+Timur Tripp ubuntu mate 16.04 for ppc. if you want anything newer you will need to install 16.10 for ppc but that is currently on alpha.

You should upgrade to the latest version on the OS for PowerPC and see if there are newer drivers in the utility cuz the bugs may have been fixed

GNOME based distros could feel more familiar to a macOS user than a KDE based distro could, and KDE based distros could feel more familiar to a Windows user than a GNOME based distro could. but both would still feel distinctly different since they aren't Windows or macOS =P

You can't have two package managers open at the same time, which is why you couldn't install java using the terminal. You have the graphical one open.

You need to install fancontrol from the Terminal (sudo apt-get install fancontrol). Why it doesn't come by default in an Ubuntu PPC install is beyond me.

You should install an AMD/ATi card, open source radeon drivers are a lot better than open source Nvidia. Source: personal experience

Getting a SSD drive to boot my G5 was a little tricky. It required installing OS X to an internal hard drive, then cloning it to an external SSD drive installed in a USB inclosure. Also, for some strange reason my OS X Leopard install disk would not even see the SSD drive when installed internally, but OS X Tiger would...go figure. Running OS X Leopard on a 120GB SSD is a nice performance boost :)

The package manager must have crashed while installing, which is why it left in the lock file. You have to delete the lock file shown in the error and try again.

to get info on the processor in linux, you can use "cat < /proc/cpuinfo" it works in ubuntu and debian, but no idea about SuSE

Hey dude I ran into the same kind of problems linux is changing things like removed all the old support drivers for graphics cards now everything has to run linux drivers with open gl or vulken thats why your seeing games run in gl mode but others that don't will not work it's kinda messed up.

If it's too loud for you, you should try and find out which processor power manager you are using, if it's using performance it can get very loud, I set mine to conservative so it's whisper silent.

If you ever want information about your computer on linux you could type in: 'sudo lshw'. But the best program for it is called INXI. Install it by typing 'sudo apt-get install inxi'. Then don't just run inxi, but run 'inxi -Fx' instead.
