Hi Dr Sam - you recommend removing all actives before starting a retinoid but didn't say for how long. In other words if I stop all actives today - I am only using Vit C in the mornings anyway - how many days later would I start a retinoid - is it days, a week? Would welcome that clarification. Many thanks 😊

If I'm planning to start using retinoid to prevent signs of aging, what should I be aiming for? How high of a concentration, can I stay with retinol or retinaldehyde or should I upgrade to tretinoin and how often would be good for anti-aging? Doctorly recommended starting with once a week, then twice and finally three times a week, but then in another video said that for anti-aging, once a week would the appropriate. I have dry to normal sensitive skin, no acne, generally not much skin issues other than flaky skin on my nose haha, just interested in aging gracefully.

From what I can see in the video you have (lovely) longer fingers than I do so how will that work? I use a measuring spoon to get the exact amount of recommended sunscreen. Can you give something specific like that? Oh, and every time people say ‘pea sized amount’ I just shake my had. Petit Pois, Marrowfat, snow peas, garden pea, etc. so many pea sizes out there. BTW, I am in no way trying to be cheeky or pedantic. I just want to do this correctly and safely. And I really appreciate all your videos on this, Azelaic Acid, and Rosacea especially.

Hi Dr. Sam, does it mean I have to set aside salicylic/azelaic routine in the morning when it will be my first time using retinol? What can you say about differin adapalene?
@abc_cba2 жыл бұрын
In addition to your points, I use Tretinoin 0.1% gel for 2 nights, Tazarotene 0.1% gel for 2 nights and Adapalene 0.3% gel for 2 nights and 1 complete day of rest (Sunday). It's been a month and I have zero issues because, I found out that lathering your Retinoid with ceramide or a barrier repair cream, then I put some oil(usually primrose oil, rice bran oil, borage oil) let it absorb into my skin and when I wake in the early morning, i slug my face with Vaseline !!!! I have zero issues, no dryness, nothing. But since I've played with strong acids and actives, Retinoids are very mild for me, don't follow my routine. I'm an Asian(Light-Skinned Indo-Aryan Indian) man, so, my skin composition is much different than the white or black skin !! Be wise.

This was the most helpful video I’ve watched on what to do and not to do when starting off with tretinoin and I’ve been obsessively watching skincare videos for 3 years now so that’s saying a lot! I can’t thank you enough. I can totally see the error in my ways now and why I wasn’t getting results . Well if I do everything you say and I still don’t get the results I want I’m throwing in the towel and giving up because the universe is telling me that retin a just isn’t for me. I’ve been on this journey for too long to not see results that others rave about. I get better results not using it and slapping on a rich moisturizer. But I’m gonna give it 1 more try with your recommendations and hopefully I’ll see a difference if not I’m done.

Hello Dr why tretinoid caused skin darkening ?
@ceamean2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I should leave my question here but I have extremely oily combination sensitive skin. I don't wnat to wear foundation everyday, but as soon as my skin produces oil its colour changes and I look kind of yellow brownish and tired on top of oily. I only wash my face twice a day with a gentle low pH natural cleanser (korean brand p:rem) after which it looks and feels fresh and my natural skin colour shows for just an hour before it turns yellow and red and even brownish in dryer areas even though I do moisturize (actipur anti imperfection cream). I want to look fresh and healthy without having to wash my face multiple times a day. I understand colour change is due to oxidization of the oil. How can I stop this oxidization preferably naturally without putting primers and foundations and powder on my face which aggravates my acne? Should I change my diet or use something topically?

How to use hyaluronic acid with retinol

Hi, Dr Sam. Question - the consistency of my retinol is a cream and my moisturizer is a gel. If I follow the right routine retinol first then moisturizer BUT I consider and follow the consistency application thinnest first so it would be gel then the thickest which is cream. So what should I really follow? What should I put on 1st the retinol CREAM or the moisturizer GEL? Please advise. 🤷🤔
@heidikamrath1951 Жыл бұрын
Since Dr. Sam didn’t answer and no one else seems to have, either…my suggestion is the gel moisturizer first, let it soak in. Then apply the retinol cream. Beyond this, you could “sandwich” (after letting the retinoid soak in) with a heavier moisturizing cream if you have one.
