Hey lads, fantastic session and great friendship on show here. Jonas - did not know you were sick, hope all is well now mate. John - Arsenal on the way back, Tierney playing super (no surprises here), great to see the resurgence. Mark - what's happening Chelsea, super Franky may get the chop?. [Now, take it easy on me, we won't mention Celtic and Liverpool, LOL). Konung, thanks for the shoutout, it gave me great pleasure to introduce Fruupp to you al those years ago, knew you would love them. Equally, I still treasure all the reciprocal gifts you gave me.

You were right about Tierney last year Ben. He's our best player by far. I hope you're all good over there.

Streetwalkers! Good to see the Family thread continue, Mark. I think I owned the entire Family tree on vinyl back in the day. Sadly, that collection was sold (stab, stab) and I've only replaced a handful since. Great episode, guys. Stay safe.

What a great start of the year and continuation of the VC sessions. Excellent to see Jonas sharing his records. I feel this episode had twice the records as normal. Had to stop the video a few times to look up the records, many I was not familiar with. Cheers. /Paul

Good to see you guys, and special guest Jonas. John, I have been looking for that Music for Xaba album, but haven't decided if I can afford it, also, thanks for the mention of the Hired Hand. I will watch it soon. Mark, I like that whole Family/Streetwalkers/ Roger Chapman, though some of the Roger Chapman solo stuff is a little weaker. I need to find someone to loan me Galactic Ramble! Thanks, Chris

Fab, fab,k fabulous edition with another VC legend. Mark and John you really did a fine job talking and sharing records with Jonas. So good to see you holding up Untitled (Rise} Mark. I got a copy coming in the mail next week. I was thinking of grabbing 'Black Is' too. You know the producer Inflo? I have that Wes Montgomery album John. I never took the time out to listen to it. I will now. I found my copy at Goodwill for one dollar. I did not even know who it was at the time. But I did know the label. {smile} Jonas always was a step ahead in discovering interesting artists. I am sure the both of you influenced a few of his purchases through the years. All three of you have influenced my record buying for the last eight years or so~ Rob/Boston

Hi Rob - I suspect that the Wes M won't be an earth shattering listen - but it is beautifully played and put together

Nice to see Jonas, one of the first guys I was following in the vc. Killer records, I would love to find that eugene mcdaniels. Really rare and certainly almost as good as the other one. Sault are hard to get, I hope they'll reissue them. Album of the year (for me probably). Never seen the mcCoy Tyner, sounds very interesting. Great story around the bernt rosengren lp :-) amazing record, really. Jackson C Frank, really a heartbreaker, esp. when you know his story. Cool books. Thanks for sharing guys, take care and happy new year

Nice range of music, enjoyed that.. must revisit Roger Chapman & Family. Could never get to grips with his voice. Once found about 6 of his albums on Chiswick High Rd sticking out of a litter bin. Gave them a listen but traded them in! Interesting about Norman Connors’ drumming. Was wondering about that as most tracks I love seem to have James Gadson etc..
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
To be fair to Norman - he's never claimed to be a great drummer. He is however a excellent organiser and producer.
@Ed-Topo-1083 жыл бұрын
@@omniversal7 saw a Steve Gadd interview where he says he was inspired by Chick Corea’s drumming. Never realised he played drums on some Shorter albums.

Hi Happy New Year! Great to see Jonas together with you two! That Bernt Rosengren album is great, and nice story Jonas about meeting him. @john Yes, Stanko made a cd in the late 90s playing Krzysztof Komeda music with Swedish and Norwegian musicians and Rosengren and Milder was on sax (Rypdal on guitar, plus P Danielsson, B Stenson, J Christensen), I bought it when it came out great record! Yes, that Jack DeJohnette is a favorite, need to revisit that one. Jackson C. Frank is great, I want that one on vinyl. I just listened to some Photay, nice stuff, thanks Mark I'll listen more to that. I'm hopping for a new pressing of that Gillian Welsch album I will buy it, very good. @jonas Ascension = great basement music? Wow, I've never seen that FMP box John, very cool, and great info about the pressings. Lots of love to all of you guys, and thank you for doing this!

Great show, with a nice bit of 2 step joy from leon ware. The d'angelo doc sounds very intriguing as well. It's funny you cast aspersions on norman connors's drumming; I saw him in concert last year just before lockdown and he didnt play drums at all, just strutted around the stage while his band did all the work. Fun show though.

Devils Pie is worth a watch! Norman knows how to put on a show...stay well Laurence and thanks for being first here!
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurence. I saw Norman at the Jazz Cafe in the mid 90s and it was actually a great show. He did play drums a bit but he had a lot of percussive enhancement on stage. Proper large band though which was rare back in those days.

Funny that "Feza" means "space" in Turkish, so I assumed that he was also Turkish. Didn't know these collaborations of Okay Temiz.
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
Hi Cihan. Feza was actually South African but I think he would have loved knowing that his named translated into 'space'! John (top left)

Jackson C Frank Lp worth at least one listen, such a tragic life it seems. How you chaps can listen to that Ware Lp, or any YachtNoSoul I call it, is endlessly intriguing, or alarming.

I play music in shuffle mode off a hard drive when I'm working and last week I got a Toto > Ligeti segue that I admit Mike did cause some turbulence for the yacht :)
@miketomlin60403 жыл бұрын
@@omniversal7 I avoid shuffle, always have, prefer to be prepared for in more control of mood changes. Ligeti might be tolerable , Toto would persuade me to jump off the yacht and give my smoke riddled carcass to an unlucky shark!
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
@@miketomlin6040 I certainly don't shuffle all the time. The rest of my listening is carefully curated. Shuffle however can be dangerous and not just for sharks on a diet. I was once driving at high speed on a motorway and I jumped from Busta Rhymes to Morton Feldman - then perfectly in sync my tyre blew up.
@miketomlin60403 жыл бұрын
@@omniversal7 The word shuffle is linked to evasion, laziness, clumsiness.....all negatives. I disliked it from the start. Although I was part of the exposure to music on the radio generation, which is a form of shuffling. But a different dynamic. Rhymes might be better for faster driving than Feldman, so the explosion has a logic of sorts. Hopefully you were only going UK fast of 80mph, not the Italian, French or Spanish 100 plus norm. But it should have been a sign you need to curate 24/7.
