Good seeing everyone and several new things for me to check out. Doves is very intriguing. Thanks for the encouragement but I wouldn’t hold my breath on me doing a video. Would rather just keep watching you guys. Glad you’re still enjoying going through the records

Great fun seeing you guys talk passionate about music. A lot of love for the Rune Grammofon label. I'm probably the only one, but when someone shows a Scandinavian record called Arrival, I think Abba ;) Cheers guys, another great episode. /Paul

Great to see a nod to Family! "Fearless" and "Anyway" are also great albums, especially "Fearless." If you don't have it, get it now. Love Family. Great episode guys. Thanks again and keep it going. Merry Christmas!

Never underestimate the rock & roll credibility of a good pair of slippers ;-) wish I could find that Horace Andy on vinyl, tough one to come by - I did find the Blood & Fire reissues of In The Light & Dub on vinyl some time back (having originally discovered them on CD). I think those have been more recently put out again by VP Records. Finally saw the Babylon film earlier this year when I too went through a Dennis Bovell listening phase, definitely an under appreciated figure. Need to check out that UK film series that is getting so much praise that he appeared in. Incidentally the Yabby You tracks on the Babylon LP were apparently unauthorized, according to a friend and former producer of Yabby who lives not far from me now - had an email from him the other day, we were trying to meet up prior to the pandemic putting the kibosh on any sort of social outing. I've seen that Mary McCreary LP about, had no idea the Skatalites were on it. Cheers guys!

Hi Chaps. Great to see Dave join you for a session. Nice reggae picks. I think we’ve all been listening to some lovers rock after seeing the Small Axe programme. I’m gonna have to buy myself a new pair of slippers to really enjoy those Blackbeard albums 😁 I haven’t heard the new Doves record yet but played their first two albums to death back in the day. They were Sub Sub before they became Doves and their tune, Ain’t No Love, Ain’t No Use, still sounds great. Cheers. John

I think I recall hearing a story about Sub Sub having their studio burn down or something like that. I could be wrong.

If it weren’t for the band Family, the Beatles white album would probably have been called The Doll House. Family’s album called Doll House made the Beatles scrap the name. Love watching Dave. For the last two years I’ve included an album he turned me on to in my year end top albums video. Food stuff gentleman ✌🏻

Great episode, lovely speakers behind you John. I was round a friends house yesterday. His Tannoy speakers blew me away with how good they sounded.
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
Thanks - My speakers are very old Celefs - weird, weigh a ton, and sound great to me. The bass speakers are oval shaped and were evidently known as 'race track drivers' back in the day? All best wishes John

Great show , nice pre-Christmas present for me. Always enjoy hearing from you guys. I still need that cd reissue of Willem and Han's ''New Dutch Swing''. Breuker to me, is an unsung genius, been listening to his ''Bob's Gallery'' recently. Mary Halvorson's latest cd features Robert Wyatt on some vocal tracks. John, have you bought Robert and Alfie's new book yet? Mark, your description of ''Susto'' makes me want to hear it ASAP! I hope your book on Dub contains a chapter on Adrian Sherwood, he's another genius. Dave, never heard of The Doves, that one looks interesting.The Last Panthers show is also something I will check out. Years ago, I saw an encyclopedia of Arabic hand gestures at a bookstore, I went back the next day and it was gone.
@Localbandography3 жыл бұрын

Great range of records. Nice to see a harmolodic album too! Not heard that live Prime Time. I always thought Virgin Beauty & Tone Dialling sounded particularly well recorded although I only have them on cd.
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
You're of course right that Virgin Beauty and Tone Dialling sound great. I was thinking more of the original line-up sounding a bit stiff on Dancing in Your Head and Body Meta. In fact I think I might listen to Virgin Beauty right now!
@Ed-Topo-1083 жыл бұрын
@@omniversal7 Shame about Dancing In Your Head album. I partly blameJamaaladeen for playing his Rickenbacker back then! One of my favourite players but those basses should be confined to Prog Rock & Punk (in my opinion!) 🎸
@omniversal73 жыл бұрын
@@Ed-Topo-108 Yep - Rickenbackers certainly have no place at the funky end of things - except of course for P-Funk's Boogie Mosson who somehow made his work. We need some input here though from drrhythm - our host and no mean bass player ....
