Demonsterating the sound of the drum after installing each system would be nice.

Actually, A LOT of DCI bass lines use the method where you glue the foam to the inside, but they have the foam stick out about a 1/4 inch. We used the same method as my high school, whom our teacher had worked with the cavaliers drumline for many years, and it sounded amazing. maybe it's not "your" desired sound but to say it's wrong to do this is incorrect.

I'm currently with the Manchester High School Marching Band (in Ohio) and play third bass. We've been using Evans MX-1 heads and the white pads inside the inner of the head and multiple strips of the supplied velcro and the pads still fall out after about four or five weeks. Velcro may work very well but from my experience, it's best to have most of the pad covered in velcro and have it face perpendicular with the rim.

for some reason the instructions don't note how to properly install the velcro, because there is actually a better way to reduce them coming undone. The felts have a side that is a teeeny bit more velcro than the other side. And, you are supposed to stick the sticky part of the velcro to the plastic ring, NOT the drum head itseld. In the sun, the heat melts the glue off the velcro pads, and they fall right out. By putting the velcro on the plastic part, it reduces them coming unstuck. But- they can still fal out. Which in that case, I just use more velcro. I also velcro the pads to each other. Good practice is to leave the drums out of the sun when possible.

Is this the same for pipe band bass drums

Dumb question, but should the foam be on both sides for a marching bass drum? Or only one of the sides?
@Mutch8202 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question. You only need to put it on one side

Does adhesive from the drum strip mess up the drum wood.

I've used the Air Conditioner foam for muffling about an 1/8 of an inch outside the bearing edge. About once a year I remove foam, 000 steel wool my edge and I have never had any damage to the drums. I also use clear nail polish on any nicks after I steel wool just to protect my heads. I have done this in DCI and marching band.

How do you reduce or muffle the sound of a marching snare drum?
@YouWatchJarian9 жыл бұрын
Ivan Mendoza To get a less snarey sound mess around with putting a piece or two of stick tape over the snares or cut/remove some of them. For muffling tape a folded tissue or something equivalent to the bottom head. The more tissue you add the more muffled the resonance of the bottom head will be. A lot of corps do this, look around and you might be able to listen to some drumlines using these techniques. For instance, I know the Cadets do it.

stop trying to evaluate an individual sound from 1 to 2 feet..... it's an ensemble sound at least at 30-50 feet that matters..... the difference between amateurs and pros

Sounds,like more towels are needed. I like a 2x folded toelwel over my tom to get rid of that basketball ring /twangy overtones.
