Codependency is a real mental disorder and the victim can’t leave without help, in the same way an addict can’t stop without treatment. She would have needed intensive therapy to learn to stand on her own and not look to everyone else for the answers in life. The codependent has a learned helplessness from childhood trauma and doesn’t know how to take charge of their own life, pay their own bills, make the hard decisions. They freeze and panic, and so they go back to abuse which feels safe, bc the abuser controls their every move. This doesn’t excuse this mothers terrible actions, but it’s meant to provide insight. The mother needed to accept that she needed HELP in order to stay away
@anotherinternetidiot63004 ай бұрын

This is such a potent example of how trauma begets trauma! I really believe that parenting would be a great compulsory subject in schools...how to set boundaries, conflict resolution skills, anger management, what is needed to become a healthy adult/parent, how to seek support if needed....and of course...what positive self esteem is. Education is SO important...I had some great teachers growing up..fantastic role models...mentors, and the right kind of 'influencers' are desperately needed. I wish them all positive, thorough, multi-layered healing journeys!

If you recall, mom's response was along the lines of "how can I get started too?" I think what people fail to realize is the impact trauma has on a developing mind. All of the horrific things happening to the daughter, most likely happened to mom and her mom before that. After the first few incidents of abuse, the rest just feel like regular bumps in the road. You just learn to compartmentalize it and keep moving. No big deal. When you begin trauma at an early age, even just your parents arguing, it has a tremendous impact on the values you assign to the world around you and how you learn to digest your environment. In the child's worldview, the value of not only their life, but that of other people is on a steep decline. People, life and your own identity are just a means to meet your immediate deficits and the thought of tomorrow doesnt really matter. Children raised in these warzone homes are completely stunted in their development and never reach maturity. In fact they go to destroy other healthy functioning people.

Try church. If you are not religious try to find a team sport to join , even bowling can help. Sometimes we feel like such a little speck in the world but you have the power and the right to change your world. I know about open wounds. I was able to finally turn mine into scars . Its always there but now its a memory not a participant in my life. Dont give up. Go be the shining star you know you can be. Best of luck on your journey.

@@susanrenee9494 I'm stuck in this spot. I don't have the convenience or privilege to go out and do anything fun. And I don't have a support system. Thanks for the words of encouragement though.

The mother and absent father are the root of the issues with the daughter and places the grandchild at risk. The grandmother/mother is only bashing her daughter and grandchild mother with going on this program. Sabotaging her family on level she will only be aware when she is too old to take care of herself... Shame on mom/grandma for bashing her daughter...as if she is not the root issues

Faith has been more of a mother to the grandchild and her daughter is living a dangerous lifestyle. Instead of insulting the mother be grateful her child isn't in foster care.

Wow, the mother set her daughter on a sad road when she didn’t protect her from the abuser. I don't consider her a mother at all. A mother protects her child, and certainly doesn't stay with her child's abuser! Pathetic!

The worst thing the mom did with guilt was allowing drugs and alcohol to a minor. Shame on her. Her daughter cannot lean on her mom's behavior has nothing to do with her decisions. Grow up and raise your kid.

This daughter is merely a drama Queen with no crown. I LOVE the way she tosses her hair back to put the explanation point on her antics. BTW.. both mother and daughter need counseling.

Why is her mother trying to tell her what to do now she's 21 when she let go out and get pregnant at 15 so the mother wasn't really a proper mother to her back then and now its to late for her to be telling her how too live her life

The mother is a terrible mother. Ivey. You do you. But get your son out of that toxic environment. Your moms is not a healthy place for your son if your mother is still seeing your abuser. And stop giving her money. Only for your son

Yes the mother has made a lot of mistakes but her daughter is an adult and knows what she is doing is wrong leaving her child and being a prostitute. Lets stop blaming others for our actions

So immature is so naïve. She has no idea what this life will do to her and where she will be in 20 years. Playing mommy is a game for her.

My ex best friend was just like this and put all of her importance on the men in and out of her house she slept with and her daughter suffered and her adult life became the same only a worse nightmare. So very sad. We all have family trauma and there comes a point where you say “The cycle ends with me”! Self destructing to punish your parents doesn’t work out. You don’t have to even have a relationship you have to get yourself back ti good 💜

I don't know why everyone clapped about the mom of Ivy, taking money from Ivy. The mom doesn't want to raise the baby, or for Ivy to be escorting. But if Ivy's mom, is raising the baby, why should she also have to be financially burdened?
