I've learned so much from watching his shows, as have millions of others. Sometimes when you are in a situation you cannot see that it's ridiculous, or irrelevant, and lose sight of the priorities. You cannot see the wood, for the trees. It should be useful to realise that you've got caught up in the drama, and forgotten for your values. You are making it out to be something that it is not. If you are dating a single parent, I can give some useful advice. Stop acting like you have any type of parental role. If you have gotten to the point where you are expected to watch the kids, follow these simple rules: If the child is misbehaving, call the parent on the phone to deal with it in which ever way they see fit, if any. If parent is not available you simply delay the disciplinary action to when they get home. I've left my kids with a neighbour or an uncle to watch them, it is the same thing. You are a responsible adult to make sure they don't die, that's about it. You are not a parent, you don't raise them and you don't get a say, stop pretending you do and you will be so much happier. The shift towards having a more significant role in kids life is a very slow and contingent matter, which may or may not materialise, regardless of relationship status or even marriage. We are the Free Kids from Clueless Step-parents movement and these are our demands!!

Honestly, if I had to pick, his mother is the most honest person on that stage. The other 3 are all in a vicious cycle trying to out hirt each other and the only casualty are those children. They will all grow up and unless they sever tries, the destruction of this family will continue.

The Mom admits he was absolutely taking care of the kids and the household and her, and yet suddenly he’s such a terrible father??? I honestly think women like this do drive men crazy and make the, feel absolutely defeated and hopeless. Then her mother says she was jealous over the other Grandmother seeing the baby at the shower…so Mom goes and takes the baby away!? I’m not saying he’s acting 100% correct, but I can see why he’s so angry. This woman and her mother both play games and I think definitely use the kids as pawns and it’s DISGUSTING AND WRONG! This is parental alienation. She should be punished for her part in this too. At least he’s sees his. She doesn’t see she’s done anything although it’s abundantly evident she’s played a equal role.

Smoking pot is not a life altering event. Im 50. Been Smoking pot since i was 12. I have 3 grown children all successful, i have a good job, own my home and looking forward to grandchildren and retirement. Marijuana never prevented me from success nor has it ever turned me abusive. Point being, pot doesn't make this man abusive and angry, mental health issues do.

When people grow up sheltered from that kind of lifestyle they don't usually know what signs to look out for. I know plenty of people who didn't know marijuana existed until almost 20 years old. So, I can see where she would think him doing d*ugs and pawning everything meant it was just marijuana.

Some states you can use it out in the open and other states there are a lot of rules and you have to have a doctor write you a prescription for it and buy a marijuana card. Why is Doctor Phil taking his side??? This dude is LITERALLY proving her every point, right in front of him, and he is harsh on *her?* i don't care WHAT she did, nothing justifies being thrown thru a wall or pinned via a chokehold to the fireplace. This episode feels so lop-sided. I guess when people say things like "Dr Phil is just a sensationalist and he capitalizes and exploits people" - this is what they are referring to. That being said, I'm only halfway through the episode - hopefully this turns around.

Also halfway through. So far it looks like he's calling them both out. The things he admits to doing are outrageous, and her body language is a whole other set of red flags. I can definitely believe there is alienation going on on her part (beyond what he's causing on his own). Looks like it's only about to get worse. Poor kids!

I was young and clueless like this woman. 2 weeks after I turned 18 I married a man 10 years older than myself who hid his addiction from me. It took me 3 years to figure it out. I tried to leave 3 times by that time it had been more than 10 years and we had 4 kids. I got full custody. My ex died from cocaine use before the youngest was grown. This man does remind me of my ex.
