It's weird how I already know this, but hearing it explained so well is still eye opening.

This made so mush sense. I’ve been really struggling with musical ideas. Returning to the simple with just the pad is an amazing idea. Thanks Rob!

Very well said. To me, music is like cooking. There is a reason why things go in certain places. Notes are like ingredients in a dish. If you watched your grandmother cook a dish that you love, you'd see a process involved to get the final product. This ingredient has this purpose, while other ingredients have another purpose to create something. As the years go by, you learn more about it, and you can add different things and expand on what you already know. Cheers, Rob! ✌️🥁

The simplicity of this explanation with the education has been a lightbulb moment for me . The added effortless solo along the way makes it more engaging. (I am just getting back into it and this info is priceless to me ). Thanks

"Make music on the pad." Love it. I frequently try to do a bar or two of random noodling in the middle of practicing some pattern or rudiment at the same time and tempo then go back into it. More fun that way too.

Rob, this is just an awesome, teaching, video/lesson. You are so right about soloing and where it comes from. Hence, the need to know some basic rudiments so you can express what’s in your head and heart. The more you can do with your hands, the more expressive and creative you can be. The less you have to worry about how it comes out. Every drummer needs to know this. And if you don’t have a lot of chops, you can still produce a creative solo, just using what you know how to do. Just keep it musical.

Loved the live cast yesterday tried to join the conversation but no super chat not even a comment would go through but awesome anyway and the way u broke down the language of percussion into something a 6 year old kid can understand that's why u are the best also u totally deserve to get the cover of M.D. thanks for all u do for us it's a good thing I'm not your neighbor u couldn't get rid of me and our neighbors would hate us.

most often my solos have too many notes..always circle back to listen to Rob to Musically incorporate space which Rob's a master at. Can't just pause it needs to make sense musically

Great advice - thanks for this, Rob. One thing that I am constantly working on is not getting lost when soloing over the form, especially if I am pulling phrases that are odd or not exactly 4 or 8 bars long. Unending journey!

Hey beat down check this out.... I've been drumming 35 years and seen way Too many videos to even try to count. I just wanted to say that your videos are different in some way that I can't explain.... Maybe it's the fact that I can relate to your vocabulary and examples and explanations... Maybe it's how you explain things in such easy to understand detail.... Everything you say for some strange reason just makes sense to me... This is just one opinion of millions. But your videos for me seem to make more sense than what would be considered normal... With access to the internet. I know hundreds and hundreds of drummer's. But if I could meet only one in person it would be you no question... I really enjoy everything you say because it makes so much sense to me. I would love to have you as a personal teacher.... Thank you for all the content you have put out. Thank you for being simple and easy to understand in your explanations.... Amazing quality and precise explanation in everything you say.... I would say you're my favorite on the entire internet.... Thanks for everything you do....

You've taught me a lot in just a couple short years. I just realized I don't think I've ever thanked you. I've been playing guitar, bass, piano, and singing, for 30 years. But I only got a drum kit about 2 1/2 years ago. Between you and Terry Keating of the channel "Bonzoleum," I've managed to learn to keep a beat . . . somewhat LOL And my channel went from me singing with a guitar and microphone into a phone mic, to a fully professional one-man recording studio with good production quality and everything. Today I made a 2-minute promo video to put on my channel home page which automatically plays. It's just short clips of the songs I've done in the last year since my production quality improved enough not to be embarrassing. As a result of your (and Terry's) teachings, my channel has gone from just under a hundred subscribers to currently more than 320. Maybe it would be gratifying to check and see what has come to fruition from your teaching? Whether you do go and check or not, I thank you sir. I thank you very much. Keep up the good work!

Another great video, as always. You have a really low-key way of teaching I love. Always clear and to the point, you motivate me to start applying the things I just watched in your videos immediately. I learn something new every time I watch one and it's fantastic. Just wanted to say thanks now I'm off to your merch store for my first purchase.

Rob man, ya dropping nuggets of gold.. Maaaan, I'll mention it in the next hang, I'd like to get your thoughts. One of the year of the hands lessons. You were just tapping during the intro and I noticed something. I had headphones on with some binaural tones going. I had been playing them under a cloud infrastructure tutorial (They Work). Had an ahha moment that blew my own mind, ties into this exact topic. Looking forward to the 25th..

Music comes from your heart and soul which leads to your hands. Jmo. And I been drumming since I was 7 years old. Now I am 59. Everyone is different I suppose But if you don’t feel it. You ain’t playin it. Ps. I’m a female. I guess I see it differently 😉 You are awesome by the way

Yes, well said.. unless you're a pro, probably should be more concerned with having a deep pocket than soloing anyway. As for soloing, I am blown away how one simple rudiment, with different accents, applied all over the kit can never run out of cool licks.

@remus blaque.. Mr. Beatdown has had a couple of real good lessons about time and tempo. Do YT searches for "Rob Brown time", "Rob Brown tempo" .. etc .. One of his pieces of advice that I particularly took to heart is to remember to breathe.

Strange thing; I bought two sets of Promark sticks (I always buy two set at a time) and I had two stick break in the same number of weeks. The sticks were only a couple weeks old and had only a couple hours of play time on them. Not sure what to make of that.
