This sounds like a lot of fun! I may try this out, I doubt anyone can “beat” someone’s mix, but at the very least, one could probably make it different and cool in another way. I may give this a shot! Thanks for posting this!

Very cool thank you. I’d love to see a video of how you would tackle tracking and mixing it as a bedroom producer like most of us would be. Basic interface into daw and amp sims, basic plugins and headphones. Would really help us see what’s possible on our limited budgets.

Thanks for sharing the tracks! Would be great to know what .dig, .key and .log means. For if we want to ditch unnecessary tracks and/or get the raw unprocessed tracks only. Cheers.
@TronkyWonk3 ай бұрын
Someone correct me if I’m wrong here but I think its: .dig - The recordings into the daw straight from preamps. .log - The .dig clips but processed thru tape and outboard gear. .key - Those are the digital versions of the kick and snare tracks and they are sent to busses the key the gating on the final kick and snare tracks in the mix (from another reply Eric made on a comment)

Ooh awesome. Great idea! One question ... with vocals, when do you run them through the tape machine? Before compression / after compression?
@mrwev3 ай бұрын
I always compress vocal before going through a tape machine. The dynamic range of analog tape really cant keep up with vocals. The vocals would get WAY too noisy. Good question!!
@simon_dupp3 ай бұрын
Awesome! Does this mean we can only mix in the box? Personally I mix hybrid too with my mixbus processing being mostly OTB and the rest of the mix ITB.

Sorry Eric but it seems that in the Raw files we don't have all the Analog Guitar tracks. Could you check it?
@mrwev3 ай бұрын
I checked this and I think they are all there. I did have to redo the files because the .dig version of the drums were not edited the same. There is a new version of the raw files you can download here - www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/in6zltfe6fu12mkf89l60/Drum-Booth-Song-RAW-files2.zip?rlkey=vii5g29csui0icraqzwllgyse&dl=1

Why Match or Beat? I just..wanna mix. hehe. Would be nice to have a third option. I guess I'm gonna have to select "beat" since I def can't match. But my intention isn't to beat either ahahaha.
@simonhartley2283 ай бұрын
This is sick, thank you! You mention 'edited tracks' in this video but I was wondering to what extent the tracks are edited? I know you mentioned in a previous video that this wasn't tracked to a click so obviously it can't be gridded... so yeah just wondering what your approach is to editing on this song and other projects.
@mrwev3 ай бұрын
The drums were edited quite a lot and I forced them onto a grid in the editing process. You'll see it in the session. The ".dig" have a bunch of edits in them. Some to fix the arrangement and a lot to fix my somewhat shitty playing haha!
@simonhartley2283 ай бұрын
@@mrwev Great to know, thanks for the reply! Very interesting to me that you tightened up the drums but left the bass loose. Totally unnoticeable until you solo it up!
