Just in case people missed it, She walks to the front of the stage after, stretches out her right arm that is holding her sticks and then drops her sticks. *BOOM, drops the mic. The stick dropping heard throughout the world. As soon as she sat down at her kit, she knew where she was at. She knew what she was doing. She knew she was going to leave us with a memory. We all forgot she is 11. She showed us that not only she belongs, but she can lead.

Yeah you know what's almost scary to me about this kid. She's that great and that confident at 11 years old, and it doesn't even look like it's hard for her! We've all seen child prodigy musicians over the years and they're all great, but this kid it's something else.
@Alsacecypr
@Alsacecypr 2 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean! I wonder if the difference might not be he parents? With most prodigies, you can feel the parents pushing them, using their kid's achievements to feel better about themselves. But in Nandi's case, the energy for the music is coming from her, and the parents do what they can to support her. For them, it seems to be about family (perhaps they had to go through a lot just to be a couple?). It's the same with the little brother. Thomas is already almost as good an actor as Nandi is a musician. They seem to be receiving a miracle of parenting. With love and no pressure, they can fulfill their talents and feel joy when they do well at their passions.

I also like how it was her that pretty much ended the show with the final crash of the cymbals. She didn't go on too long, or just stop when the song initially ended, but she had the awareness to "feel" the right place to end the song and the gig, like she'd been doing it for 20 years..

I almost cried with happiness the first time I watched this performance. Now... it's an absolute rollercoaster of mixed emotions. Especially with Taylor's son also present. She is brilliant and has a bright future ahead of her, but how can anyone else in this video ever be the same? I was having an insanely awesome and memorable day with my 7yo son on Friday, and then we got the news shortly after coming home. I can't imagine his world if he lost me right now, and I have two younger sons as well. Foos as a band aside, I just feel absolutely devastated for the pain and loss that everyone in this video is going through. I won't even speculate about the future of the Foos, but it's probably going to be very rough for a while. Ugh... just so awful... 😢

When you watch it from this rear view kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXK5nHqgaZaFq6M a non-drummer like me can see that the kick-drum pattern alone would take some mastering. Add to that the 1/16 notes hi-hat work, the energy of the performance, the self-confidence in front of an audience of thousands and a professional band, the physical work she had to put in considering her size ... and she did all that at 11 years old. It's like the rock version of Mozart has just played with the Foo Fighters!

I know what you wanted to say at the end: a year ago she wasn't that tight at drumming. I mean she knew the song but it felt like she was getting lagging just a tiny bit. Then again she was playing along with the song. This time she was in control leading the band, a year older, must've practiced a lot and she nailed it perfectly. And so confident (I would've dropped my sticks twirling 😄) Edit: and if course having a pink glitter drum kit on the stage@ Foo Fighters 😂

I'd liked Andrew's comment, "Where can she go after THAT?" and had said, "She may keep playing covers for a while. But to become Nandi, she'll need to get past copy-catting and, without doing harm to the spirit of the cover songs, find new ways to reinvent them. . . and she'll have to write songs of her own." But his question was answered by Nandi herself. See her new cover of RS's "Gimme Shelter," done for Charlie Watts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZXYYp2Ml8yFqLs

That cover is just brilliant. She laid down more tracks than years she was alive. She resisted the temptation to overplay her favorite instument, and that guitar solo she capped it off with was sublime. If the Stones ever do something like Metallica's Blacklist, that deserves a spot as is.

To start I had to watch this 2nd video cuz honestly.i now watch all things NANDI !!! Period...* Shrugs * lol. A week ago I saw the girl,at home I'm assuming. Using a loop machine playing musta been mm 5 instruments ,I think . No sunshine I believe. And it sounded like something..I scratched my head a bit when the damn saxaphone was in play. I mean seriously, it's not fair hahaha. At 11 ok, is this a new marvel hero?? She stops the bad guys with music, or something...sure, sometimes she just goofing around, the girl s 11!!! It's too bad Prince isn't still with us, could you imagine..." Sigh " I hope I'm around to see her first Grammy acceptance speech... Great work on analysis, I like ur style. Keep up the good work. ( Where do I buy a tour shirt ?? Lol)

I know I'm a bit late, lol, but great video/reaction! It's nice to see an analysis of this kid's EPIC performance by a drum teacher. Puts a very cool new perspective on it for me, as someone who loves music but hasn't been a musician since my middle school/high school band days (I played alto sax though, not drums, lol). I've always liked the Foo Fighters' music, but ever since seeing the YT videos of how they react to/with fans at live shows, I have a whole new respect for them! Especially Dave and Taylor. Top class humans. I, like many people I'm sure, was gutted when I found out about Taylor's untimely passing. So sad, but it's nice to know his legacy and talent will live on through his son, Shane, and other people, like Nandi!

Man, she REALLY played that song tight. It is not easy to keep those 16th notes on the hi-hat clean and precise at that tempo, but I honestly couldn't hear any major flaws in her playing, and she locked in with the band like a pro. I would have frozen in abject, utter terror stepping out onto that stage, whether I was her age or the age I'm at now (43). Good for her! She has a bright future in music if she chooses to pursue it.

Your final comment here is particularly spot on. I'm a guitarist, and even *I* want to play drums after watching Nandi. As good as she is, and as good as she's gotten since this, what touches me the most is the sheer joy she has. It's important to be reminded that those of us with the honor to be musicians should share the joy and wonder of it all. I adore that kid!

Killer reaction to a killer performance of Nandi. Thanks Andrew. It seems that every week we are getting treated with great music by young talented musicians. Yesterday the launch of Metallica's Blacklist. I was really astounded that the next song of Alessia & The Warning was arranged, recorded and mixed from different locations in only one week. Again The Warning proves to set the benchmark for modern rock. Enjoy Enter Sandman: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6WugpqbqKiWisU.

Question, she is very good at math and she graduate a grade higher with high distinction (GPA 3.9 or higher) so does math have any bearing on playing the drums, just wondering ?
@MetalMcfly
@MetalMcfly 2 жыл бұрын
Drummers do have to count to keep time within a beat. There are different "time signatures" of a song depending on how the song is written. There is the standard 4/4 beat, then there is 7/8, 3/4, 2/4 5/8 and so on. Counting is a huge factor for drummers and simple math plays into all of that.

Not at all! Taylor and Christ were both upset about this but Dave and Pat are in charge of this band! Taylor refuse to stay while they were rehearsing. At the start of the song, you can even see Taylor not smiling at all, until she start twirling her stick, and even then, the smile on his face was more like “who does she think she is!”. But his son, who was at the rehearsal, told him how good she is, so he gave her a chance. As soon as she starts playing, like Andrew, he really start watching. From there, until they stop playing, Taylor really starts enjoying what he was seeing and hearing! He completely changed his attitude at the end, and even took the time to let her know how great she has been! The way he puts his right hand on her shoulder tells a lot! Pat Smear was very happy to see how Taylor finally took it, and even if he never touch her, he really enjoyed the way she played, and how fearless she was. The way Pat looks at her and all her family backstage was his way to let them know how great she was! However, Chris never change his mood, and refused to congratulate her at the end of the song, right after Rami gave her a high five, Nandi quickly realized that he was not willing to do the same! But that guy wanted to be in front for the applauses, and barely put his left hand on her shoulder. I did not really know the Foo Fighters before this event, but let me tell you that I will never follow a guy like Chris Shifflet, no matter how good he is! Of course, all this is just what I think really happened, you can make your own conclusion, but mine is based on their body language, many observations from different angles and with the backstage footage that Nandi provided. I can’t say enough how great she has been that night. Even if she never play again on a big stage like that, I will always remember this event for the rest of my life! This moment was just overwhelming for me, and for millions of other people!

@@krystennawomack9724 He was not! Look at different views, and you will see that he has nothing in his hands beside a red plastic cup. Just put yourself at his place, you have been replace by an 11 years old girl for the last song of the concert, and you would take a souvenir of that event? But to his credit, he has recognized her great talent while she was playing, and he was very very kind with her at the end to show her that she was very good drummer. There's no shame to be replaced by a great drummer, no matter how old he/she is! He knows that it was the best live performance of this song since 1997!

I just stumbled on your reactions to this event - and like you I'm completely blown away by her talents. She drove the band like she's played with them for years - you'd have never known there was just one sound check and that was it. Thank you for the technical side of things for someone who loves music but doesn't have the talents to do what these musicians do all day long! Here's a version with different angle (noticed you were interested in Taylor's reactions - lots of visibility of that in this one linked - and seems a good view of her and Dave together through the song : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXXTk6pvi8SZn6M -- the A/V sync is off just a little - but the visuals are great.
