It was a walk-off home run the day Sweetwater got Nick D'Virgilio to handle their drumming products' demos. A serious drummer who explains things thoroughly in a short amount of time.

The Yamaha EAD10 is worth every single penny I payed for it. That little module opened up so many inspirational sound opportunities for me, and the ability to record and mix videos is a serious game changer. Love that little thing.

Nobody knows but un Italian drummer Stefano D'Orazio was an innovator of the drums in the eighties! I believe that Stefano D'Orazio was the first drummer in Europe and perhaps in the world to use Triggers on an acoustic drums (the trigger is an electronic sensor applied to a drum). Just listen to the song (Lettera da Berlino Est) 1983 from the Tropico del Nord album. A triggered sound comes out of his Toms. Dave Weckl who brought triggered drums to the fore came later between 1986-87.

And I'll say it since Nick didn't, but the EAD10 will pick up a fart. Use with caution!

@@sweetwater Thanks for the reply. So, would you say acoustic drum triggers are more or less accurate than the ones in an electric kit? I want pretty high levels of accuracy so I'm leaning towards roland kits, but I'm curious whether adding triggers to my acoustic would still be as accurate? Just don't want it missing ghost notes or mis triggering

As a life-long drummer, I think the best application of these triggers would be the studio, but overall these triggers/effects sound way too cheesy. Nick did mention one could add slight acoustic sounding effects to the kit, but I'd opt to just try to get the best sound with an good mic and a decent sound man. Well, to each his own.
@nightruler_4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I hate all those stupid little noises too lol, but I use the acoustic enhancing settings on mine. Makes the drums sound "thicker" I'm a death metal/black metal guy so I definitely don't need any weird little noises haha. The acoustic samples however are very helpful and very high end

Best way to use these is with EZ drummer, which also costs money, but there you can get recorded drum sounds that have been made by the top studios of the world...

Thanks Nick for your kool video and demonstration as always. I am a happy user of YAMAHA EAD10, it is super easy to use and surely joyful to play with, it can be used with programmes like YAMAHA Record'n'Share in which making drum covers super easy!!! In live setting this will be a bit more tricky, I will try to decrease the mic volume to minimal and retain the trigger functions.

Issue running into jbl 1000w speakers getting burn smell any help ??.
@sparrovski4 жыл бұрын
My issue is competing with guitar volume live especially if we dont mic the kick. I would rather play less hard and have the volume through the triggers/mics via pa. I am a fairly hard hitter. I cant always mic the kit. I feel I could gain some volume and an even better drum sound via the pa. Not that my kit sounds bad. Any suggestions. I suppose I could tell the guitarist to turn down a little. : )
@smellylemon93 Жыл бұрын
Mic’ing is still beneficial, it’s not just for extra volume. Mic’ing your drums gives them a fuller sound. You don’t get that nice low end out of your kick when you play unplugged

Quick question, I've always wanted to learn how to use triggers but I have a double bass kit with a full wrap around-Gibralter Rack system and 13 total cymbals counting my Hi-hats and X hats and I also have my main snare and a side snare. So I'd be investing alot of money to try adding triggers, so I don't want to go all out only to find out I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Do you have to have a Laptop to use triggers? Also what would be a good PA or set of speakers for a basement studio? Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated!
@sweetwater3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Jonny D. Thanks so much for your interest. Wow, that’s a huge setup! Love it! As far as the triggers go. Personally, I would start with only a few triggers just to test the waters to see if you like it. It can be quite different. You don’t necessarily need a laptop, but it is easier and you’ll get more options. You can also get a trigger module, like the Roland TM6, or any of the TD Modules (TD50x, TD27, or TD17). The problem you’ll be running into is trigger inputs with that many drums. Most people with that many drums trigger the kick and snare and leave the rest mic’d. As far as a PA goes, any speaker setup will work. I personally like the QSC stuff. You don’t need anything too big for a basement, but I would make sure to include a subwoofer. I hope this helps. Can u add more mics to the ead10?
@sweetwater5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the inquiry. You cannot add more mics, but you have the ability to add triggers to the unit. The concept is the mic on the device picks up all around the whole kit completely for the "enhancement" that it provides. Let me know if you have further questions. Love the vid..But I would love a manufacturer to produce a bass drum trigger with built in pcm sounds, Just connect to mixer with xlr to xlr where you would normally connect your standard bass drum mic, power for the trigger would be via phantom control trigger bluetooth from phone different types kick sounds etc.. This would save having to cart around kick mic and stand and kick sound would not be affected by room accoustics.. This could be done easily with todays tech. No module needed.

I have nothing against church at all. But I still think it’s sad that rock drummers play at church more than clubs. It’s a twisted history we find ourselves in. I said I have no issue with churches but I would NEVER go to a church with a drums set. Sad part is, that’s slowly becoming the only place to play.
