My 1998 K1500 still has the Bilstein rear shocks at 117000 miles. And the truck has very little rust. Benefits of living in the Southwest.

Nice video! Please I need Help. I am looking for the right Blistein shocks for my GMC Surburban 1995 V6.5L Diesel 4x4. On the side it says 1500 but the axle looks like the one in your video with 8 bolts in the wheels. How can I know which is the right Blistein part number? Thanks

The K1500s with the 6.5L diesel over this model year range are all going to have 2500 grade chassis components. That's why you see the 8 lug rear. I don't see Bilstein shocks listed in the GM parts catalog for 1995 Suburbans which would imply that year didn't have them from the factory (but that could just be an error in the catalog currently). In the video description I include the current Bilstein numbers and they do support the application still from their own number. If you feel you still have original shocks from GM installed, in the video I mentioned the original GM number should be stamped into the shock itself, which you can use to map to something more recent or find NOS GM ones.

@@DrShock Thanks a lot for your help! YesI have the rear diff with 14 bolts. I think is the same that you have in your video. I am thinking to buy the model Blistein 4600 24-024198 for the rear and the 24-104050 for the front. I hope I am doing well... i am new with this car :). My shocks are leaking oil

I have a 99 express 2500 rwd ND I just bought these shock b6 from rockauto but didn't come with hardware....where can I get the bolts ND nuts or can I just put regular nuts on the top ??? If the old one brake like in your video

Bilstein, or genuine GM repackaging of Bilstein, shocks should come with a hardware package. I have the GM part number for the mounting nut and bolt in the video description here, but that will be for these GMT400 style SUVs. It may not be the same part number for your Express van. The OEM nut is a prevailing torque type nut that is self-locking, so you can't use a plain nut or it will eventually come off/work loose.

Hello Dr.Shock! Been following you ever since your OBS heads replacement videos, helped me out a lot on changing my heads on my 99 Suburban K1500. Question about these shocks, my truck came with a 3 inch block lift at the leaf springs. Currently has the Monroes GasMagnum, my question is if I need to upgrade to the Bilstein 5100, or if the 4600 would work just fine? Thank you, Alvaro

Gotta go with 5100s if you've got more than 1" of lift.

The 2008 model year is outside the range of this video, but it would *not* be Bilstein for the pickup truck body style Z71s of that year originally. It's going to be one of two different black painted ACDelco premium gas charged parts which originally came on those 1500s. It depends on other RPOs the truck has, so running the VIN with the dealer will be necessary to clarify which one of the two shock numbers is appropriate for your 2008 truck.

How long can I expect bilstene shocks to last
@DrShock

Depends on the vehicle and driving style. You might ask this question directly of Bilstein but in my experience you can still find perfectly fine absorbers over twenty years old out there with low mileage vehicles.
