Many moons ago I had a Slingerland set and I put a clear Remo Pinstripe on the batter side of the kick and an Evans gold mirrored hydraulic head on the resonant side of the kick. With a medium-thin weighted blanket for muffling, I received so many compliments for the sound and the look of the kick drum. Too bad my playing sucked back then. Thankfully I don't suck as much now...according to my mom. Happy New Year's, DCP!

I like the fact that he just beats the hell out of them. That's how I demo kits. The first time I sat down at a set of Sonorlites in 1987, the owner of the drum shop said "you know, you CAN play them like you normally would". As you might imagine, the clerks and management of certain conglomerate music stores begin dancing like Santa's happy little elves with big smiles upon their faces every time they see me come walking through the door. 😆😆😆

That was great guys. The Vistas are definitely something to consider for a lot of rock, and/or a rock-cover band ... deep tone and volume, I thought they sounded great. And,...those 602s ... WOW!!! How about the term "glassy!" 😉Guys what were the 2 crash sizes on the Zep Kit demos? I'm assuming 19 and 20? Thanks

One very important thing to remember about John Bonham, and many people do not know this or are unaware of, is how he tuned his drums. They were very big drums yet he tuned them surprisingly high. Especially his huge 26 inch bass drum. He got such a massive sound out of his drums with this tuning.

I'm a tune as low as possible guy, but that sound from the green was a bit too much, but that dancing kick drum took the show :) The 8 piece kit was the best to my ears. Keep creating great videos like this, thank you!

I used to be very doubtful of the quality of acrylic drums as well. That all changed once I bought a crystal beat kick as an impulse purchase. It ended up becoming my main for gigs because of how punchy and cutting it was. I love how despite it being dry and controlled, it has so much presence.

the dot heads sound much better than the hydro heads on this kit for sure....maybe just the head type. My kit is a 7 pc classic '71 Ludwig with a 24" kick and an 18 floor [on the big end] but they sing with pinstripes!~ and a super sensitive snare with a pin as well! no one ever does that but it works after the head is broken in!

Great video as always guys. Incredibly sensitive to head changes, wow. These would be a lot of fun to play around with in recording situations because you could cover quite a bit of sonic ground based just on head selection it seems. And I can tell you from experience that Vista lights absolutely love big rooms.

What ze Hell (yea i‘m german) is this voice in the beginning talking bout? „There is no W in german!“ that‘s absolutely wrong 😂😂😂. But i get the point you guys are Butchering the name Ludwig heavy as f*ck 😢😢😢. its not „Ladvik“ its „Luudvig“ the „u“ is longer pronounced just like in the word „you“ and the „d“ is almost silent and sofetly spoken with the rest „dvig“ „g“ like the ending of „fantastic“ Well for the sake of all Ludwigs around the world go listen to google translator :) Thanks ❤❤❤ 😂😂😂👍

I had a red VistaLite kit in the early 70s , the snare was unusable , so I carried on using the 6 1/2 Supra I already had . The 22 in kick sounded like an oil drum unless I stuffed in a pillow ( which kind of defeated the point of having a clear kit ) and close mic'd the batter head ... The 12 x 8 , 13 x 9 , 16 x 16 toms sounded OK , but when your main drums sound so horrible , it's moot how cool they look ...

I got the ludwig vistalites back in the 70's when they first came out. 24 inch bass drum was a beast to move around. No bottom heads on any of the drums. They sounded like cannons. Cost about $1000 in 1970s money for 7 pieces. So this price is not outrageous in 2023. Great stuff.

I have a 8 piece vistalite set of Ludwig from 1974. I love the sound and durability. But I've always tuned slightly high. The sound of those tuned low to me was incredible. To me it sounded perfect. To what I hear in my head. Guess what I'm fixing to do. Buy new heads and tune down. I'm glad I heard this I probably wouldn't have believed it if someone just told me.

I bought the amber sparkle kit from Drum Center and man let me tell you, the set sounds quite amazing. Same thing here, I've only played maple or oak drums and had kind of a slight bias toward acrylic shells. They are different. Hard to describe. Silvery? Hm. Maybe? They are certainly warm sounding and have a wonderful fundamental pitch. It's easy to see why they are better played wide open. They really don't possess any sort of run-away overtones. They really are great just as they are. All the silver dot heads are still on the set, I just changed the batter bass drum head to tame the bass drum just a little. I couldn't be happier with these.
