I'm a little late here, but the reason so many games run like ass on the C.H.I.P is because they are compiled with OpenGL, where as the MALI400 GPU only supports OpenGL ES. This means that you are essentially running the games in software mode on an anemic CPU.

So the C.H.I.P is VERY different in power of the USB ports compared to the Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi just limits how much power the USB ports have so that the whole system has enough power. That is a plus, since you wouldn't want data to get corrupted while the system is running. And the C.H.I.P just shuts off when the USB port supplies too much power.

CTRL+ALT+F1 switches you to a new terminal, F2 through F7 do the same. By default your graphical session is on F7 wheres the rest are available to you. The CTRL+C thing is a universal way to send the "kill" signal to the current program. You can also use CTRL+D to send the "no more input will be provided" signal, which for some programs will end them.

ctrl+alt+f7 actually makes sense. Xorg (basically the graphical interface) is running on virtual terminal 7 (this is the default for most linux distros) so you're just switching back to it. Also you should know that ctrl+c is basically the cancel command for all command line applications Druaga, it is the same on DOS.

I thought it was odd that this couldn't play these games as the chip has an integrated GPU (and the RPI can play quake arena fine). However it seems like it is a mobile GPU intended for OpenGL ES, so these games are most likely running in crippling software rendering mode.
@MarcinKralka8 жыл бұрын
1. You could just set up ftp or samba server on a pc, upload files here and access it through wifi. Also you can use synaptic package manager as a graphical interface for installing packages (applications, games etc.). 2. You are also using DOS emulator, which is based on x86 architecture, and you're using ARM (you are emulating entirely different architecture), I wouldn't recommend to play any games this way, you can try to install sdlquake it should play a lot smoother. There are also dozens of open doom implementations you can try as well (I think you need original game data, for both quake and doom). 3. There is mini vMac version for Linux you should try this. 4. Websites are redirecting you to mobile website, because probably resolution is too low and they expect that you use mobile phone. You could use some user agent switcher or something so they redirect you to desktop version of websites. I think KZbin should work in HTML5 mode, I don't know why it forces you to use Flash though. I think the most issue for this computer is that it doesn't have any accelerated graphics, so nearly all games runs like crap.

KZbin works on Midori, but IMO using Kodi is a better option. Tested on my Raspberry Pi 2. And the websites use their mobile versions because the ARM version of Firefox (or Iceweasel) tells websites that it is the Android version. This is why I prefer using Midori :)

The main reason you can't do tht is because it is an ARM computer. Of course you can emulate x86, but you need a faster ARM CPU for that
@TheGamingOnion8 жыл бұрын
I doubt you can get an x86 emulator that can emulate a CPU that is fast enough to run Undertale, the best you can probably do is emulate the Pentium 1--3. Besides, you'd need a very high end computer to even come close to emulate the first Voodoo card let alone modern GPUS, even the slower ones. Your best bet is to get a cheap second hand computer or an atom based intel Compute stick.

You could always set up file sharing to grab files off another computer on the same network via FTP or SMB... Regarding the Key combinations: CTRL-ALT-F# is the historic Unix key combination for switching to the different TTYs that are running (separate command lines), with tty1-tty6 usually being the default, and 7 usually being reserved for x.org/X11 Window Server. CTRL-C sends SIGINT (Signal Interrupt) to whatever command is currently running (In a Terminal at least), usually causing the program/command to catch it and terminate.

CTRL+C is actually killing `top` you press Q to exit. It doesn't make much difference because `top` doesn't do anything wrong when killed, but you can use CTRL+C to kill any program running in the command line.
@jonmahashintina8 жыл бұрын
it's weird how much linux makes sense to me now compared to 3-4 years ago. X server session runs in f7 on debian by default, switch to any of the other sessions and you get the terminal, top is but one program that lets you close processes, ctrl+c is usually the default command to close a program in terminal, then switch back to the graphical session.

$9, but you're a bit limited in what you can do with it, considering that you won't get close to the 1ghz nor 512mb ram. It is an effective word processor and basic web browser though and I guess its handy for basic data collection. However, I would personally have the cabling plugging into one side of the chip, to ensure that there are no awkward cabling issues i.e. one cable going this way, the other going that. For me, that's what ruins these tiny PC's and one of the reasons why I stopped using the Raspberry Pi
