I love to see a dermatologist who does a lengthier skincare routine as some derms will be like oh you just need sunscreen and yours done but I like to use all the toners, essence, and serums before my sunscreen

Or K-Beauty. Much better quality and often drugstore prices. I know this is an older post, but maybe I'm not alone in watching this later. Or you check your message notifications ;). Whatever the case, I'd love to give you my affordable options. I've not used drugstore skincare - as in moisturisers or toners - over 30 years as my skin is too difficult. Everything the specialists subscribed or suggested I buy either didn't work properly or was too expensive for me...or both. So I 'went abroad'. The majority of my shower products still comes from Greece (Korres), but my actual skincare regime is a mix between Korean & British. Paula's Choice is amazing, yes. But way too expensive. So serum wise - after I just couldn't keep up with buying my serums from PC or another expensive brand from Switzerland - I've experimented over the years. I tried Revolution beauty, Inkey List, The Ordinary, Essence and Skincyclopedia. Some were great, some were less great (usually due to how the actives were mixed with an oil and I got Pilling). I've recently decided to try to use Korean brands for my most important serums as I have a new skincare & makeup haul coming up from Yesstyle and Stylevana anyway. It's impossible to get tretinoin here in my country. Only otc retinoids/retinol below 1%. They rarely subscribe it for severe acne cases even, so if you want it for moderate cystic acne & anti ageing: forget it. So, I'm dependent on OTC stuff. I was able to buy a higher % from a French pharmacy but unfortunately they used a paraffin type as a base 'cream' and I have night sweats - this doesn't combine. And to have that shiny vaseline face during the day is also awful 😖. So, I'm back to affordable OTC brands. MY CURRENT (AND FORMER) ROUTINE + SWITCH: Vitamin C 20%: currently by Skincyclopedia. Great stuff, just as good as the VitC booster by Paula's Choice actually. Worked wonders for my cystic acne as it's anti-inflammatory and those painful red gigantic pimples had decreased by at least 50% overnight. As my drugstore around the corner finally sells it I'll probably keep using this in the future, but I bought COSRX Vit C23% already for when this bottle is done, so we'll see which one I like best. Btw: I highly dislike the Revolution beauty Vitamin C and am not a fan of the The Ordinary Ascorbyl solution either (though many are). Lactic Acid 5%: by The Ordinary. Good stuff, but want to up my % a bit, so I'm either getting TO 10% or switching to Cos de Baha 12.5%, which is Korean. Lactic Acid basically does what all the other acids does (fight against sebum, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, dead skin etc), but it's more suitable for sensitive/ dry skin. It will have a milder effect and when my milia or other nonsense are terrible again I need harsher stuff. But I can use this daily, even twice daily, unlike other acids. Glycolic Acid 10%: by Revolution beauty. It's okay. I used to have Louis Widmer AHA cream which seemed to do more in even the 5% version, but it's become too expensive. I'll finish this Revolution Glycolic Acid and will go back to a general AHA solution. Either the COSRX 7% Toner - which is extremely popular, especially with acne prone consumers who use it in conjunction with their ABH one - or the IsnTree 8% Essence. Probably the latter as it's better for dry skin. Retinol: Currently in use the Vitamin A- mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream mini testversion by Wishtrend + Revolution Retinol Super Intense 1% serum. Sigh... as you could read earlier this is an ongoing search. So far the only retinol that was okay was the booster from Paula's Choice icw the Skin Recovery Antioxidant Serum (fantastic for very dry skin) but...€$€$€$€. I've tried The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid in Squalane: not for me. Also didn't see any results after 6mths. This Revolution serum is stronger, but has the same issue: way too oily. Inkey List one didn't seem to do anything, though felt better as a cream. The Wishtrend just feels like a nice light cream. Not sure bakuchiol does anything for my 47yo face. I might try the newest The Ordinary Retinol 1%, although it's once again in Squalane. Other contenders: Cerave Retinol Serum (though seems very acne targeted), Skincyclopedia Retinol 1% (ugh Squalane), IsnTree Hyper Retinol Ex 1.0 % or SOME BY MI retinol Intense. Niacinamide 10%: currently the one by The Ordinary with zinc. I prefer without zinc, so got the RNW Der. Concentrate. That one is a tad pricey (then again, as it's 30ml it's actually cheaper per ml), so I might get the Skincyclopedia afterwards. Eyecream: Embryolisse eye contour care for eye cream. It's okay, am not blown away. Heard great things about Beauty of Joseon Revive eyecream or the COSRX snail peptide eyecream. Essence: Have been using the Pyungkang Yul blue line Essence Toner for years. It's predominantly hydrating. So, I've recently also gotten the COSRX Propolis Synergy Essence (healing, antibacterial, brightening) and the COSRX Advanced Snail Mucin power Essence (had snail mucin products before and they leave your skin so soft and plump!), as well as the TirTir Milk Toner. I'll wait and see which one my skin likes best and that one I'll buy again in a year 😂. Sunscreen: My sunscreen is currently from Beauty of Joseon. Not the tube, but the pump - as that's a SPF50 that's also a moisturiser and in summer I hate multiple layers. But I also have a Purito one and some other K-Beauty brands like IsnTree to test out over the coming months. I always used the Red Grape SPF50 from Korres (Greek), but it has become difficult to order. Hence on an experimental journey. The Beauty of Joseon was great btw. Very hydrating, no white cast, easy to smear and I didn't burn for a second, zero redness anywhere. Moisturiser day & night: Normally my moisturiser is from the blue line of Pyungkang Yul, the Nutrition Cream (day) or the Intense Repair Cream (night), which I now use together with their Essence Toner and the middle step is the Ceramidin Cream Mist by Dr. Jart+. My skin is extremely dry, very reactive and eczema prone, so I use an extra hydrating or (summer:) calming Face mist throughout the day too. While I'm satisfied about the moisturiser and repair part of the creams, even though I still miss my discontinued Korres creams, I want a bit more anti ageing in my day and night cream, so I'm currently looking into alternatives that are very good for extremely dry skin, are absorbed well, but also attack wrinkles. F.e. Elizavetta Aqua HyaluronicAcid Water Drop Cream, APLB - EFG Collagen Mousture Cream, Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream, Zeesea Palace Identity Toning Cream (doubles as foundation), Mizon Collagen Power Lifting Cream and the Skin House Wrinkle Supreme Emulsion have all caught my eye on Yesstyle, but I'll research a little further before buying. Like checking Stylevana and Koreanskincare dot eu as well for options and check reviews and ingredients. And if I can have multiple items from the same brand I usually prefer that. Btw if any of you has oily skin/acne/rosaecea then the calming green line of Pyungkang Yul is a great option as well. What I love about PY is that it is a no nonsense brand that doesn't use fragrance or scents nor any other potentially harmful stuff/allergens. They have a few different lines that are all great and often very popular. I've not used it for years just because 😉. COSRX toners and Essences are often very popular with oily skinned people as well. ANYWAY.. I hope my current and future regime might be useful to you guys. Will give you ideas and options you didn't have before. The most expensive products on this list are around 20 bucks where I buy (Yesstyle), but if you then realise that K-Beauty serums predominantly have 30ml instead of the 10ml you get with The Ordinary f.e. and toners even come in 150ml or 200ml sizes for a tiny bit more (of course exceptions always exist, but this is generally speaking) then they're almost always equal or even much lower in price than their popular drugstore and affordable indie counterparts that are 10ml and max 100ml respectively. Good luck!! I hope you've found your perfect regime already, or soon will have one - perhaps with my suggestions!

You are a gem for sharing your extensive experience and knowledge of skincare. I'm so thankful for your extremely helpful videos and rare authenticity. On a side note, my skin despises glycerin. Most products have it as a main ingredient. (Even the expensive skincare has it even though it's a cheap ingredient)Glycerin causes my skin to be sticky, look dehydrated, and wrinkly. After I first apply a product with glycerin, it looks dewy and hydrated. Unfortunately, a few hours later, my skin looks 10 years older 👎 I avoid it at all costs. If it's far down on the ingredients then it's ok

You are such a beautiful person and I love your soothing voice! Thank you for wanting to help people with their skin, I have learnt so much from you 😍 One thing I was pleasently surprised by was the fact that you used ascorbic acid and peptides together in the same rutine! I have read that you should not do that because the ascorbic acid will break down the bonds. Can you explain how these two work together? I have been afraid of using them at the same time, and I didn't want to use a vitamin C alternative so this is good news for me!

I know you state to wait 15-20 minutes after applying sunscreen to apply makeup but don’t you still have to worry about the liquid or cream breaking down the sunscreen like you do with applying moisturizer after sunscreen?

There’s no perfect answer here because it’s going to vary quite a bit based on which SPF and which type of makeup is being used, as well the application technique (brush, sponge, fingertips, etc.). But yes, you do need to be mindful of this and makeup likely does disturb our spf to some degree (which is another reason why we shouldn’t solely rely upon sunscreen for our UV protection).

I go to the gym about an hour after I've applied everything and then get sweaty and have to wash it all off, but the problem is that I don't have the time afterwards to do it all again, and it feels like such a waste of product to wash it off so quickly afterwards.

Good morning.. Thank you so much for sharing..🤗 I am 61 years old and of course a sunbather when I was younger. I just started a few years ago watching KZbin videos in what to use for the face. Sometimes I feel like I just do a huge overkill.. Any thoughts? A.M. serums I use: timeless skin care 20% vitamin C ferulic acid vitamin E, The ordinary lactic acid 5%, B5 hydration serum, and coenzyme Q 10. P.M. serums I use: The ordinary buffet copper peptide 1%, Needle-less, Matrixyl Synthe’ 6, timeless hyaluronic acid and then my prescription Tretinoin cream. I do put moisturizer on and sunscreen as well and have some devices that I use. No irritation on my skin, but it all does add up money and timewise.. Value your opinion and thank you for spreading a little sunshine our way.

I’ve found that I can’t use L Ascorbic Acid or any chemical exfoliants with Retin-a. They’re both too strong for me and I see the most results with the Retin-a so that’s what I’m sticking with. I use a hydrating antioxidant or peptide serum in the AM under my sunscreen and only use moisturizer over my Retin-a and dark spot targeting leave on at night. I’ve been very happy with Agency and that’s where I get my Retin-a and dark spot formula.

One of your videos says that sunscreen comes after everything else - last layer before you walk out the door and reapply every two hours. I do that too! I apply my vitamin c that’s l-ascorbic and probably wait 20 min and then apply moisturizer and wait and then spf and wait before doing makeup. ( if I’m in a rush it’s just SPF I put on lol. But normally I do this all between breakfast and getting ready)It just kind of makes sense for everything to sink in and so nothing gets diluted you know? Also for me I use tret and a retinal on and off during the week so my skin is on the drier side… so doing that makes my makeup less patchy.

Thank you! I use a dark spot corrector and a line eliminator. When do you suggest putting that on during the morning and evening skincare routine?

for hyaluronic serums or products that contain hyaluronic acid since it best works on damp skin, do you recommend spraying the skin with water or hydrating mist first? if so how would you do that if you applied vitamin c first? would you just need to wait 10-15 for the vitamin c to absorb and then you could dampen the skin? I feel like in esthetics school and later in my career I've gotten so many mixed answers for how to layer stuff correctly and I want to make sure I give my pt's the best/right answer :)

Do we need to wait for a couple of minutes until the product fully absorbed then layer another skincare? Or just layer it?

These videos are so helpful. I’ve added so many products to my skin care routine that I’m loosing track on how to layer and which goes first. Can you create a video on your night time routine. I have growth factor serum and I only use it at night but I’m not sure about the order in which I have to apply this product. Thank you in advance.

I tried the travel-sized cleanser from Cetaphil last summer, with the light blue cap. It wasn't the foaming one, though. I loved it, and thought it was comparable to the Cerave hydrating cleanser, but without a smell. The Cerave one doesn't leave me feeling stripped but I just couldn't get past the smell of that product. I need to get my hands on the big bottle of the Cetaphil!

I have a hard time using SPF on my face, regular and even sensitive skin SPF products give me a burning sensation on my skin. The only ones aren’t painful are baby formulas in stick form- which if used daily, clogs my pores. At this point, I just don’t use SPF on my face unless I’ll be outside all day and opt for a hat and sunglasses to hide my face on regular days. Do you have any insight why only my face seems to be sensitive to SPF and alternative products?

Hi!!! I have a question, I use vitamin C in the morning and retinol at night- I love the ordinary buffet copper peptides serum and would love to be able to add it in my routine but don't know how to. As far as I know copper peptides don't work with vitamin c / retinol. Any recommendations? Thank you for your amazing videos and educating us on skin health and product. Love from Barcelona!

Good video, but I was very disappointed that you didn't bother to say what kind of vitamin C was in the azeleic acid combo. Many of us are fairly well versed in a the various types of vitamin C as well as the different versions of retinolic acid, and we would appreciate it if you would address our interest in knowing just which versions are in the products that you're talking about. Thank you.
