That was a nice easy to understand video. There are too many 20 minute plus videos on KZbin about Triggers and Gates that go into every specific detail. For you to be able to give a clear explanation in under 4 minutes is great. Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for the video. For gate side chain, are your DDrums triggers XLR out going straight into the stage box or into a DI first ? Thanks

How are you sending the MIDI info all the way to the FOH Mixer? It is being transmitted through Dante or something similar? What does that signal flow look like? Thanks :)

Hey there! do you need to mute or partly-mute the drumms for correct trigger function ? thx

I tried triggers as gates on my toms, because hard snare hits would sometimes open the tom gates. I put them on the reso heads, as shown in the video. What I found out was, that the ratio between bleed and actual drum hits was more or less exactly the same as on the ambient mic. Just like before, the snare would open the gate, or if I put the threshold higher, it wouldn't open softer tom hits. For me it didn't work. Maybe this is just useful for loud environments on stage and not in general for drums. Or there a couple of tricks to make it work better.

Do you just plug the triggers directly into the snake down the line to FOH? Or are they you generating clicks with the drum machine to send down the line?
@91jonhull7 жыл бұрын
Brian Russ they are patched right in line to FOH

Awesome video! How are the triggers that are strictly for side chain connected into the console at front of house to trigger the gates?
@91jonhull7 жыл бұрын
Adam Snyder yessir! The kick is routed to the Alesis DM5 and directly to the porter and Davies thrown thumper. Just a way to have a clean signal rumbling the thrown for articulation.
@jamesgardner21016 жыл бұрын
The triggers don't patch to the console, only to the gates sidechain input. The mic'd signal routes through the console, then through the gate and return to the console channel.

Hey Jon, since the P&S isn't playing the sound do you feel that the ddrum trigger through a DI box then into the P&D gets you the same thing? Maybe you blend the DM5 through FOH or IEM and that is why you use it. I actually took your suggestion in this video and tried a Roland trigger / DI / P&D combo and it seemed to work decent. I did have to back off the input level halfway through the set because it was starting to "light up." I wonder if my configuration is why?
@iplaywithsticks6194 Жыл бұрын
What is 'P&S'?
@dapdrums Жыл бұрын
@@iplaywithsticks6194 I fixed it to read P&D (Porter and Davies) seat/amp. It was a typo, in part because I've written P&S a few times for other reasons unrelated to drumming.

Great information! Drum triggers are patched directly to the Input of the Stage Rack / Mixing Console / Multi Core or to a Sound Card? It will be great if you could please guide us on triggering gates using Drum Triggers? How does the Side Chaining work?
@91jonhull7 жыл бұрын
humayun sd they are patched into the stage rack. The side chain works within the plugin on a channel strip. Within a compressor or a gate plugin, you can designate what you want to be the threshold to open or close the gate..it can be a db threshold, or any other input on the console. Hope that helps!

how...where and what started you to learn all this and who taught you? also how did you finally get hooked up with such a big performance tour hand gig? (if i worded that correctly)
@91jonhull7 жыл бұрын
Brock Johnson I learned a lot by playing in bands and helping set up our whole stage and audio package, recording in the studio, then I got a degree in music production and music business. So experience plus a formal degree has really helped me. I did an interview on a podcast called "behind he kit" where I talk about all of that stuff in detail. You should check that out!

How are you loading the samples from the DM5? Are you triggering it from software in a laptop or from samples loaded into the module directly?
@91jonhull7 жыл бұрын
Volentry we just use the stock samples within the module. They are simply for feel on the porter and Davies.

Just Drew buuuuuut they are mic'd up you can even see the mics in this video. a gates job is to open and close the signal to a mic, not replace the sound.

the only things that is "triggered" is the feed on his kick to his throne thumper/possibly IEM's
