oil temperature gauge. Under the battery volt gauge is your engine oil pressure not temperature. Your engine coolant temperature gauge is at the bottom of your rpm gauge just above your odometer/mileage counter.

Great video guys! Sadly my truck still gets really hot but it’s mainly on passes or going up hill for a while off-road or if you have head winds on the freeway. TFL’s transmission overheated in one of their videos when they were towing a trailer up hill and donut media made a video driving the trd pro Tacoma and they pointed out high trans temps.

Just FYI, the gauge which was on the left screen with the oil can showing L and H (the one above where your engine coolant temp gauge is always at) is actually your oil pressure gauge. It will fluctuate between 40-80% regularly if you pay attention to it while you’re driving. I thought it was my oil temp gauge for a while too, and it was freaking me out a bit lol. Looked it up in the owner’s manual and felt kinda dumb 🤦

Tacoma fanboys are going to have to accept the upgrade path on these will be different than previous gens. Re-gear for 35s and definitely 37s once those are available, and it'll keep you out of boost more while cruising. Doesn't even need much. Stock is 3.58s, so 4.10 maybe for 37s? Staying out of boost cruising should bump that mpg up. Then it's all fun and games once more efficient intercooler and hybrid turbo come out.

Did you also account for the actual distance travel is more than the trip on the dash? Just like the mph, actual is higher due to tire size. If you need to recalculate for actual distance, there should be a bump up in mpg.

Most of these folks never do the math to see the difference in gearing v/s gas mileage. My 2022 Tacoma get's 22/24 mpg with 265/75 16" BFG KO2's. If I went to a bigger tire I need to regear. How come all these sites slap on big tires with no gearing mods?? Even with my 4Wheel Camper loaded on I get 16/18 mpg .. My Tacoma weighs 4685 lbs and 6000 lbs with the camper loaded.
