Do you prefer quick release or non quick release on your ratchets? Pros and cons?

I honestly think I'd still be a QR guy. I just grew up with them in part, but the other end is two-fold. First, if your hands are dirty (especially oily) it is much easier to swap sockets with a QR. Second, and kind of list in going with QR, it locks the socket. So when you are using something like the Nut Grips that might catch on a fastener, you run the risk of it pulling off (very low, but possible), the QR helps eliminate that. The cons are that the QR is not as strong and you lose real estate that allows for really nice looking finish outs, lol. Most of my Koken's are non-QR for the simple fat that they didn't make them at the time I was buying. You can't go wrong either way with Koken...

Lone Star, The Torque test channel did a video on wrench testing the Husky Bite wrenches. They ended up comparing will to other wrench and they are on sale to 2/2/25 for $40 for a 10pc set in metric or SAE.

I'll check it out. I have some fairly aggressive Husky wrenches, can't remember if they had a name with them, but they date back to probably 2016-2018ish. Not a bad price, especially for a backup set.

@@lonestarmopars I think the Husky Bite wrenches are less than a year old but not sure. Tried them on my Dad garden tractor and they worked will, both lessening and tightening.

Nice! I used my set pretty extensively and then wound up bringing in a whole slew of wrenches from across the globe, lol. But for a short span of time, the black Huskys were my main wrenches...they were significantly longer than my Craftsman USA so it was a nice change of pace.

Even though I think with shipping I paid close to $65, the KOKEN 3/8" 16MM UNIVERSAL SPARK PLUG SOCKET WITH SPRING CLIP has saved my butt a few times on the rear spark plugs on TOYOTA 3.5L V6. THOSE PLUGS ARE A PAIN TO GET INTO IN A FEW VEHICLES - having to remove wiper cowl, upper intake manifold etc- I HAVE COME ACROSS SEVERAL VEHICLES THAT THE FRONT 3 PLUGS N COILS BEEN REPLACED BUT THE REAR 3 WERE OEM.

That sounds about right, lol. One of the horrors of taking your vehicles in for service...so much can be skipped.

@lonestarmopars please keep the videos coming. I tune in for all of em

I plan too...haven't been able to record anything in about a month, but I've luckily got a huge backlog ready to go, lol.

What flex 3/8" ratchet do you prefer, the Nepros or Koken?
@lonestarmoparsКүн бұрын
Can you name a favorite child, lol?! That is a tough one. They are honestly both great. My work Koken (exactly the same as the one in this video) has gotten significantly more "free" as in the giant 15/16" sockets I run sort of weigh it down. It isn't anything egregious, but is noticeable. My Nepros doesn't have as much usage, but is mainly spinning 9/16" and smaller sockets. However, I wonder if the nylon insert on it might last a little longer. If I had to advise, I'd tell you to get a fixed Nepros and a flex head Koken...you save a bit that way and get to experience both ratchet mechanisms.

@lonestarmopars I notice they stagger sizes as well in the flex options so there isn't an apples to apples exact size comparison (280mm vs 330 Nepros) Yes, Nepros are expensive but feel more 'substantial' in hand.
@lonestarmopars16 сағат бұрын
Yep, lots of small differences between the lines. The Nepros, especially the older ones, have a significant weight to them. The redesign shaved a lot of weight, but they still have that quality feel.

i guess i did tell u already about my parkside performance fake Halder rubber mallet ... 8,99€ 5yrs warranty i bet the halder inserts fit. But i can warranty it for free :D
@lonestarmoparsКүн бұрын
If the inserts fit it might be a solid buy...main thing is the handle and construction. Feel in hand is important with hammers.

i hope i grab all the junkfood clearance deals monday morning while being at lidl for that stuff.. they are all having all the so called " american food" for the SB to me its kinda cringe :D yall dont know peanut flips (like chips/cheeseballs/cornballs) and maple and cranberry syrup is more canadian ! ;) but that dr. pepper vanilla sure tastes nice i reckon yesterday ! :)

The Super Bowl is a huge food event here...usually nothing fancy, but sometimes people go all out. My favorite SB food is Little Smokies...you can put them in a crock pot with BBQ and Dr. Pepper and they come out pretty good.

Why are Koken ratchet handle grip made for midget hands? 😳 Why does that ratchet handle shaft look as thick as an SK 1/2 dr pull handle I owned in the 80s! Is that really necessary?
@lonestarmoparsКүн бұрын
That is really my biggest complaint...I think their logic with the Z-Series is just to make everything slim and compact. While they nailed that, it leaves a bit to be desired for those accustomed to grips like Snap-on etc.
@tinyz812 күн бұрын
yes obviously were weired with SAE just get this .. that ratchet set starts at 4.4mm no skips till 14mm .. i hate seeing yall hobo freight sets when they start at 10mm .. you need that 8mm and 9mm here !!! ( i wrench curb scrap vintage bikes as a hobby ! ) 9mm / and 11mm is common on em ! lugnuts are mostly 15 or 14
@lonestarmoparsКүн бұрын
No kidding...9mm is probably one of the least used sockets over here. I think there are some niche imports that had them and then I wouldn't be surprised if they sneak in here and there, but it s one that is seldom used. I much prefer SAE.
