I love how one sided these interviews are parsed, and how it ALWAYS falls on the guys shoulders for the majority of bad marriages. Let's be clear, it's impossible to unpack YEARS of unhappiness in a marriage. Just because the wife turns on the waterworks, doesn't make her the victim here. Edwin seems like a man with few words, a real introvert and very stoic. The sh!tty thing here, is a lot of the pervasive and toxic behavior of women that drive a lot of men to act like this is overlooked and glossed over, like it isn't a big deal and us men are supposed to deal with it. Well ladies, unfortunately, many of us develope bad coping mechanisms like drinking to deal with those toxic behaviors. The majority of divorces happen because BOTH men and women display toxic behaviors that are bad for a cohesive relationship. Just because women's behaviors are less 'outward', that doesn't make those behaviors any less detrimental.

I don't agree - I think HE should divorce HER. She turned into a gold-digger 17 seconds after hearing him say "I won the lottery". First of all, $1.6M is NOT that much money. OK, no - I don't have, nor ever will have $1.6M and I realize it sure IS a lot of money compared to my income. But in terms of lottery wins, it is NOT huge. I think any family, if they're not careful, could easily go through that amount very quickly. House, TWO new trucks, a HUGE holiday trailer, a carry-all trailer, a house for his brother.............................etc. I wonder if ANY of those decisions were made over a period of time and planning or if he just ran to the dealer and finger-pointed at a huge truck and trailer, and the second truck, and said "Ring 'em up for me". These two sound exactly like the typical financially-uneducated people who see a pile of money and just rush out and consume whatever they've fantasized about having all their lives. And, although the money is largely already spent, she's STILL going on and on and on about semantics - "it's not "his" win, it is "our" win. It's not "his" money, it is "our money". "I didn't agree to all those purchases........" It's too late to reverse the video and have them return all that consumer stuff and get the money back. It's spent. It's gone. Hopefully, lesson learned. Stop picking at each other - you have young kids to raise. Get your train back on the rails and go back to living on your income, learning how to be financially stable now and into the future. Sad lesson, but many millions of people have done the same thing. Just learn from it and move forward.

I did some work for a guy that had won big in the lottery a few years prior . The guy paid off his house , paid off and divorced the wife , got a younger girlfriend that didn't last long , and in the end the guy just layed out drunk by his pool every day , just him and an assistant that basically kept him fed , made sure the bills got paid , and made sure the guy didn't drown in his pool or his own vomit. Same thing happened to my ex husband. Our marriage was already shaking because he wanted us to live with his parents and I wanted us to live by ourselves. Then his parents gave him an early inheritance of 1.8 million when we were married so that we could buy a house but he hid it from me for months and then decided to leave me to find other women and finally divorced me. Money suddenly made him think he could have any woman he wanted so why stay content with just one? I was completely heartbroken. And he told me we had received this money I didn’t even ask him for it nor did I ever ask him to spend any of it in me, but somehow he thought he could find someone else better out there. During the divorce he payed 2 lawyers so that I wouldn’t receive any of this money and I truly didn’t even want to fight it, at that point I was too traumatized by everything. Money and divorce shows you the real nature of people.

In the Netherlands, and I'm sure there's also other countries who do this, you get a financial advisor when you win more than a certain amount of money to help you make informed and rational decisions with your money. Edit: that guy already decided that the marriage was over way before this happened to them. Sadly he did not inform his wife of this idea or his feelings. He simply checked out while his wife still believed they only had a few marital issues that could be resolved. And THIS is why it's so darned important to TALK to each other and be honest! If you feel like the spark/love isn't there anymore, be honest about it instead of blindsiding your partner!

LotoMax is Canadian and we aren’t taxed on lottery winnings so the amount he won is the amount he got. 1.6 or 1.7 million (given it is a group winning and split of the bucket) is still a lot but the buying power is fading.

Amazing how fast that money goes! My ex-wife got a bunch of money from our divorce and she was living on cloud 9 with the guy she cheated with, her HS boyfriend who recently divorced and abandoned his sick wife and his kid. He signed off giving his ex-wife full custody. I warned my ex-wife that the guy was a scumbag but she didn’t listen and they burned through that money so fast. I’ve watched her spiral out of control and make one bad decision after another. It sucks but you can’t stop someone from behaving like a reckless selfish jackass.

I feel for this guy. My son married a woman who slowly controlled him to the point where he left her, thank god. She was toxic but others thought she was funny, bubbly. I saw right through her but this was a slow progression and then he stopped being the person he was and became void, numb for the longest time, one day he got up and walked out the door then he became resentful and angry that he stayed for so long.

Being in a program with a strong support system greatly increases your chances of success and recovery. Remember, there is no cure, only managed recovery.

My brother, for example, has no access to what his wife inherited after her father's death, because he agreed about a separate agreement : he can keep what he gets, she can keep what she gets (the huge money from the inheritance).
