dear doctor paul I tell the patients an extra tip : use a small size brush and a little amount of paste because the brush matters most , when you fill the brush with paste you will end up spitting it sooner ! the reason for the small children short bristles brush that i use myself is because i have a buccoverted upper molars so i can get better access to buccal and distal areas , and a normal size brush causes more gag reflex when brushing lower molars lingually which is the most neglected area in the mouth ! ( or at least what i see ). An extra tip for those who didnt dont and wont brush :after eating, eat veggie carbs like carrots, cucomber, some parsley or cabbage . which is not just helpful for overall health but will also remove sticky food ,lots of plaque, prevent decay and freshens breath ! some people dont like suger free gum. (hopefully this was helpful to you and who ever reads this , i do these tips and i never had a tooth decay so far , although i have crowding ! )

This video is a lifesaver. I ate so much sugar today (probably enough sugar for a month lol) and when I brushed my teeth just now, I saw a black stain stuck in my tooth. I had to brush so many times because It won’t come off and I was worried that I formed a cavity from eating all that sugar. Fortunately, the dirt came out but now the center of the tooth is all brown and yellowish. I wonder if that is an early sign for a cavity? Anyway, I’ve learned my lesson and I’ll take care of my teeth from this day forward haha
@DrPaulsDentalWorld2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! It sounds like it could be the start of a cavity. If you have 'fissures' (the grooves that are in the top of your teeth) that are deep, they are more likely to trap food (sounds like it for your teeth), and if that is the case, it can result in cavities. I'm glad you liked the video!

Good to hear 👌 Did they check to see if you have other cavities that needed fixing as well? I would say in most cases if someone ends up needing a root canal then there is likely other stuff happening too. Hi there, unfortunately once there is a cavity you can see, it is too large to stop or reverse it. You need to have the Cavities cleaned and filled. If you have 3 teeth with visible cavities, it is very likely that there are more teeth that have cavities that aren't visible yet and also need fixing before they get much worse. I suitors strongly recommend going to see a dentist for a full assessment and treatment plan

Thank you for the feedback! I think I know what you are talking about. When decay starts on a tooth, it starts in the enamel of the tooth. It goes a white colour first, and then brown. If the decay process stops (for example you start looking after your teeth better, less sugar etc) then the brown spot goes black. If the enamel is still hard and the isn't a hole, then often we don't have to do anything to fix it it sounds like that is the case for you. It might be best to get it checked by a dentist though. If that is the case, the enamel is not as strong as normal, and you have to keep it extra clean with good brushing.

@DrPaulsDentalWorld2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Sorry to hear! If the holes are already there, the only solution is to have them fixed at the dentist. Typically, if you can see the holes, they are more than likely actually bigger than what you can see from the outside, so the sooner you do it the better it will be for your tooth in the long term As a rule of thumb, I also find that patients who have holes on their front teeth, normally have holes forming in the back teeth as well. You might not be able to see them, but the xrays the dentist will take might show them. My advice would be to go for an examination and xrays, and they will tell you all of the work required. You don't have to do it all at once (because it is expensive) but go in every couple of months to do the next stage. Start with the front teeth because you care most about them, but don't neglect the back ones.

I am one of those people whom are apprehensive about using fluoride so thank you for the warning beforehand. With that said, I had to listen anyway. LOL I am so torn about the fluoride thing. Supposedly it's a poison and even though you only use it in your mouth it is still absorbed into the body through the oral cavity where it builds up in your system and eventually calcifies your pineal gland. It is unknown what damage, if any, it does to the body itself over time. Dentists say use fluoride, non-dentists say it's not good for the body. I do believe it is true that fluoride makes your teeth stronger and better but is it worth the risk to ones' body? Do you know if there has been any research on whether years of using fluoride causes damage to the body in the long run? Maybe you know something on this that I do not. Anyway, with all that said, great advice and video! And I am going to follow your advice for all you said, but I have to work on #9. Now I am off to buy me some xylitol gum! Have a great day!! Thanks again for the very informative video!!

Yes I completely understand. You're dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. So whatever you feel comfortable with and try and adopt the other strategies. If you're going to the dentist and your mouth is in good health, don't worry about fluoride. If not, you might need to introduce it. There are definitely long term studies that show there is no significant impact of fluoride on our bodies - if it were the opposite, we wouldn't recommend it. Dentists practise evidence based recommendations, and the evidence comes to scientific peer reviewed studies

Hello doctor I have a question which I had not found the answer to yet. At the left side back of my mouth where I had only my lower wisdom tooth removed a year ago, from around march there would be a red spot on my gum every one or two months and sometimes there would tooth ache randomly on my upper or lower left back teeth. I am guessing it might be cavities? I know you cannot give a certain answer through an only comment and might not have the time to answer anyways thanks for the informative videos and the great work you’re doing 🙏🏻
@DrPaulsDentalWorld2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like an infection inside the bone, underneath the gum, that is causing that red spot, which is the site that the infection is draining out of. This has two possible causes 1 because you mentioned the wisdom tooth and it being in the same area, possibly some of the tooth was left in place and had resulted in infection. An xray would be done to check 2 it is a cavity in another tooth, which has resulted in the tooth dying, and then a subsequent infection in the bone below the tooth. This can also be checked with an xray.

@DrPaulsDentalWorld3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how much of the video you watched, but there is a lot more to it than sugar. Any good that we eat gets turned into acid which dissolves our teeth and causes cavities. The more you do this during the day (grazing on food/drinks) then the more likely to get holes. Then there is how often you see the dentist. Flossing/brushing frequency. Flossing/brushing technique. Brushing duration. Fluoride toothpaste. Previous history when younger (small cavities can start when younger and go undetected by you/your dentist, then become big holes later). Bacteria in your mouth and genetics also play a role.

Do current holes fill themselves naturally or do they stay forever?
@DrPaulsDentalWorld2 жыл бұрын
If you have a hole, it won't fill in. It means that bacteria are inside of the tooth, slowly destroying the tooth structure, which allows them to progress further in. Unfortunately, once you have as hole, it can't be reversed, and it rarely can be stopped. . It is a slow process, but the best thing to do is to have the hole cleaned out by a dentist and then filled with a filling.

But, if you have teeth that have black in them now, it probably means others have cavities as well. So you should go to the dentist to get the teeth all made perfect first, otherwise it will keep progressing and you can't stop it

Hello from Montreal, Canada. Great presentation. Can you please slow down a little bit habibi? Some of us are accustomed to North American accents and some of us are seniors...like me.

The holes get bigger and deeper, and the bacteria in the holes will eventually go into the nerve of your tooth and then the tooth either needs to have root canal therapy (where the nerve is removed) or extracted. Both things you want to avoid for as long as possible.

My tooth have teeth have holes in them I counted like 8 of my front teeth has holes. It might be because I drink energy drinks every day. I am 20yrs old to. I have monster every day never touched water in my life
@DrPaulsDentalWorld3 жыл бұрын
Yeah energy drinks will do that 😔 If you have holes in your front teeth, it is quite likely your back teeth have the start of holes in them as well.

I have a Pin sharp plaque holes in my teeth... While outside cold my teeth starts paining... I have to stop it... I'm using colgate strong teeth toothpaste and I'm thinking about changing toothpaste to sensodyne fresh gel... Idk it'll work but I want to rid of it... Please any normal way to stop?
@DrPaulsDentalWorld3 жыл бұрын
Hi there, if you're saying that you have holes in the teeth, then the holes need to be fixed by a dentist with fillings. Sensodyne may help, but I wouldn't expect it to help much

isn't fluoride toxic? fluoride is a toxic industrial by-product, that is why there is a label on every toothpaste which states to contact poison control if swallowed , you r dentist you should now that
@DrPaulsDentalWorld2 жыл бұрын
Interesting comment, and one I'm happy to discuss. It's all about toxicity levels. If you drink too much water you can also die, yet I don't tell people to steer clear from it. The levels of fluoride in toothpaste and the amount they may be ingested (you spit out the toothpaste) is too low to cause damage. What are your thoughts on this?
