Love this advise. I have similar skin concerns as you mentioned. I tend to stick mineral sunscreen because of my sensitive skin. A sunscreen I have been using lately is supergoop’ s Matte Screen. What I love is the texture of this formula. It is really soft when you apply it and it never irritates my skin. The colors blends in fairly close to my skin tone.

I adore the Australian Gold sunscreen as it is perfect primer for my combination skin. I am very fair but this sunscreen used as a primer for any of my make-up does not change the color of my complexion at all. I purchased once the Sisley tinted sunscreen paying 8 times what the Australian Gold BB cream costs. To my surprise the low price BB cream from Australian Gold was better than Sisley’s one.

La Roche Posay tinted mineral liquid (but only uses titanium dioxide), CeraVe tinted spf 30, and I love Physicians Formula cc or bb cream (tinted spf 30). Quick update: I ended up getting the Australian Gold Botanical fair to light (I have very pale skin) and for the most part I really do like it as an affordable option. It feels really nice and mouse like, and I was even able to get my boyfriend to wear it daily too! But I will say that it does look still a little too dark and orange on my skin, especially if I need to reapply. It's not too bad though and I really like the matte look, it helps cover up my acne just a tad so it's not as noticeable. I'm considering trying out one of the other ones recommended here but not sure which yet.

The fact that I'm 46 years old, have suffered from hyperpigmentation my whole life, and am just finding out about the need for Iron Oxide in my sunscreen for the first time this week makes me want to apologize to my teenage self for all of the lingering spots that could have been avoided. lol Thanks to you and Dr. Alexis Stephens for enlightening me via KZbin. I had always heard that tinted mineral sunscreens were better for POC, but never received and explanation as to why until I found you both. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Also, I'm a HUGE fan of the EltaMD UV Clear and just received the Colorscience sunscreen the other day and can't wait to try it. I also use the Biossance sunscreen and mix in a bit of the Bare Minerals for Color Corrector (for the iron oxide) and that has been great as well. All of the "deeper toned" ;-) people should try it.

Question here! I don’t wear foundation so I just apply sunscreen several times a day. I want to know , if I wear a tinted sunscreen and reapply several times a day am I just going to get darker each time? I’ve been using the Biossance mineral sunscreen for over a year and it does leave a white cast but I just put up with it. I have the same skin type as you (may also have rosacea) and fairly similar skin tone if this helps. I stick to the Biossance because I love that it gives me a glow and never dries down matte. Sometimes my face gets so dry that patches get flaky and itchy which is why it’s hard for me to find a good mineral sunscreen.

I'd love if you reviewed Naked Sundays, their range. The glow screen 50+ and the serum 50+ and the mist 50+ they are Australian made, I've just ordered them but never tried. But thousands of 5 star reviews. Would love to hear your opinion ❤

i found your video trying to find reviews on the tinted elta md sunscreen. i love the non-tinted one but it does pill on my skin if i'm not gentle with application and dont give it enough time for my moisturizer to absorb in first. so glad to hear the tinted pills less for you, so i'm going to try it! thank you

I have used most of these mentioned here and always end up going back to the Australian Gold Tinted. I have combo skin and the "fair to light" is the only one I feel really protects my skin under the HOT & HUMID Florida sun (Miami). The others tend to leave a greasy feel to my skin, and I have to reapply more often, and as you mentioned the AG does not transfer, which is awesome.

Loved this segment! Challenged to find a tinted sunscreen with my Fitzpatrick II skin that post-Covid is now looking even lighter in tone. I jumped the gun when I listened to this segment earlier and ordered the NEOVA Silc Sheer. The color is closest to what I can wear yet that little bit of Octinoxate chemical filter really upset-irritated my sensitive skin. If it did not have the chemicals in it- UGH! I would agree it would be wonderful.

I love all your videos! I'm also a new mom and would love to hear your recommendations on sun protection (specifically products) for babies. I think the South African sun is likely as harsh as California.

Thanks Dr Ellis for including clips of application so we can see the end result for each sunscreen. Ironically the Australian Gold is not available in Australia!!! It's made in Florida and not distributed to Australia so that one is out for me!

La Roche Posay’s mineral tinted sunscreen is also amazing ! I have acne-prone skin/ oily skin and use it everyday, it really evens my skin tone and diminishes any redness I have. Highly recommend!

I'm sadly returning La Roche Posay's tinted sunscreen today (even though i've been buying it forever:( It layers on perfectly, matches my skin tone and doesn't break me out. Unfortunately I just found out that unlike its original (not the tinted mineral version), it relies only on Titanium Dioxide, so there's no Zinc Oxide to provide the Broadband spectrum protection (so you're left unprotected from the UVA rays). I'm so disappointed that it's something I missed - Dr. Dray has a video about it! Especially for the price point - it is 1.7 oz compared to the other mineral tinted sunscreens that not only properly protect you but have antioxidants and include great active ingredients such as niacinamide.

I love that product as well ! I’m mixed race and it does leave a tent, but it does not bother me. I love it. Personally, a white cast never bothers me because I know the benefits of mineral sunscreens. I love them. As long as I apply my colored SPF cc cream on top everything is good.

I swear by Elta MD clear sunscreen both the tinted and non tinted one. I have oily acne prone Asian skin. It doesn’t clog my pores and even noticed improvement in my skin texture and acne scars. I only use this in the am and Cerave night moisturizer at night other than cleanser and my acne cleared up. Definitely worth the price.

Hi Dr. Ellis, I also like the EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum (SPF 46), but it is a hybrid sunscreen. There is research showing that chemical sunscreens can stay in the bloodstream for 30 days. Should I be concerned? Should I switch to a physical sunscreen? Thanks!

I rotate through those in no particular order: avène tinted mineral sunscreen, laroche posay tinted sunscreen, vichy tinted fluid sunscreen, ombrelle tinted fluid. All of them are spf 50 or more and vary in coverage/consistency. I just use whichever one I feel like in the morning but love all of them
