Hi Chug, I just wanted to say thanks for this detailed, informative and high quality presentation of calcium channel blockers. I work in Cardiology and have been wanting to better familiarize myself with common medications' mech of action instead of just knowing "this medication reduces blood pressure". Learning the "how" of something always helps information stick for me. I hope you are planning to continue making videos. This is the first one I've watched on your channel, but it won't be the last. Stay safe! Mahalo

To start I’m not a doctor. But I play one on occasion. JK. I had three years of college on a science degree but I could not afford to continue so I had to drop out. That said I have a bunch of medical issues, a spinal cord injury causing L1 paraplegia, hypertension, morbid obesity, lymphedema, and chronic back pain. Because of my hypertension I take four medicines, lisinopril, amlodipine, bisoprolol, and nifedipine. Since I’ve been prescribed so many medicines to control my blood pressure I felt it important to research what these drugs do. Thank God for KZbin and Your channel which has provided me with a lot of information to help me understand. I want to say thank you for that, and commend you for your style of presentation. Thank you again.

So what happens to the calcium that is blocked? For instance if the kidneys or other organs are sending a signal to raise BP, and someone is taking Amlodipine, what does the body do? Are the side effects permanent?
@shartne Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation I am taking nfiedipine and it works a lot better for me I feel fine now. The Beta blocker made me feel next to death. Yuk. I got vertigo with the Beta blocker Metaprlol and vomited all day and night. I thought I would die. Got a new doctor he prescribe me Nifedipine it works well for me. I feel great! I dont fall down now. I am really liking the Nifedipine. New doctor is an Ace. He is an expert in all felds wow. My health care provider suggested him Im very happy with this guy. He is not a rookie like my old doctor. Only thing is this drug might cause me weight gain but my BP is under control now. It was crazy high. I also took some prednesone I had from a while back its helping me feel better too. I dont understand that part about blood viens leaking into your feet I get that too. The preds are probbly stoping that now. I started riding my elipticle as much as I can to combat the weight gain and dibeties. Hope this all turns out well. So far I feel great. 100 percent difference. my leg even stopped hurting me.

Great question! When your blood vessels dilate, a drop is blood pressure will result. Because the blood vessels are relaxed, the flow of blood is lessened to the brain (because of gravity) This is normal, and we see it in alot of patients. Hope this helps!
