Even though I think with shipping I paid close to $65, the KOKEN 3/8" 16MM UNIVERSAL SPARK PLUG SOCKET WITH SPRING CLIP has saved my butt a few times on the rear spark plugs on TOYOTA 3.5L V6. THOSE PLUGS ARE A PAIN TO GET INTO IN A FEW VEHICLES - having to remove wiper cowl, upper intake manifold etc- I HAVE COME ACROSS SEVERAL VEHICLES THAT THE FRONT 3 PLUGS N COILS BEEN REPLACED BUT THE REAR 3 WERE OEM.

What flex 3/8" ratchet do you prefer, the Nepros or Koken?
@lonestarmopars
@lonestarmopars Күн бұрын
Can you name a favorite child, lol?! That is a tough one. They are honestly both great. My work Koken (exactly the same as the one in this video) has gotten significantly more "free" as in the giant 15/16" sockets I run sort of weigh it down. It isn't anything egregious, but is noticeable. My Nepros doesn't have as much usage, but is mainly spinning 9/16" and smaller sockets. However, I wonder if the nylon insert on it might last a little longer. If I had to advise, I'd tell you to get a fixed Nepros and a flex head Koken...you save a bit that way and get to experience both ratchet mechanisms.
@kottke25
@kottke25 22 сағат бұрын
@lonestarmopars I notice they stagger sizes as well in the flex options so there isn't an apples to apples exact size comparison (280mm vs 330 Nepros) Yes, Nepros are expensive but feel more 'substantial' in hand.
@lonestarmopars
@lonestarmopars 14 сағат бұрын
Yep, lots of small differences between the lines. The Nepros, especially the older ones, have a significant weight to them. The redesign shaved a lot of weight, but they still have that quality feel.

Why are Koken ratchet handle grip made for midget hands? 😳 Why does that ratchet handle shaft look as thick as an SK 1/2 dr pull handle I owned in the 80s! Is that really necessary?
@lonestarmopars

That is really my biggest complaint...I think their logic with the Z-Series is just to make everything slim and compact. While they nailed that, it leaves a bit to be desired for those accustomed to grips like Snap-on etc.

I honestly think I'd still be a QR guy. I just grew up with them in part, but the other end is two-fold. First, if your hands are dirty (especially oily) it is much easier to swap sockets with a QR. Second, and kind of list in going with QR, it locks the socket. So when you are using something like the Nut Grips that might catch on a fastener, you run the risk of it pulling off (very low, but possible), the QR helps eliminate that. The cons are that the QR is not as strong and you lose real estate that allows for really nice looking finish outs, lol. Most of my Koken's are non-QR for the simple fat that they didn't make them at the time I was buying. You can't go wrong either way with Koken...

one of my first jobs was entry level apprentice for goldsmith, we used round nose pliers all the time. They grip much better than what most would expect because you have 2 pressure points directly opposed and most material will deform slightly, so these are pretty nice at grabbing even though they don't have any type of tooth geomety. Search jewlers or beadmaker pliers and you will find all kinds of interesting mixed jaw pliers like parallel pliers with one flat jaw and one round jaw. The inline parallel flat jaw pliers was the most used pair of pliers. I don't think I have seen one of our mainstream manufactures make one--Picture knipex Cobra but inline rather than jaw angle offset to handles. PS KC tool seems to be getting amped up for the Super Bowl. Keep us posted on if you are snagging any Super Bowl deals. I hope the Eagles win and they offer huge discounts on Eagles green Stahlwille.

I have 2 pair of the Knipex round nose , 1 pair of Tsunoda--all different sizes. I also have a larger pair of fire tongs same style. Use those for ornamental blacksmith work. I use small ones for xmas ornament stuff, kids and wife jewelry repair, small stuff- I don't envision myself using any round nose pliers for home electrical as a standalone tool. I prefer the textured dip handle on almost all my knipex or I have some that are bare handles.

I know the 10" is usually lower priced than the 7" version, but something I did notice awhile back is Knipex has a 2 piece set with the non-locking version from the video and the 85-51-250-C for a slightly better price than if you were to buy them both individually.

Yeah, that one translated right across. I usually call them constant tension. People hate them and replace them with gearworm style all the time, but I find this style to be much better for actually retaining fluid. There would be a reason so many OEMs use them.
@Ninersfanatic79
@Ninersfanatic79 8 күн бұрын
@@lonestarmoparsabsolutely agree. Over time worm drive clamps can loosen with expansion and contraction due to hot/cold possibly causing a leak or drip while constant tension can flex with that expansion/contraction back n forth. A lot of people don't think of this when replacing, for a long time I didn't think about it. I only replace in absolute emergency then order the correct clamp

I'd like to find a pair of those Channel Locks somewhere. Too bad they're discontinued. I almost bought those Wiha auto adjust pliers a little while back when they were on sale for $17 on Amazon, but I held off because I hadn't seen any reviews. I'm a little hesitant to buy any more Wiha pliers right now. I bought a pair of their 8" bent needle-nose two weeks ago, and while they're not exactly horrible quality, they're just not worth the $23-$24 regular price, though I did get them on sale for $19. But I honestly expected better from Wiha after owning some of their drivers and bits, etc. I would compare their quality to HF Doyle, or "maybe" Irwin. I may give those auto adjust ones a shot now after seeing more on them.

I had those channel locks and didn’t like them. I had a couple brands like them and they just didn’t work well. I have the 150 knipex that don’t lock but they are great for single spring clamps. They are the only ones that work for them for real. I tried everything I could find that was reasonably priced for the ones I run into. My coworker broke the swivel jaw of a set though. Not as indestructible as your other knipex pliers so be careful with them

I meant to ask my Mac guy if they still had them...KC18A is the part number and they show to be "in stock" online, so I'm guessing they are...I am pretty sure they are Channellock's, but haven't actually seen them on the truck to get a good look. They are pretty solid, but I'd much rather have them for Channellock's $20 as opposed to Mac's $60. I've got some Wiha bent needle nose and they are the sloppiest finished Wiha pliers I own, but have worked well. They look to have been ground by hand and whoever did it got a bit carried away on one side (if the gap was symmetrical it wouldn't be as bad despite being bigger, lol). I would definitely have their pliers several tiers below their drivers, but when you can get them for sale prices, they are pretty solid. I actually like their grips too. Most people just glaze over them due to COO, but they have been pretty good. If you get lucky and get "old stock" you might have German made pliers. The auto adjust have quirks, but are really unique and have served me quite well. They are also WAY cheaper than the Knipex. Since getting the Knipex (they are also in the roll cart like the Wihas), I use them pretty much every time. For boosted...that is definitely a great price. For bulshavix6...Yeah, the Channellock's aren't perfect, but are pretty good for heater hose and fuel lines. I've been really impressed with the Knipex, but the swivel pads are definitely a replaceable item. I'd like to see them fixed, but the swivel really is nice...guess that is the trade off. I should probably buy a few spare pads to keep on hand.

Round pliers I haven’t found a use for outside of the jewelry work I do (making findings). Never thought about making springs with them though. Related almost all of the jewelry tools I buy are through Gesswein, Stuller and Rio Grand. All have there own brand of tools they sell (rebrands I assume), most of which is made in Germany. Including all my round pliers like you have shown. Has me wondering who makes these and other pliers I use for work. Cutters im buying Lindstrom which I believe is made in Spain. Recommend Lindstrom for small side cutter needs! I believe they’re owned by Snap-On too I’ve been wanting to buy the Knipex hose clamp pliers just haven’t yet, didn’t know locking existed! I will be getting them to try! I use to have the channel locks but lost them years ago. Snap On LN47ACFs are imo the single best pair of pliers anyone could buy. It’s by far the most versatile. Keiba is the pinnacle of Japanese pliers. Its design is simple and traditional, but it hides subtle sophistications that make all the difference to its usability. Soo soft/pneumatic tires are good for a smoother ride over uneven terrain and that is where they are most beneficial. I'm actually looking into one currently but haven't pulled the trigger I'm mobile tech so I was hoping to find a good folding one so I can pack it somewhere in my van easily and out the way so I don't have to constantly move it but I think I'm sol there so I'm dragging my feet on a full size one lol but I need the height and strength I can't seem to find in a folding one

Yeah, I had a friend mention stairs the other day for pneumatic tires...I have my mind tracked more towards industrial use, material handling, and then just stuff around the home shop. I've not had much luck with the pneumatic tires...flatten out under load, newer tires just don't hold air well, and there is lots of stuff to run over and render them useless. That said, I could see people wanting pneumatic. Have you tried somewhere like Uline? Might be able to score a heavier duty one that will still fold up nice. If I was mobile in a van, I'd probably want folding as well. My local Northern Tool has an insane dolly/pallet jack arsenal, but I can't recall if they had folding. If you haven't tried it, I think Uline might be the best bet for your setup.
