@@marim7784 only if you do to much fruit, you can juice veggies too.
@DrTraceyMarks5 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I agree with Mari even with veggies. It's better if you have less fruit but there's still a difference in the way your body digests food when it's liquefied versus if you have to chew it. When you blend it, you start the digestion process that normally starts in your mouth with chewing. Your salivary glands secrete enzymes that start the digestive process in your mouth. Also you drink a lot more of the vegetable than you can eat if you eat it whole and need to chew it. So when your body gets this heavy load of liquefied carbohydrates, You still get a surge of insulin to mobilize the carbs from the vegetables. Thanks for this question.
@dijondonjuan5 жыл бұрын
@@DrTraceyMarks that is true, you will take in more then you normally will. That's one of the main reasons I like jucing, you give your digestive system a break. Like here! It's already ready for you! 😂
@marim77845 жыл бұрын
@@dijondonjuan Plus you are missing out on the fiber in fruit/veggies which buffers the effect of the sugar. If you want to give your digestive system a break, try intermittent fasting. I've had incredible luck with intermittent fasting. Reduced A1C, put a chronic autoimmune skin condition in remission, huge amount of energy, clear thoughts, less worry/anxiety, an stupidly happy. I've also added meditation and orange theory (high intensity interval training). You can look into Dr. Jason Fung. He is a proponent of fasting. Also there are a ton of FB groups on IF. Hundreds of thousands of people who have lost weight, gotten off medications, improved their health at a metabolic level. It's really exciting. I've been overweight all my adult life and constantly yo-yo dieted. I have at 45 lost 40 lbs and kept it off over a year. I feel better at 45 than I felt at 25.

The ironic thing about chocolate is that it is mostly regarded as an unhealthy food. As candy bars it's basically saturated fat, sugar, processed fillers, and preservatives flavored with chocolate, but alone it is considered one of the more potent sources of antioxidants. In its raw, unmixed form it has fiber, protein, antioxidants, and vitamins, etc. You want either pure cacao, or a chocolate bar that's 70 percent or more chocolate. And you want cocoa to be the first ingredient, not sugar. Really enjoying these informative videos.

I have difficulty eating when I become depressed or extremely anxious. Is it bad for me if I skip meals when I feel anxious or depressed? Or replace meals with decaf coffee (+ milk) and a protein bar? Eating feels like a chore when I’m anxious/depressed. Some background: I have PTSD. I’m 5’2’’ and ~115lbs. Usually, I go to the gym twice a week. (Recently, I’ve been a bit depressed and have only gone once a week for a few weeks, but I’m still going which I count as a win when I barely have the energy to drag myself to and from work every day.) When I’m not depressed or anxious, I eat normally, but when I’m depressed or anxious, I don’t feel hungry and all food looks and smells gross, and I have to force myself to eat. So my main question is: Would it be okay for me to skip meals when I don’t feel like eating? Or replace meals with just a protein bar and a drink like decaf coffee with milk? Also: Why do I feel so repulsed by food (even foods I normally enjoy) when I’m anxious/depressed? It seems like most people tend to eat more under these stressors. Why do I want to eat less and have to force myself to eat the same amount I do when I’m not anxious/depressed?
@DrTraceyMarks5 жыл бұрын
Appetite can go either way with depression. Some people over eat and some people lose their appetite. From a nutritional standpoint you're better off eating a snack rather than skipping a meal entirely. Also sometimes when you skip too many meals it slows your metabolism so that when you do regain your appetite you can gain more weight. When you start eating normally. You probably won't see that though with skipping a meal here and there. That is similar to intermittent fasting which Some people really encourage.

Dr. Marks, I hope that I don't get into any trouble with you for bringing this up in the thread, but I was hoping that you could either confirm or disconfirm something for me. A couple of nights ago I was watching the TCM (Turner Classic Movies) Network. They were showing what I think would be called a documentary. At one point during the course of it I looked up just in time to glimpse a woman who (to me) looked exactly like you. I couldn't hear her though only because I didn't have the volume turned up loud enough so that I could hear her voice and so I didn't have the opportunity of comparing it against the sound of yours. Anyway, the program that I was watching was called Scandal: The Trial Of Mary Astor (from 2018). Could you please either confirm or disconfirm for me whether the lady that I glimpsed for a few seconds on the program was actually you (lest the lack of an answer to that question drive me even crazier than I already am 😁)? If it _was_ you then I would assume that you were on there in your capacity as a psychiatrist and that perhaps you were psychoanalyzing the actress Mary Astor (or perhaps others who knew her). Again, I hope that I don't get into any trouble with you for bringing this up in the thread. It's just that I feel uncomfortably self-conscious about doing so is all. - Edit: Oh, and thank you very much for another extremely informative video. Your videos are the best out there. -

OMG! Thank you for bringing this up. I friend messaged me on Monday and said "I just sa you on a documentary!" So yes that was me. I was giving commentary in my capacity as a forensic psychiatrist. I've given such commentary before on a few other shows on Investigation Discovery channel and CNN. I filmed that a few years ago and I haven't done much more since. I still testify in court though. I prefer teaching on youtube much better because the other is more entertainment-based. However, I was "proud" to see my name credited for this documentary on IMDB. You can see it here www.imdb.com/title/tt8851346/ If you scroll down to the "cast," you'll see me. Boy it's a small world for you to have seen that. And thanks for the compliments!

Oh excellent and Lil Narm. Thanks for getting the calendar. I'm glad you were able to place an order. I ran out of stock and they just got a new shipment in today. I still have to figure out the best timing for restocking. I wish you well with your trucking. I know that's hard work.

Wow! Your, you lost weight!
@DrTraceyMarks5 жыл бұрын
Yes it started in September when I put myself on the Mediterranean diet after doing the video on The Depression Diet. I've been talking with patients about it more too. It's great because it's just regular food and it's not weird things that you have to eat at weird times.

@@DrTraceyMarks will you do a video on how you feel, mentally and physically, on the Med Diet? I would be interested in your thoughts.

But getting in the sun is important! Just not to much of it!

That's true. You need a certain amount of vitamin D.

Dairy is extremely inflammatory. I’m a subscriber and respect you very much, but I strongly disagree here and wouldn’t be recommending this. Ultimately , all animal based foods increase inflammation

You lost me at sunblock. Please do some more research on this.

Would this be a good diet to help with amphetamine withdrawal?
@DrTraceyMarks5 жыл бұрын
Not specifically with the withdrawal - Like it won't change or shorten the withdrawal process. But it can improve your ability to tolerate the withdrawal symptoms
