I could listen to this Dr for hours. As a LMT, I see these issues constantly. I use this same this info all the time. Most therapists incourage forward flexion for back pain. 😪

As a Physiotherapist, I have much of this knowledge and have used many of these strategies. I do a full body assessment for muscle imbalances, asymmetries, habits, and working and resting postures. I have followed Stuart McGill and Maitland and McKenzie's methods. I also teach patient-specific Functional Core Stability movement patterns. I reinforce "Manage NO pain" forever. I am pain-free myself and have 100s of patients also pain-free. People have to believe it can happen as well as be compliant with the program.

Paul Mason is best doctor - a genius! This video has diagnosed my lower back pain (free!). So grateful. I am tall and developed lower back pain from rowing as a scout during adolescence. My very long back and many dumb sports were the problem. Now I cannot even weed the garden - wrong posture, even washing up dishes gives me back ache - and laying in bed, I wish I could work out exactly the sleeping position that kills my back! foetal position is OK that I know and use. But if I straighten my legs I find in the morning I've done my back in again. I disagree about the cyclists though - its not the early morning training that is worst, its the leaning forward on the bike that is the problem. I know this because a motorbike gave me the same problem. I had to sell the motorbike. Never tried the sit-up-straight types of bike- though. You can alleviate it a little by never taking your hands off the handlebars whist leaning forward. But otherwise many cyclists are in a bad posture simply by riding. Don't think there is a solution maybe try a penny-farthing bike or monocycle upright sitting - lol. But that's my opinion. I'm going to watch these two videos a few times now .....

Cycling kills the back for the exact same reason sitting on a standard chair kills the back. In both cases the pelvis is resting on a flat surface, which prevents the spine from reaching its full natural extension. On road bikes it's even worse because they compress the spine further by leaning forward. It is therefore impossible to maintain a "good posture" while riding a bike. Some methods of alleviation have been to find angled seats, but even so there are superficial regulations about how angled your seat can be in cycling competition.

Bicycling expends most energy fighting the wind, hence the 'ducking into the wind' stance. Get an electric sit-up cruiser with some type of effective suspension, or a fat tires. Same for motorcycles, get a moto that has sit-up posture and allows foot positioning to use your legs to take weight off your butt over big bumps and has a windshield that actually deflects the wind. In both cases the 'racer' posture is promoted to sell equipment, but isn't at all practical.

Fantastic video Paul!! Very well done. I didn't know about the cartilage in some disc extrusions. It makes perfect sense. We used to say in the McKenzie courses, when you go to bed your discs go out drinking

Dr Mason, my friend has a few herniated disks, most in the middle of his back.. He searched through my whole country and not a single doctors knows anything about mid back herniation, they all either specialize(know) in neck or low back.. Any advice? Also what do you think about strength training with herniated discs? It would make sense for it to work and not cause too much issues, there will be pain wither way, and it's better to be strong and in pain than weak and in pain. Not a single one of the main strength exercises twists the back in any way, for example squat and deadlift are hip movements, the spine is held rigid in a neutral position by the trunk stabilizers

Hi Doc ! Can i ask if you could do a clip on carnivore diet as it relates to autophagy and cortisol levels as there seems to be some potential negatives there. Also why are we having supplement with electrolytes ? Is it a soil deficiency problem ? What would have been the ancestral fix ?
