Nice. I use the Dynamic Split and Media Explorer to replace and this is another great way of doing replacement

Just saw you using Slate's Trigger in your Mixing In Reaper course, but can't justify buying it right now - so I Googled "drum replacement Reaper" for other options and guess whose videos were the first two hits XD

Hi, when I use js triger, how can I open transient settings so I can visually move the thresholds on the track? I can t seem to remember how it is done. It was extremley helpful to see this visually instead of adjusting the thresholds with sliders with trial and error. Thanks!

A great way of editing toms is by cutting the end of the hit where are the cymbals and put a low pass, this way you prevent that cymbal spill.

did you learn that one from me? :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIHPeYd9pc2HitE

Glen Flicker disapproves lmao xD seriously though, great tutorial again, good to know Reaper can do this kind of thing without 3rd party plugins, thx for the vid Jon! :)

Glenn gates drums like crazy, making them sound more unnatural and worse than drums blended or replaced with samples.
@The_Absurdistt4 жыл бұрын
Glenn is an interesting character... When he's not as knowledgable as he likes to believe, or thinks someone is wrong he will sometimes lash out at them. Then when he finds out he's wrong he will often ignore the conversation all together.

01:08 the replaced version sounds very fake though, like a series of one shots... In this case, i think multiband gating might have taken care of most of the cymbal bleed in the tom tracks.

If I had the unedited drums I'd probably approach it differently.

Thanks for the great videos. Can you please do one on Area Selection even though it's not totally baked yet. Also what is your handle in the Reaper forum ? Super job !
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely be covering that in 6.15 or whenever it's ready. I've seen that its changing a lot in the per-releases so I haven't touched it yet. Seems really awesome though I'm EpicSounds on the forum

@@TheREAPERBlog Thanks. Seeing 6.13 dev 0808 add area selection to left drag of media items and empty space it's really needed to get some clarity on usable workflows. Right now I use media item bottom to marquee select and media item top (media item) to move. I'm not sure what area selection buys me and how best to include it. I'd be happy to see a pre video and another one once it matures. You have a great way of getting to the meat of things. Thanks.....coachz

Did you set Reaper to default to this color for all the tracks? And if so, how? Is it something that needs thr SWS extensions?
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
SWS Autocolor. I have rules set to color tracks by name, and child tracks to use parent colors.

I usually go to adding samples instead of replacing, and when I use this method, I always get inconsistency in timing, sometimes the sample will be ahead or behind the original sound, creating some weird artifacts..

I’m new to using Reaper. Can I add my drum tracks using only Reaper? I do not own drums or a keyboard.
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
You could program them in MIDI with a mouse. You just need something for the sounds.
@Bicyclekelly4 жыл бұрын
Ahh ok mouse got ya. When you say something for the sound, you mean like speakers?
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
i mean a sampler with drum sounds

Oh ok, so I have to own something for producing the sound. I see. Thank you.

Someone has an idea how to do this, it happened to me that once I succeeded, and I saw in a video, for example to make a copy of the track of a kick that sounds bad, and in the other replace it with the ReaSamOmatic5000, but the question is that he managed to make the blows dynamic as is the original. I forgot how to do it and I can't find the video I saw that time that explained it: c
